Et pourtant, à y regarder de plus près, ils nous font penser à quelqu’un. Nous, bien sûr ! Rire de leur folie, n’est-ce pas rire par avance de celle qui nous guette si nous n’y prenons pas garde ?

Claire Castillon fait son entrée sur la scène littéraire française en septembre 2000, elle n'a alors que 25 ans. Le grenier, un premier roman (éditions Anne Carrière), surprenant et dérangeant, retient l'attention des critiques et séduit un large public. Claire Castillon récidive avec Je prends racine (éditions Anne Carrière), un second roman qui assoit son statut de romancière tout en l'affranchissant des étiquettes. La reine Claude publiée en mai 2002 (éditions Stock) l'installe définitivement parmi les auteurs français qui comptent. Pourquoi tu m'aimes pas? son quatrième roman (éditions Fayard, août 2003) est considéré comme son oeuvre la plus aboutie et beaucoup regrettent son absence des palmarès littéraires. Vous parler d'elle (éditions Fayard, août 2003), cinquième roman en cinq ans, relate l'histoire d'une jeune femme enfermée et prostrée dans sa maison de campagne suite á un choc. Réfugiée dans le toit de cette maison, prise par le ressassement et l'angoisse elle va revivre sa vie, perdue, prise par le jeu de sa mémoire, entre vérité et fantasme.
Vous parler d'elle a obtenu le Grand Prix Thyde Monnier.

De novembre 2004 à juin 2005, Claire Castillon a fait une petite incursion sur le petit écran, elle a en effet animé tous les samedis En attendant minuit sur la chaine du câble TPS Star. Cette émission, qui existe toujours, fait un tour d'horizon de l'actualité du sexe aux quatre coins de la planète de façon informative et ludique.

En 2006 Claire Castillon saute à pieds joints dans la nouvelle avec la publication d'Insecte, un recueil de nouvelles (éditions Fayard) sur les rapports entre les mères et les filles. Le succes est immense, cet exercice de style lui sied à merveille. Insecte a été traduit en douze langues (anglais, italien, allemand, néerlandais, castillan, catalan, portugais, danois, finnois, suédois, chinois et coréen).
On n'empêche pas un petit coeur d'aimer (éditions Fayard), un second recueil de nouvelles, parait en 2007. 23 nouvelles croustillantes qui passent les relations hommes-femmes au peigne fin.

My second Castillon and not as fun or effective as the first one, though the one with the dirty talking was so hilarious that I burst out laughing out loud. That was a first for me. But it was so perfectly written. God I would've wished the others would've been as great as that one. All in all not bad at all, but feels like a collection of demos or riffs. Even one story told in this space would've been a bit too short to get into, but we got 19 of them. But also a good refreshing thing to read in between everything else and nothing necessarily bad. I sensed a lot of control on these pages in many different ways.

Tää oli mitäänsanomaton. Halusin lukee tän koska tässä kokoelmassa oli kaksi hyvää monologia joita mun kaverit oli käyttänyt viime vuonna lopputöissään. Ne kaks oli oikeesti mielenkiintoisesti rakennettu ja hyviä. Muuten teos oli täynnä samanlaisia naisten kertomia ränttejä miehistä tai elämästä. Muutama hyvä novelli löytyi muiden huonojen seasta ja ne tietysti sitten erottui selkeesti. Kokonaisuudessaan tää oli vaan tylsä. En lue tätä uudestaan enkä voi suosittella :(

Kekseliäitä lyhyitä novelleja erilaisista, hieman erikoisista ihmisistä ja heidän ajatuksistaan. En aina saanut kiinni novellien perimmäisistä tarkoituksista tai ymmärtänyt, mitä niissä tapahtui, mutta pidin silti lukemastani ja Castillonin tyylistä kirjoittaa.

Kuplissa ei yltänyt Äidin pikku pyövelin tasolle, joka oli erinomainen, mutta voin silti suositella tutustumaan myös tähän novellikokoelmaan.

At first I was surprised to find that the book revolved around different women (I'm not the type that browses through the book or checks the names of chapters before getting started), and, true to my character, I immediately started to doubt whether I was going to like this experience or not - I was expecting viewpoints I intentionally refuse to accept; so, I viewed this book through over-criticizing goggles that were ready to catch on.. anything that bothers me.

I ended up enjoying this book way too much, loving the twisted minds of overly humane characters, that felt both true and impossible at the same time, just like most people do - the experience was unbelievable, to put in one word, even though there's no doubt the feeling was at least partly caused by the fact I was caught by such complete surprise. Definitely going to check out more of Castillon's books, and soon. We'll see if she'll manage to catch me again.

Like Insecte, this too consisted of short stories about relationships. Castillon uses a lot of black humor, cruelty even but reading this right after Insecte, it got a little numbing and irritating. Not all stories worked even though there were some that made me laugh out loud.

Kuplakokoelma on täynnä niin häijyjä juttuja, että niihin pystyvät vain ranskalaiset. Tyyli on tuttu Äidin pikku pyövelistä – tai jo oikeastaan Ranskan hovista. Kerrotaan, että hovielämän koukeroissa menestyivät vain ne, jotka saivat sanottua asiansa tiiviisti ja nokkelasti.

Claire Castillonin novellit ovat tälläkin kertaa lyhyitä, iskeviä ja julmia. Kussakin on minäkertojana äänessä jollakin tavalla vinksahtanut henkilö, joka ei näe kuplansa ulkopuolelle. Muistaakseni vain yhdessä novellissa (joka muuten kertoo lempimisestä matoja kuhisevan matkamuistolampaantaljan päällä) oli ulkopuolinen kertoja, vaikka siinäkin näkökulma oli selvästi toisen päähenkilön. Aiheet ovat eri tavoin sopimattomia jopa pariisilaisille, tai ainakin arvelen, että on haluttu järkyttää. Mitään liian traumatisoivaa ei kuitenkaan ole mukana, joten lukiessa voi mukavasti kohotella kulmakarvoja ja huokailla oh là là.

Achtentwintig portretten. Verhalen die elkaar geruisloos opvolgen. Grappig of wrang. Luchtig en fris. Of hard en confronterend. Met een vlijmscherpe pen legt Claire Castillon een spiegel bloot. In die spiegel maakt de lezer kennis met het fenomeen mens. Een plezier om te lezen. En misschien nog een groter plezier om voorgelezen (verteld) te worden.

Äidin pikku pyöveliä ei voiteta millään, mutta joukkoon mahtui hyviä ja oivaltavia, tuttuun tapaan ihanan vinksahtaneita ihmissuhdekuvauksia. Aiemmissa kokoelmissa käytettyjen kikkojen toistaminen latisti tekstiä paikoitellen, ja muutaman tarinan kohdalla kierrättämisen maku oli suorastaan häiritsevän selvä.

Kuplissa toimi minulle kuten muutkin Castillonin novellikokoelmista. Pidin muutamista teksteistä todella paljon. Niiden vastapainoksi aika liuta muita tuntui vähän sellaiselta harmaalta massalta, josta ei jäänyt kunnon mielikuvaa. Yhtä kaikki luen Castillonin novelleja aina niiden muutaman erityisen tekstin vuoksi.

Varsin erikoisia pikku novelleja, osa oikeinkin hyviä. Kaikenlaisia hulluja Castillon onkin keksinyt.. Toisia kävi sääliksi, toisia ei niinkään. Ensimmäinen Castillonini minulle. Saa nähdä, tuleeko toista.

Joo ei. Ihan hauskoja aluksi, mutta vähän ennen puolta väliä totesin että antaa olla. Kyllä ne aiemmat kokoelmat olivat paljon parempia ja monipuolisempia jotenkin, tämä jäi jotenkin jahkaamaan.

Encore un avis mitigé sur ce recueil de nouvelles. Certaines m'ont plu, d'autres pas du tout. J'ai aimé le côté grinçant de certaines nouvelles, mais je n'ai pas plus accroché que ça.

Entertaining stories

I like to read short stories when I don't have time or mental bandwidth to read full novel or I need something bite-sized to read along with a heavy novel. Claire Castillons short stories fill that niche well enough but to be honest, having finished this collection I remember maybe a handful of short stories in it and the rest just blend in with each other. They don't really stand out. They're all just gritty stories about relationships and they get repetitive.
