Alexis Morgan grew up near St. Louis and received a B.A. in English from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She and her husband have made the Pacific Northwest their home for more than thirty years, where she launched her career as a writer. She is published in paranormal romance, fantasy romance, American West historicals, and most recently, contemporary romances with her new Snowberry Creek series.
This Harlequin Nocturne is one of Alexis Morgan’s vampire books, and I really like that series.
Quick overview: It’s an alternate world, but it’s really similar to our world. They’re on earth, there are humans, vampires, and the hybrid known as Chancellors. Chancellors get most of the strengths of vampires but without the weaknesses (They can take blood, but don’t need it, they can walk in the sunlight, etc.). They live in New Eire, they take transports instead of cars, the vampires are “out” and in governments like the North American Coalition. So basically it’s just a slightly alternate world.
The story picks up after the last one, and it starts out strong. Conlan is head of security for Rafferty O’Day’s compound/clan. And he’s good at his job. One day he hears a commotion and finds a whole bunch of mercenaries shooting at a lady with 2 children, and since it’s really close to the O’Day compound, he takes out a couple of the mercs, and calls for backup.
He turns over the human woman who’s been shot, and instantly recognizes the woman who left him to finish out her stint in jail and rot in prison. In this world, if a cop/investigator loses his prisoner, he has to finish serving the jail sentence. So lawman Conlan goes to prison, stuck with prisoners he put there, and Kat runs free.
For the past 3 years he has thought of nothing but Kat. Seeing her brings forth all that anger. He gets her to the medic and stays with her, but once she’s healing, her first thought is of her nieces. Luckily the O’Days will protect them, but Kat’s in way over her head, and she’s afraid it will put the compound in danger. Conlan and Kat have to work together to keep safe, prove her innocence and find out what happened 3 years ago that caused her to bolt leaving Conlan picking up the pieces.
This is where I began to have problems with the story. I had a hard time liking Kat and Conlan was, well, he forgave her way too easily. It seems in a betrayal plot (one of my favorite plots, btw) that it should have been dragged out longer. And having a heroine who is such a freaking martyr at every turn (I guess to prove there was no betrayal?) was just too much. It would have been nice to have the guilt and anger last a bit longer. The plot was there, it really was, I just don't think it worked as well as it could have. Alexis Morgan's a great writer, but this just didn't do it for me.
SAVAGE REDEMPTION is the fifth storyline (September 1, 2012 release) in Alexis Morgan’s VAMPIRE series of novels. A little background information to Alexis’s vampire line-Chancellors are a hybrid combination of vampire and human with the ability to stay up during the day. Like many hybrid storylines, there is discrimination against the Chancellors for their vampire like qualities, from both humans and vampires alike.
Conlan Shea had no idea what to make of his current circumstance. Finding his one-time love Kat Karr holed up against an armed assault brought back too many memories of betrayal and time spent in jail that could have ended his life. Not knowing why Kat and her two young nieces were on the O’Day estate where he was head of security amped up Conlan’s anxiety as much as seeing the woman who had broken his heart.
Kat Karr did not want to go to Rafferty O’Day, but with Rose and Maggie depending on her she knew the only place they would be safe was with Rafferty O’Day and his mate. Kat had not planned on seeing Conlan Shea, and with that, the look of pain and betrayal in his eyes, was all too familiar. Hoping to keep one step ahead of Councilman Cyrus Eddington, Kat hoped the full vampire O’Day would help find a place for the girls when she was gone. With a death warrant on her head, Kat knew her time was limited.
Conlan had barely recovered in the last year from his experience in prison where he spent two years when his last involvement with Kat went terribly wrong. Now he was willing to risk his life once again for a woman he can no longer trust. But Conlan knew that Kat has been set up three years earlier and he wasn’t about to let her go through it all over again.
Conlan’s emotions are all over the place. Knowing Kat the way he did, he wasn’t surprised when his instincts to run kicked in, but Kat was hiding a secret-one that almost cost him his life. But when she revealed the truth behind the original charges brought against, Conlan knew he had to help prove he innocence, because now it was not only their lives in danger, but all vampires as well.
SAVAGE REDEMPTION is an amazing storyline that finally gives Conlan his long awaited story. I have read the entire VAMPIRE series by Alexis Morgan and each story gets better. I love the fact that Alexis brings in many of her characters from the previous novels allowing for a more intimate and familiar flavor to the story.

Savage Redemption was my first opportunity to read Alexis Morgan. I really enjoyed this book. I was entertained from the beginning and I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Savage Redemption was filled with interesting secondary characters, that caught my attention and left me wanting more of them, a kick-ass hero and heroine, some HOT sex scenes, a few nail-biting moments and a great epilogue to wrap everything up. I am definitely going to be looking for more from Alexis Morgan. Plus, I love this cover~very sexy!! ;) 4 out of 5 rating.

This book was good. It did start out a bit slow but really got into it about a third of the way in. This is a good story about betrayal. Kat Karr is what today you would call a whistle blower and nobody would believe her when she went to the higher ups in the company in which she was working. Her lawyer Conlan got her out of jail as long as he was responsible and she takes off on him and he has to serve out her sentence in jail. A lot of intrigue . Kat keeps trying to get rid of Conlan only because she is trying to protect him. Recommend.
Savage Redemption.. Oh MY FREAKIN GOSH!! Was this book AWESOME.. I am almost ready to just end the review right there. This book totally and completely blew me away. I have read several of the series by Alexis Morgan and have always pushed back the decision to read her Vampire and Friends Series. Why? You may ask.. well I have this prejudice against vampire stories. I have to really be intrigued, teased and taunted and usually the Vampires can't really be Vampires.. They have to be the author's interpretation of vampires. Honestly I am not sure where the rest of the series lands but this book was about so much more than vampires.
Fast paced! action packed! I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. Frantically turning pages as I had to find out what would happen next. I was tied up in knots trying to figure out what would happen next. It was intense, extreme and oh so very delightful. People, this was not your parents vampire novel.
Conlan Shea has spent the last year getting his life together. A man who has spent his entire life making sure that justice prevails. That everyone have the best possible chance, even against the system. Found his life shattered because he believed in the wrong woman. After spending two years finishing out her prison sentence, he spent the next rebuilding his life brick by brick. By his own omission those bricks were built on a shaky foundation but he is getting there. Only to have it all shot to hell.. literally. Hearing gunshots outside the compound where he is now the security chief he rushes to defend. Finding a group of armed men attacking a single woman and two small children he immediately does everything he can to save them. When he finally gets to them the children are fine but the woman is lying in a pool of blood. Turning her over he discovers..
Kat Karr, resident whiz kid, a woman targeted for great things.. only trouble is she doesn't quite agree. She finds those great things abhorrent and because of the she is framed. Framed for corporate espionage, blowing up the lab she works in and murder. Having escaped three years earlier she watched her sister die. Leaving her the sole provider for her two nieces. She is finally at the end of her rope and wants to get them to safety. Choosing the compound of Rafferty O'Day, a strong vampire, she is attacked just outside his compound. Waking up later in the medical unit her worst fears prove true. Conlan believes she has betrayed him, well because she did, sorta. Rafferty will take her nieces but she is going back into custody. To Die.. there is no hope. Until...
Conlan believes in justice and he knows there was something off about her case when he took it three years ago. It doesn't matter what happened in the past he knew there was more to her story and with everyone bearing down on the O'Day compound both good guys and bad guys. He knows there only avenue open is to escape the compound and find the truth on their own. Traveling under the grid with the help of some rather interesting characters the two begin a fast paced, insane couple of days. Looking to get the information that will prove what Kat was working on and how she was framed.
This book was about more than Vampires and humans, it is about racism, greed, family, friendship and trust. It is a powerful story and I am already doing everything in my power to get my hands on all of the books that came before. Should you read the other books first? Probably but reading this as a stand alone takes nothing from this fantastic story. Another hit by Alexis Morgan

My Thoughts and Review
What a great read. The book was action packed to beginning to end. All the characters were engaging to read about. I believe this book to be part of a series. This wasn't your typical romance book and not what I expected. This vampire/romance/suspense novel was quite intriguing and was like no others that I have read before which was a pleasant surprise.
Kat Karr is on the run and seeking sanctuary for her two nieces at the O'Day estate. She is on the run accused of a crime that she did not commit but, is also engaged in something even bigger and now someone wants her dead for the secrets she holds on top of being convicted of murder beforehand. Kat made it to the O 'day estate where she encounters Conlan the lover she left behind to take the fall for her crimes before which Conlan was imprisoned and barely got out alive.Never expecting to see Conlan again this is and unexpected surprise.
What amazed me most about this story was Conlan the wounded Vampire with such a large forgiving heart. He totally amazed me and surprised me to no end on how he went about proving Kat's innocence even after she left him to rot in prison. He should have been revenge full and hate full and filled with so many more emotions toward Kat and he is not just the opposite willing to put his life on the line for her even after all the pain she has caused him.My kind of Vampire ! The plot was intriguing right from the beginning that kept you turning the pages just to see what happened next.
The story was well written with just the right amount of romance, intrigue and suspense.I have to say that sometimes through out the book I wanted to smack Kat for her own stupidity. After all Conlan has done for her she still doesn't trust him yet is in love him .Can you say frustrating aagh.....
After reading the book and finding some of the other characters so engaging we plan to go back and find there stories and read them also. His dear friends were all willing to all go out on a limb for Conlan making a great sacrifice to themselves and family by putting themselves on the line for if they we caught abetting him they would all go down with him too .Impressed me greatly!
We really can't say enough good things about how much we enjoyed the book.It is a recommended read for all..
Savage Redemption is quite a story, the two main characters Conlan and Kat have a heated past. Kat was accused of setting a research facility on fire and killing a man in the process. The one mistake Conlan made was letting Kat work her way into his heart, and once she had his heart she blew it to smithereens. Instead of letting Conlan prove her innocence Kat took off and left him to pay for her mistakes.
This book takes place three years after Conlan got sent to prison for letting Kat, a known criminal get away. These two aren’t ready for what’s ahead of them but they make the most out of it. There is one person that has never stopped looking for Kat and his hired Mercenaries won’t stop until she is found. Kat’s tired of running, but before she can turn herself in she has to find someone to protect her two nieces. Kat finds a safe place that she never expected to end up, in Conlan’s arms.
I loved that Kat wasn’t willing to let Conlan suffer for her crimes again; she was ready to face the music. The price for her crime is execution, and her only request is that Conlan watch out for Maggie and Rose, her nieces. Although I didn’t know her before, Kat just seemed to have grown up quite a bit over the three years that she’s been on the run. The fact that the Ms. Morgan made me feel for the characters so quickly proves to me that she has a talent for creating a world and characters that can become real to any reader.
And of course there are some amazing sexual scenes in these pages. Conlan definitely knows how to please a woman! Though there are as many sex scenes as expected they all had a rushed feeling to them because of the suspenseful feel to the story. The only other thing that I have to say against this book is that the ending and the conclusion to the conflict felt a bit hurried. Obviously a Harlequin is going to be shorter than normal but while I was reading it felt as if Ms. Morgan was trying to get her story to fit into a small amount of pages. Which as you can imagine completely changes the feel of the story, and the expected happily ever after.
This book was a quick, fun, steamy, and suspenseful read and I would recommend it to any paranormal romance fan! I believe this series has a lot of potential and talent. And I would like to see more from Alexis Morgan and the world of the Coalition and Mercenaries.

Kat's in real danger and Conlan is her only hope. With the enemy fast approaching, Kat is running out of time. Suddenly for Conlan, revenge doesn't seem so sweet…. It took me a while to get into the story, but I eventually started to enjoy it. Kat is a very independent strong female character, I enjoyed her. Conlan is guy that needs to learn trust I can’t blame him; she did run out on him and leave him with his hand caught in the preverbal cookie jar. It’s hard to be held accountable for someone else’s actions. But the trust & the need to help her happens quickly, just as quickly as everything else does in the story. I felt a bit rushed. The story is entertaining, but put your seat belt on, cause it’s a fast ride. Dina Pearlman did not add to the magic of the story. Pearlman’s voice is strong, but there was no note of inflection or tone, which is what draws me in and holds me when using an audio. You can choose to listen to the story her voice is adequate, but with no magic. Overall, you may see this listed as 4 star but I would give it 3 ½ stars. It’s not a bad, or poorly written story. It’s entertaining, but very fast paced for me, and the audio added nothing to capture & hold me. I did not realize this was a series until after I had already read it. I will tell you I don't think I missed a lot but I will be going back to read the rest in this series.
Conlan is a human/vampire halfbreed and head of security for a vampire. He's a very tough man to get close to and in this story you understand why he has huge walls around him. I liked seeing how strong he was but how soft he can be when he lets his guard down. I loved seeing him come to terms with his feelings for Kat and as much as he doesn't want to forgive her he really has no choice. He's sexy as hell and when he wants something he will move heaven and hell to get it. She's a lucky lucky woman.
Kat... I'm telling you this is an incredibly strong woman. To have withstood all the loss and pain she has and still have the ability to love is a testament to her strength. She's on the run from someone who has already killed her family other than her nieces but isn't willing to give up until she has them somewhere safe. This leads her to a strong vampire and back in to the arms of the man she loved but left for his own safety. She's fighting her attraction to him but when the walls come down it made for some steamy times. I loved watching them at the end and admired her for what she was willing to do even though she had nothing to be sorry for. She is truly innocent in this mess but was willing to take the fall if it meant her nieces were safe.
Go grab this cause I know I am going to grab the back-list.
Special thanks to NetGalley.com and Harlequin for letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.
Even though this is the fifth book in the series and I have not read the previous four books, I did not have a difficult time picking up this series and the world that it was set in. It was pretty easy to slip into mood.
Overall, this title was good, it wasn’t great but it was good. It didn’t have that extra something to pull it ahead to truly make it a great book that pulls you in and keeps you there until you are done. While Conlan and Kat were on the run and in danger the actual danger/action factor was not high, the feeling of danger was just not there, not like some books where the book reads like a high octane action movie.
I usually love a rekindle love affair, but this one was mediocre, I just had a hard time buying it. I mean because of Kat, Conlon served two years in jail and almost died, should have died actually and he forgave her pretty quickly. Especially since Kat never really apologized or seemed all that contrite about what she did at least not until the end. I am Italian enough to hold more of a grudge before forgiving. Kat was kind of eh, for me, but I did enjoy Conlon despite his quick to forgive. He was loyal, strong and a protector, everything that makes up a good alpha male. He stuck with Kat even when she was bashing him over the head.
For me it was the side characters that brought a lot to this book, they each had their own personalities that added a fun aspect to this book. I may look for the next books in the series just to get more glimpses of some of the unmated side characters.
Savage Redemption by Alexis Morgan 3 STARS This is the first book in the series that I have read. I got a little confused with thier societies but cleared up. If you had read the other books than you probably know most of the characters. I liked them. Thier are three groups of people, humans, vampires and chancellors(half human &vampires). Thier is a council of the coalition with strict laws thats keep the peace. Conlan Shea used to be a investagator for the coucil. But three years ago his prisoner escaped him and instead he was put in the prison for two years. Now he head of security for O'Day estate. When shots are fired by thier gates, he calls in backup. Goes to see who is shooting at what. He found mercanaries fighting a women two children so Colan protected them. Then he found out that the injured woman was Kat karr. Kat Karr was in custidy when she left him in bed and ran. He had not heard of her since. Now she was here with her nieces wanting help. Kat realized what she was working on was dangerous and someone was coming into and changing the data. She bought her some time. She has been on the run for three years. Why did she come here and who was willing to shoot at her and the two little girls. It was a mystery story, running for your life and romance in a vampire world. It was good to read on halloween. I would like to read the other books in the series. I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley. 09/03/2012 PUB Harlequin Imprint Harlequin Nocturne
Loved this thrilling, sexy read! I could have kept on reading more of this book. For years I had always associated the Mills & Boon label with hearts and flowers romance type reads... Reading Savage Redemption has altered my perception of the label - in a good way. I found this book to be driven by a love/hate relationship and a conscientious battle to do the wrong thing for the right reasons. I enjoyed the heat and flow of this book too. The sexual tension between protagonists had an electrifying current throughout the book. The sex scenes are mildly erotic and paint a vivid picture that is sure to make any hot blooded reader squirm while reading. In all honesty, I didn't find myself buying into the Vampire element of the book. Vampires are meant to be strong, bold, mythical creatures of darkness - real terrifying predatory creatures. The Vamps in this book came across as weaklings, using human weaponry to defend their estates and who lived in fear of being shot by bullets. The hybrid human/vamp cross element made the story interesting. I didn't buy this book for the Vamp element, but curiosity was what kept me reading. I couldn't put the book down! I thoroughly enjoyed the author's descriptive style of writing. I was able to escape into a parallel world where these imaginary creatures really existed. I loved it. I'm sure you'll enjoy reading this heart thumping, nail biting, sexy read too. Definitely worth it.
I enjoyed this book as I do all Alexis Morgans books.Conlans life gets a surprise when a person from his past is found injured and needing his help.Kat takes her two neices to the one place she feels they will be safe.Kat is in major trouble over events that happened three years ago and she trusts Conlan to help her, together they leave the safety of the the compound where Conlan works and set out to find the one thing that will prove her innocence.Surprises happen along the way,The feelings they have for each other begin to resurface and their safty and lives become a race against time. The enemy is closing in fast.We cheer for this couple.I found Kat to be somewhat unlikable at times.I enjoyed Conlan and his part of the story. Will this couple know happily ever after?
I love vampires and this book was good paranormal read. It has an awesome premise set in an alternate world. I enjoyed the story and especially the characters. A very good book.
