I don't know one thing about gardening, but my plan is to figure out exactly what I want to do over the winter, and then to implement it in the summertime (or whenever the hell it is you're supposed to implement things that potentially grow).
If you want to be a gardener or are already busy with a fascinating hobby, then grab this book. I already knew most of what was in this book, but still found some great ideas. I like some of the other "Dummies" books better.
A little give and take. I skipped annuals (too high maintenance for me) and bulbs (as I have a digging dog and many are poisonous). Quite repetitive, wish there were more pictures (esp on diseases and pests) and more "suggestion" plants. I would give the veggie and herb book 5 stars. It covered all of the essentials without going too far into the dummy territory, and gave comprehensive lists of plants with growing suggestions- which I feel is what the other books lacked.
I'm going to be referring to this book quite a bit! What a fabulous collection of gardening advice and guidance. For someone like me who didn't know diddly squat about gardening, I sure know quite a bit more after reading this book. Off to cultivate my gardenias...
