Busy juggling loan sharks and Amber Alerts, Detective Nickie Savage makes time when the FBI seeks her expertise with a child trafficking ring. But when Nickie discovers that the men running the ring are the same ones who abducted her as a young teen, the case gets personal. Risking her badge, Nickie goes rogue. Luckily, she has Duncan Reed, along with his wire tapping and surveillance expertise. But Duncan also wants to take their relationship to the next level. Now, Nickie must break her own rules and risk her heart or forge ahead alone.
R.T. was born and raised in the Midwest, the youngest of six children. She married at a young age and decided early on she wanted a family herself. With three small boys in tow, she and her husband flipped two houses with R.T. in charge of the landscape design and install. Now, she is rooted in the final home they designed inside and out.
Now that her boys are nearly grown, R.T. spends much of her time on the road traveling from one sporting event to another serving as mom and cheerleader. When at home, she enjoys Pilates, working with her Golden Retriever and digging in the glorious dirt of her landscaping plots.
During one of many busy and restless nights, R.T.’s first novel began to pluck its way onto her laptop. It was a drug, an instant addiction that only grew with time. Moments borrowed and stolen at her laptop are, now, between all of the travel and work and many of those busy, restless nights. After several edits, revisions and versions later R.T.’s first novel, Black Creek Burning, was published by Crimson Romance on September 24th.
R.T. has been honored to be in the top 5 of the Goodreads New Authors to Read list, a guest on USA Today's Happy Ever After blog and my trailer is nearing 1,000 hits. The book has earned a 4.8 star rating on Amazon.
Savage. It's more than a name, it's a way of life.
Police Detective Nickie Savage had that brutal truth carved into her skin and burned into her mind when she was a child stolen from her home and forced to do things no child should ever have to do. But that was fifteen years ago, her past a bloody, jagged-edged crucible that forged her into the cop she is today.
She knows that's the reason the Feds have approached her to consult on a case surrounding a child prostitution ring. As suspicious as that makes her, she's quick to fly out to the crime scene in Vegas with Duncan Reed, famous artist, former military explosives expert, sometimes-hacker boyfriend by her side. Walking through the crime scene stirs echoes from her own tragedy, but that's not the worst of it.
With Duncan providing an assist, Nickie discovers evidence that suggests the perps behind the case are the same sick bastards who stole her from her own bed when she was only fourteen. With the implications of that connection rocking Nickie to the core and dark, painful secrets slowly rising to the surface after over a decade of suppression, it will take everything Nickie has just to stay sane.
And every trick in Duncan's well-stocked arsenal to keep the woman he loves alive.

Lately it seems I'm plagued with series debuts that don't read like series debuts. It's frustrating. At least in this case, there's a clear reason for it. Main characters Nickie and Duncan are featured in both Wolfe's Black Creek series and in Savage Echoes, a prequel novella for this series. I'm certain I would have had an easier time with this book had I read those, because there just wasn't enough exposition in this one to sufficiently introduce the characters or explain important story elements before the meat of the plot got going.
That was a problem for me, as the majority of the plot conflict revolves around Nickie's past, and there are a plethora of references to events and situations that I could only assume took place in one of those other two stories. As a result, I spent most of the first half of the book (and in places in the second half) feeling a general sense of disconnect and varying levels of confused.
I think my understanding was hampered by the third person limited point of view in which it's written. Though the character focus in the narrative shifts back and forth between Nickie and Duncan, which helped me get better acquainted with each of them, the lack of an omniscient voice didn't allow for a broader picture of their world and their past, and neither character deigned to reminisce on previously established information in a way that would have helped me find and keep my footing with the story.
That's a shame, too, because I think if I'd had that previously laid groundwork to build on, I could have loved this book.
I know I loved Duncan and I enjoyed Nickie most of the time - which is saying a lot for me, as I'm very tough on my fictional heroines. There were times when Nickie totally shut down and seemed more the victimized damsel than was comfortable for me, but most of the time she was a tough-as-nails, gritty chick I admired.
The best parts of the book for me were the scenes that featured both Duncan and Nickie. I absolutely adored them as a couple. Between Duncan's stalwart and unflagging devotion to Nickie and her fierce love for him, despite her myriad issues and their very different personalities, their scenes together stole the show for me. Before I was even sure I liked either character, I loved them together.
I also liked that their relationship, while obviously new, was already established. I don't read a lot of romance fiction in which that's the case, but I think the romantic suspense genre is a good fit for that particular relationship dynamic. Too, both Duncan and Nickie are very damaged characters, another point that appeals. Characters just seem more realistic to me when they have damage or flaws that impact their lives. We are all, to a one of us, walking wounded.
The external conflict in the plot was solid and meaty, even though some of the context was lost on me, but a few elements left me perplexed. I couldn't quite get a handle on Nickie's roll on the police force, as she seemed to spend more time investigating the connection between the evidence recovered in Vegas and her own childhood trauma than working any current day-to-day cases.
Don't get me wrong, I liked the story elements in the book and thought the investigative/police procedural end was nicely done. I just wasn't clear on how she could spend so much time on it over her open, active cases and more recent local crimes. I ended up feeling a little perplexed but mostly entertained by it all.
Hell, any attempt to end what was going on with the Bad Guys in this book is considered a solid win for me, story-wise.
Now that I've spent time with Nickie and Duncan and gotten a feel for their personal histories and their relationship, I want to read more, but to be completely honest, it wasn't always easy getting here. I would recommend this book only to readers familiar with the third book in Wolfe's Black Creek series or that prequel novella I mentioned. I certainly wish I had read those, because Savage Deception is listed as the first book in what has the potential to be a gangbusters romantic suspense series. It just doesn't read like it.
Disclosure: A copy of this book was provided to me by the author for review. This rating, review, and all included thoughts and comments are my own. ~*~*~*~ Reviewed for One Good Book Deserves Another.
Savage Deception was a fantastic romantic suspense that kept me turning pages. While it’s technically the start of a new series, it directly follows another book in a previous series. When I first started reading Savage Deception, I hadn’t read that other book, and have to admit to being pretty confused. I don’t think it stands alone well … though I might have gotten things sorted over time, if I wasn’t already a big fan of the author, I might not have kept reading.
What I did do is read that other book and once that was cleared up, it was full speed ahead! Now I was fully engaged and loving every word. The plot here was tightly created with plenty of twists I wasn’t expecting. The heroine, Nickie, is put through the wringer here with her past bumping into the present and she finds out some things that nearly break her.
Don’t worry… she has Duncan. And he’s the most awesome boyfriend ever. I really do love the man and wouldn’t hesitate to steal him away from her if I could. He’s not perfect, thankfully, but his flaws make him that much more wonderful. I really love their relationship, and it developed well here. It’s sweet and romantic, hot and sexy, and really very realistic. They have their ups and downs, but thankfully they know they can trust each other and that makes everything work.
The secondary characters here were just as great as ever. Duncan’s family is so much fun. I really love them all and am glad to be able to keep up with what they’re doing. Nickie has a surrogate family, since her biological one is worse than useless. Her captain, her foster mom … they’re really what give her a solid foundation.
My confusion at the start, along with a few editing errors (the first I remember seeing in Ms. Wolfe’s books — these were wrong words or typos) are all that kept this from being rated higher. I really did enjoy the story once I got my head wrapped around it. It was everything romantic suspense should be: exciting, interesting, well plotted, romantic and had a solid, satisfying wrap up.
I’m sold on this new series and excited to continue on with Nickie Savage, at least as long as I get the whole crew of characters along with her!
To call Nickie Savage and Duncan Reed polar opposites would be an understatement. She’s a damn good detective with a whole lot of baggage and he’s from a lifestyle she can only imagine, dripping with class and good looks. And yet somehow they work, in their own way.
Eight months before the story begins, NIckie had been the one who was responsible for breaking up a mass kidnapping ring that forced kids in their early teens into prostitution. Now the FBI wants her help with a similar situation. Little do they realize she has personal experience with a group just like this, of the kind that leaves deep scars.
Duncan has tried to amalgamate Nickie into his life as much as possible without freaking her out. But she has so many damn rules she feels compelled to follow. And he respects them because he loves her.
Nickie and Duncan are each flawed in their own ways, and the author brings them powerfully to life. The writing is very strong and very fast paced. I found myself reading faster and faster in order to find out what would happen to them, because I couldn’t even begin to guess.
This is a rollercoaster of a ride that you’ll be glad you took. I was so involved with these characters that I carried them with me when I wasn’t reading. As if the story would continue and magically appear before me.
The love between Nickie and Duncan floored me, and I enjoyed their intimate scenes together, as well as watching them mesh as a couple, each learning how to be with the other. Together, each can be whole, through the power of their love.
If you like stories with suspense, mystery, despair, hope, and above all, love, give this a try. I loved it, and look forward to the next book in the series.
Nickie Savage is called in on a case as a consultant for the FBI, but they are not divulging much and she has to stick with what her gut says to give them her opinion. With Duncan Reed close by Nickie knows he will be by her side. However when everything implodes and Nickie finds a tie to her past, she knows she needs to follow it. Problem is that even though she doesn't readily admit it she loves Duncan and he wants to make a big step in their future together.
I was a big fan of the Black Creek series where Nickie and Duncan were introduced. This new series is gritty, suspenseful, and dynamic. I was compelled to finally find out more about Nickie's past and Duncan is one of those characters you swoon over, he is sweet but pure alpha. Anxious to read more about Nickie.
Okay before we dive into the review I’m going to mix it up a bit. I’m going to talk about the following in my review: cover, heroine, hero, plot, setting, secondary characters and overall impression to the series. A couple of other things, too. I love Ms. Wolfe. I was introduced to Ms. Wolfe’s Black Creek series when it first came out. Black Creek Burning is Brie and Nathan’s book. Flying in Shadows is Andy’s and Rose’s book. Savage Vengeance is the start of Duncan and Nickie’s story. To be honest, you don’t need to read the first two books in the series to understand Vengeance but I strongly suggest that you do just because they are awesome. I will link my reviews to them at the bottom of the post.
Cover_Savage Deception
1. Cover: Normally I don’t mention the cover but in this case I need to. The cover girl is Nickie. I couldn’t have pick out a more perfect picture of our heroine. Oh and Duncan…yes, she nailed it. Suit and all.
2. Setting: The setting is a character all of its own. The book is mainly set in upstate New York and Ms. Wolfe takes you to a place that you wish you could live or at least visit. The “compound” where they all live is beautiful. At least in my mind it is.
3. Plot: Nitty gritty time. Where to start? As stated in the blurb, this case is personal, very personal. Again, I suggest that you read Savage Vengeance to get a better feel for this book. Ms. Wolfe does a great job of showing Nickie’s back story here but as a reader I feel like you need more of her back story. Plus, there are little things about Duncan’s and Nickie’s romance that might not ring true with the casual reader. There is no instalove but a continuation of their romance that started in the earlier book. Keep in mind that Savage Deception sets up a story thread that doesn’t conclude until much later in the series. I love that in this series. You might also think that since the series is about the same couple that there may be a comparison to Eve and Roarke. There is but this is different. While Eve doesn’t have a the family dynamic, Duncan and Nickie do and its a great addition to the book. Ms. Wolfe has nailed police procedures too. From the squad room to the penitary you get inside Nickie’s head and what she is doing. Again, this is romantic suspense and the subject matter of child prostitution and kidnapping isn’t a subject that most authors would tackle but Ms. Wolfe handles it well and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the series. Plus what’s up with Nickie’s biological parents? Oh yes, they make an appearance. Ivanna needs to be slapped upside her head.
4. Secondary Characters: Again, Ms. Wolfe uses her secondary characters well. We get to see Andy helping his older brother, Duncan. Dave is back as Nickie’s captain and the two FBI agents are great, too. While there are secondary characters in this book, there aren’t alot that you have to keep up with. Oh and did I mention Nickie’s old captain that is now in jail? Nope? Again, he is explained during the jail visits. Ooooo, I was glad for those scenes. I wanted to shot him myself if I had the chance.
5. Duncan: What do you do when you are a billionaire, artist in love with a quirky, flawed and not so trusting cop? Well, you love her like there is no tomorrow, give her space, try not to keep things from her and stop hounding her about closet space. The sweetest thing that Duncan did for her was the swimming pool. Who knew that a way to girl’s heart is an indoor swimming pool? Oh and putting up with her nightmares and just soothing them away. Duncan has his own secrets and issues to deal with and he is dealing with them. But he deals with hunches and Nickie deals in facts. These two on paper couldn’t be more opposite and wrong for each other but that’s what makes them a couple. They have to work at it and even during gun fire, Nickie’s work and Duncan wanting to just make “his Nickie” happy…its perfection.
6. Nickie: OMG! In my book, Nickie is the PERFECT heroine. She’s quirky, smart, compassionate, sexy, confused, in love, damaged by her childhood, flawed and I want to be her friend. Hang out with her, talk to her, drink Diet Coke with her (well, I’d drink Diet Dr. Pepper or Coke Zero) and generally just be there for her. She has baggage. She has violent nightmares that lead to her hitting Duncan in bed. Yes, she suffers from PTSD from her 18 months of being kidnapped. She has alot to learn about being in a relationship with Duncan. Yes, she and Duncan have some bumps in the road but they truly do love each other and work on them together. She does have some trust issues but who wouldn’t with everything that she’s been through. But that’s what makes her GREAT! There is no angst, just a real woman with problems that most of us can identify with. Well, maybe not the kidnapping but the job stress, relationship issues and dealing with family. Feeling alone when you are surrounded by people.
7. Smexy Times: Yes, they are there. Some are intense, emotional but no worries about them being graphic. Ms. Wolfe knows her stuff and trust me…*wiggles eyebrows* Duncan lets Nickie know how long its been since he has seen her naked. *giggles*
8. Overall impression: PERFECTION. Yes, this book is my favorite book so far this year. I re-read Savage Vengeance, Savage Echoes and Savage Deception in a marathon one day. I had the book hangover but it was so worth it. Ms. Wolfe has a fan for life and Nickie Savage is my girl crush now. I adored her, loved Duncan and can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out.
I received a copy of this book from the author for a review.
Savage Deception is the first book in the Nickie Savage series. So, I started reading the book under the impression that this was the first book involving the characters of Nickie Savage and Duncan Reed. However, after reading just a few pages, I found that some events that had occurred in the past were referenced in such a way, that seemed to suggested that the reader was supposed to be already aware of those events.
That is when I found out that Nickie and Duncan have already appeared in Dark Vengeance the third book in the Black Creek series and Savage Echoes which is a prequel novella for this series.
The plot of this book revolves around Nickie's past, and there many references to events and conversations, that took place in the two books that I have already mentioned above. Since I haven't read those books, in the beginning I was confused many times, and had to makes some assumptions about what might have happened in the previous books.
This book doesn't provide much information about the events that took place in the previous books. Also, there is very little background history about the main characters Nickie and Duncan, as well as the supporting characters.
So, to really enjoy this book I would suggest that you read the previous two book featuring Nickie and Duncan before reading this one. In fact, it would be best if you read the Black Creek series first and then start reading the books in this series.
Despite all that I really liked this book. The story has suspense, romance, some mystery and some action. The author has a really good writing style and maintains the suspense from the beginning to the end. The plot is fast paced and has no loopholes.
I loved the characters of Nickie and Duncan. Both are haunted by the events in their past that threaten to destroy their present. But, in each other they find comfort and strength to face their nightmares, and to slay the demons of their past.
Both Nickie and Duncan are complex characters that have multiple layers to their personalities. Though they both are very strong characters Nickie is more bad ass and outgoing. Duncan on the other hand is more calm and measured but, together they are perfect for each other.
Nickie and Duncan have amazing chemistry and their romance feels very real and is not at all cheesy. Duncan is always there for Nickie no matter what and she is just as devoted to him.
Most of the supporting characters have already appeared in the Black Creek series so, not much of their history is provided in this book. If you want to know more about them you will just have to read the Black Creek series.
I had thought that all the demons of Nickie's past would be laid to rest in this book but that didn't happen. So, I will just have to wait for the next book to see how the story progresses. In the mean time I will definitely be reading the Black Creek series and Savage Echoes novella.
I write sweet romance stories. There might be a little mystery involved, perhaps an injury or even death. But my mind doesn’t go toward the tough, dark side of life, where no one can be trusted and every breath you take could be your last. I don’t pretend to understand the mind of someone dealing with human trafficking, corrupt police departments, and betrayal by those who should be there to protect you, especially your family. I leave those kinds of stories to the big guns.
I’d have to say RT Wolfe is one of the big guns. Her name might draw a blank stare from the clerks at the big-name book store at the mall, but this story packs as much of a punch as anyone whose books have been made into movies. I had the opportunity to read a review copy of Savage Deception and the story was so terrifying I made sure all the doors were locked and bolted after I read.
Nickie Savage is the tough-as-nails detective. She’s on the trail of the man who’s running a prostitution ring, with underage girls. And she has a personal reason for wanting this particular ring shut down. Her personal outlet is music. She plays the cello – one of my favorite solo instruments!
Duncan Reed is the perfect hero for a strong, active heroine. He’s strong enough to protect her, but he doesn’t get in her way – instead, he works WITH her. And it doesn’t help that he’s wealthy, good-looking, and an artist to boot! His gift of photographic memory is only one of the ways he helps her untangle the endless maze of questions and roadblocks they encounter.
There was only one thing in the book that puzzled me. As a musician, I can appreciate the fact that producing music calms her down. But I had to wonder – given her rough past, when did she have time to learn to play the cello? Where and when would she have had time to practice it while she went to college and police training? Also, why would a person who lives from day to day choose to play an instrument that large and expensive? Just carrying it around is a chore. Perhaps those questions were addressed in an earlier book.
Savage Deception by RT Wolfe is the first in a new series by RT Wolfe. Nickie and Duncan were introduced in book three of The Black Creek Series,Dark Vengeance. If all of RT’s books are as powerful as Savage Deception I guess I’d better plan on a reading vacation. It’s tough, it’s gritty, and I couldn’t put it down. You know those sassy women detectives on TV and in the movies? They have nothing on Nickie Savage. Read it. You’ll see.
Some time ago, I read a book by this author in what seems to be a similar series. She impressed me then, and she's still impressing me. While I've clearly missed something previously (Duncan and Nickie are already a couple, and there's some backstory I didn't have and it took me a little while to catch up), I still dug right in to this book and really enjoyed it.
Nickie acts tough, but she's soft when it comes to Duncan, and no wonder. The man is crazy for her. She's my favorite kind of heroine: smart, sassy, strong but one with heart. I really enjoyed watching her do whatever it took to catch the bad guys, even when it was incredibly hard for her emotionally.
Duncan's awesome, too. I remember him from my other story about his brother and am glad he finally found his own love. He's hot-headed, but loyal, smart and loving. I don't think Nickie would have made it through this book without him, since she discovered something things that were pretty rough. And Duncan's family is wonderful to behold. Actually, all the secondary characters in this book really added flavor and fun.
The author is incredibly talented. Her writing is strong, descriptive and nearly perfectly clean. It's the kind of writing that essentially disappears and instead creates a movie in your mind. I lost track of time with this book, once I figured out what was what. It's exciting, interesting, nerve-wracking ... but it also touched my heart. Clearly, I need to go back and grab her entire backlist because she writes the type of romantic suspense I really enjoy.
I started out by reading Black Creek Burning and it was full of actions, suspensions and love. From there, I get to know Brie and Nathan. Nathan adopted his nephews Duncan and Andy Reed after their parents passed away from an accident.
Then I proceed to Flying in Shadows where Andy had grown up and it's about his story.
Next is Dark Vengeance where the book introduce our grown up Duncan and Detective Nickie Savage. Actually in book two, we already caught a glimpse at Nickie but we doesn't know much about her until this book.
Now with Savage Deception, we managed to learn more about her and Duncan relationship. I like Nickie cos she's tough and don't take shit attitude. As for the Reed brothers, Duncan always have a place in my heart. Here, we are able to dig deeper into Nickie past. The ones who kidnapped her and Duncan's urge to revenge and protect. It's good to have this series started cos I like Nickie and it's good to read more about her.

Savage Deception is well written and this detective romantic novel keeps the reader engrossed all the way through. Coming as I did into the first book in a new series, without having read the previous series, made it a little difficult to sort through the relationship between Duncan and Nicky. The book had a number of other unanswered questions, leaving the reader to surmise some of the facts.
Nicky and Duncan's relationship is unorthodox, but it works for them. Nicky is a woman who has been to hell and back, and Duncan watches over her, her loving guardian, keeping her safe even when she's asleep and in the grip of nightmares. Bringing down the perpetrators is Nicky's first objective, but in order to do so, she has to break some rules. I identified with Nicky's need to bring closure to her own situation and I loved the fact that Duncan had such broad shoulders and was able to weather any frustration aimed at him by Nicky. Savage Deception should come with an age restriction and sensitive readers might want to prepare themselves before reading this book, especially if they are at risk of having flashbacks.
Haven't received my copy yet, just received notice I had won. 2/20/14 Received my copy and hope to start soon. Have 4 others plus my current read in front. FYI to sender, the packaging was torn and the post office put it in a clear wrap to protect it from further damage. Not sure if it was how it was wrapped or the post office's fault. 3/1/14 Started 4/5/14 Finished 4/8/14
Detective Nickie Savage is busy dealing with loan sharks, shootings, and other day to day crime. The FBI would like her input and help on a child trafficking ring. Nickie discovers it is the same group that abducted her when she was young. Things get personal.
This was an exciting read. It reads like a TN episode of Law and Order SVU or something similar except for the sex scenes between Nickie and Duncan. The story line was intriguing, the characters realistic and engaging, and the plot moved quickly. My only sort of negatives is the flashbacks to previous cases/situations. It made it seem like this wasn't book 1 of the series. I kept feeling as thought I was missing something. Oh, I also would like to slap her parents up side their heads!
Wow. What a story. R.T. Wolfe combines mystery, suspense, and romance in this exciting detective story. Nicki Savage is strong and vulnerable, a tough cop with a terrifying past. Duncan Reed loves her unconditionally. She’s not so sure. What they do agree on is saving girls from prostitution. Heightening the suspense, Nicki feels safe with Duncan to reveal her past, one glimpse at a time. The FBI adds unnecessary complications. They’re arrogant and act like they’re doing her a favor by exploiting her knowledge and experience in rescuing girls. They reminded me of the jerks in the first Die Hard movie.
This is the beginning of a new series. However, I felt a little like I came in after the beginning. The reader would benefit from reading the short story prequel Savage Echoes (free for Kindle, at this time). That being said, the characters are well-developed--not just Nickie and Duncan but their families, too. The plot carries the reader on such a downhill ride, it’s hard to put it down. Not a good idea to read this at bedtime unless you don’t have to go to work in the morning. Well done, Ms. Wolfe.
Whew! Once again, RT Wolfe takes readers on a suspenseful journey filled with twists and turns. Savage Deception is the first in an all new series, but long time readers should be familiar with Nickie as she shows up in the Black Creek series.
I love that we get Nickie as a leading character....I love the fact that I could feel plenty of her emotions, and that's what helps me get really involved in a book.
While this is a standalone and the first in a series, there are at times references to things in the other series that could possibly confuse someone not familiar, but maybe not. Regardless, I enjoyed this story!
From page one I was already caught into a web of intrigue. The story is fast paced, unexpected and had many great aspects that made up for one heck of a ride! I love suspense, love mystery and of course love romance and this book definitely has a bit of everything for everyone. I'm so excited to see where this series takes us and will be eagerly looking forward to much more! Bring it!
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review. This book is about Detective Nikki Savage and Duncan Reed. Nikki is forced to remember her past when she discovers a kidnapping and prostitution ring that is similar to what happened to her when she was a teenager. With Duncan's help she tries to get the FBI to help her take down the ring, but they shut her out of the investigation because of her past. She doesn't give up and works tirelessly to find all the people responsible for the prostitution ring and stop them for good. This book has great suspense, a strong love story, and lots of edge of your seat action. I suggest reading this book, but only after you read R.T. Wolfe's other series Black Creek. I made the mistake of reading this first and was a little confused during parts of the book.
If the rest of the books in the Nickie Savage series are anything like the first one, I’m adding them to my TBR pile now!
The first page of Savage Deception intrigued me and made me laugh at the same time. Early in the book, I felt I had missed some important information and I wondered if I should have read the previous books first. But this fast-paced read drew me in and kept me turning pages. I didn’t want to put it down.
There were a few quick point-of-view changes that caused me to re-read small sections. I'm really curious to see if and how R.T. uses some loose ends in future books. I love how she writes about real-life issues. R.T. has really grown as a writer since her first book, and I look forward to reading more.
This was an excellent start to what I can only presume will be a very engaging series. Nickie Savage is a complicated woman and professionally driven detective. Some of her cases hit too close to home for comfort. Luckily her indispensable lover, and on-the-sly partner, Duncan Reed, has her back. And her heart.
I love how these two damaged souls form one beautiful whole when together. It's poetic, even when it shakes her up. They're a force to be reckoned with when they team up. The case they tackle together, and the ensuing tension, will keep you reading this multi-layered story.
We first met tough cop/detective with a mysterious past in Book 3 of the Black Creek Burning series, Dark Vengeance. We learn a little more about her in the short teaser novella, Savage Echoes. Now Savage Deception is here! I was happy to read this novel in pre-publication and it's absolutely wonderful. More of what you loved in R.T. Wolfe's previous books about Nickie's never-ending mission to wipe teen prostitution rings off the streets, and more of what you loved of the romance between Nickie and older Reid brother, Duncan.
This it first in the Nickie Savage series and I am anxious to read many more of R.T Wolfe's work. From the first page, you are on the edge of your chair until the final words which leave you waiting for more.
Nickie is a bundle of energy and determined to avenge the victims in this well-written story. With Duncan at her side, they can't miss.
I received a copy of this book from eBook from eBook Discovery in exchange for my honest review.
I met Detective Nickie Savage in Book 3 of the Black Creek Series. I'm so glad to have found her again in her own series. I highly recommend the series to lovers of romantic suspense.
The story continues....I liked this a lot and I like that the characters from the Black Creek Burning series are somewhat included. I would recommend this series.
3.25 Stars. After reading the prelude, I assumed this story would take place in Las Vegas, but that wasn’t the case. Nickie is working in Northridge. Duncan, when he is not busy with his art work, he is piecing together clues from Nickie’s past. He makes an important connection. Nickie is getting stronger and ready to face her past and bring the men responsible to justice. She is asked to assist the FBI, but when they cut her out of the action, she teams up with Duncan to save the lives of innocent teenage girls, no matter the consequences. The relationship between Duncan and Nickie isn’t without issues. They have passion and love, along with trust issues and insecurities.
A great read with everything from, innocence to absolute horror. This story is so true on too many levels. Wolfe definitely did all the footwork on this rollercoaster ride. You have suspense, cruelty, hatred, broken and finding the one soul who understands your. An awesome read that I would highly recommend.
Savage has a lot of baggage, but a good cop, goes against the grain to get what she wants done on a case. To find out what she is working on is tied to her own abduction. The plot flowed and characters were very well described. Takes readers on a taunt, tension filled ride. This is a great beginning to a new series and author for me.
I love Nickie and Duncan and the fact that their relationship was established when the series started. I’ve never read a book where the romance was in full bloom which eliminates all the drama that a new romance has.
Nickie and Duncan are both strong individuals and compliment each other.
Savage Deception is the first romantic suspense book in The Nickie Savage series written by R. T. Wolfe. Excellent fast-paced story. Thanks to the author for the complimentary copy.
I really like the relationship between Duncan and Nickie they seem like they could be a very strong couple. They both have deep issues but are very strong individuals and I see a lot of growth here.
