Lulu was brought up in the Oxfordshire countryside, attended a girls’ school and then went to Oxford University, where she read English Literature. After university, she worked in publishing for several years, before becoming a novelist.
Lulu says of her books: ‘I’ve always adored stories of the rich and reckless at play, everything from The Great Gatsby to the brilliant blockbuster novels of the 80s. It’s fantastic escapism, and I’ve always loved creating my own stories of adventure, romance and luxury. My heroines are often very privileged and blessed with great looks and good health – but that doesn’t mean their lives are simple – far from it. They go through plenty of drama and suffering before everything is finally resolved.
‘Sex, love, beauty and money have always entranced us, and one way or another are the basis for just about every story ever written. There’s plenty of all of that in my novels, along with high fashion, which I love. What’s more, writing about fashion means I can go virtual shopping, dressing my heroines in all the wonderful clothes I adore – the racks of Marchesa ball gowns, the shelves of Louboutins, mountains of Chanel bags and acres of Dior dresses... it’s lots of fun. The stories can also get quite racy at times. It’s all about entertaining and amusing the reader, and enjoying being inside my characters’ glamorous, rarefied existence. ‘I’m always thrilled when someone enjoys reading my book as much I enjoyed writing it.’
Lulu now lives in West Dorset near the Somerset border, with her husband and two children.
Let just say right away that OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE reads exactly like a ‘80s novel. It has glitz and glam written all over it. There are two central characters...
I was very excited about reading Lulu Taylor’s Outrageous Fortune, and I was hooked from the first few pages!
The story focuses on two girls born on the same day, who live in very different circumstances, yet have a lot more in common with each other than it first seems. Daisy is from a very privileged background, and enjoys a life of luxury - socialising and spending her Daddy’s money as she pleases. Chanelle however, has been brought up in a rough council estate by her alcoholic mother, and is determined to have a better life and succeed in her dreams. Both of their lives are dramatically turned upside down and they find that their fortunes are reversed. Now, they both have to fight to survive and come out on top in this world.
Lulu Taylor has written a brilliant, fast paced story that is so gripping you won’t be able to put it down for a moment! I found myself racing through the pages, which are all filled with suspense, sex and scandal at every corner.
The characters were very well written, I really liked Daisy and Chanelle’s characters but in different ways. I enjoyed reading about Daisy’s privileged lifestyle, the things she did on a daily basis and how she had the entire world at her feet. With Chanelle, I really felt emotionally involved with her. After reading about Chanelle’s background and upbringing, I really felt for her and I was rooting for her all the way throughout the story, as I so desperately wanted everything to work out the way she wanted it to. Both Daisy and Chanelle were so believable, they seemed to jump out of the pages and into real life. As I read the story, I really felt as though I knew them personally, and I hoped that things would work out for Chanelle and Daisy.
I won’t give anything away, but there are a lot of surprises, twists and turns in this fantastic book! Outrageous Fortune takes you on a thrilling journey with Chanelle and Daisy, and their story is captivating, glamourous, sexy and more. A must read!!!
Igazán jó történet, de irtózatosan szakaszosra sikeredett stilussal. Rettentően zavart a helyesirasi hiba és szerintem a fordítás is csak vett el belőle.
This book have a very good story plot and i was totally engrossed with the book. I feel like being suck into the plot that i cant seem to be able to put down the reader at all. At times, i can actually read for 2 hours straight without realising the time passes by. This is how engrossed i am with the book.
The story is about the Daggerfields' family where the future generation is against their own father who is a manipulative old man. Daddy Daggerfield is an autocratic person. It can be seems in both his dealing with the employees as well as with his children; Will, Sarah and Daisy. Among the three of them, both Will and sarah has been written off from his book as they are rebellious and dare to challenge his authority. Daisy, on the other hand, is very submissive and think of the world about Daddy. But all this change, when Daddy get to know that Daisy is not his biological daugher. He kicked her out and force her to change her name. All that when she was only eighteen and have no one turned to. Fast forward to current, Daisy who is now known as Daphne, sneak into the least popular hotel of Daddy's hotel empire to work as a chambermaind. She was determined to prove to him that eventhough she is not a Daggerfield, she is as good as he is. On the other hand, Will is issuing summons to his Dad for mismanagement of the Daggefield's funds and determned to have him resigned.
The relationship between Daisy and Daddy Daggerfield from the beginning is abit of weird. It just does not make sense with the thing that he do and buy for her and at the same time ignoring his other kids. Eventhough Daisy was being showered with money and affections, one thing that i m happy about her was that she is a strong girl and humble. And because of that, she is able to turn the event from being kicked out of the house and lost everything that she have in her life to a positive event. It is something that others may not be able to do. What more at such a young age.
I really enjoyed the book very well. It is superbly been writen off and there are just enough twist and turns in the story to make a reader so engrossed with the book that he or she just have to sit and read thru it to find out the answer. Just like what i was ;)
Really enjoyed this. Easy, light read but loved picking it up after a long day at work. Allegra and Xander also appear in this book from midnight girls. Definitely recommended
In the past the books by this Author have been a bit hit and miss with me, however I purchased this book as I liked the description on the back, I have put it to the bottom of my reading pile, but decided to start reading it. I really enjoyed this book, it is split into 4 parts it is very easy to read and follow, I would definitely recommend and will look out for more books by this Author in the future.
If this lady can get a book published, so can anyone. An inspiration to any would be writers. My favourite part was the court room scene at the end. Straight out of Dynasty/Dallas/any 80s TV show.
