The book is really more like a catalog of tools and platforms than a book. But still a good shopping guide for the uninitiated.

If you know nothing about big data, than this book is for you. It provides very high level introduction to big data.

The author provides you general idea about big data and then takes you to a journey of its world. He explains the available options staying their pros and cons. Towards the end author discusses about the different plays in the space such as Microsoft, Google and Oracle.

Authors argument that developing and designing software architecture is much more difficult note note then in 80's makes sense.
