When he caught her eyes, he spoke. “If you let me in, poppet, even a little bit, I’ll prove it to you. I promise you, I’ll make you understand. This, whatever it is, and we both feel it, is right.”
“She won’t mind?” Belle’s sweet voice had grown louder. “She’s your Mum. How could she not mind that I came to her birthday party with one brother and spent the night with the other?”
“Belle –” Jack tried to break in but she was struggling again in his arms.
“She’s going to think I’m a slut.” Belle’s eyes had left his and she was muttering with agitation as she fought his hold on her. “And rude,” she added and then finished with hilarious melodrama. “Oh my God. She’s going to think I’m rude slut!”
“Oh my God!” Rachel shouted. “You two have been fooling around!”
Belle’s body gave a surprised jerk as she felt Jack’s go solid behind her.
Mom wasn’t finished. “You’re fooling around with my daughter while there are ghosts in the house!” she accused Jack as if this was an act akin to rounding up innocent citizens randomly in order to torture them just for kicks.
And
“She’s mooning over Jack,” Gram informed Mom.
“Lots to moon over,” Mom commented. “The man’s got a fantastic behind.”
Gram turned from the window, looked at Mom and shared, “I like his hands.”
Mom grinned. “Yeah, he’s got great hands. And, from Belle’s look this afternoon, I’m guessing he knows how to use them.”
“Mom!” Belle snapped as she walked from the window and threw herself on the bed in front of her mother. She rolled to her back and her mother leaned over her.
“It’s just my way of saying I’m happy for you, honeypot.”

Another fantastic KA book, that I read with my fellow KA connoisseurs Jessica, Robin and Stephanie.
Jack, however, was not the kind of man who spent a great deal of time considering his actions.
So he didn’t.
She simply was who she was, all of who she was.
And Jack liked it, all of it.
And he wanted it.
So he took it.
But also, he was going to keep it because now it was his.
I’m a sucker for instant chemistry and attraction, and this book had it in spades! The intensity of Belle and James/Jack’s attraction was FANTASTIC.
When he caught her eyes, he spoke. “If you let me in, poppet, even a little bit, I’ll prove it to you. I promise you, I’ll make you understand. This, whatever it is, and we both feel it, is right.
Circumstances brought them together, teared them apart again, and luckily gave them a second chance at happiness. I must admit at first I was a bit hesitant of the reason why Belle and Jack had a second chance at their romance, but as the story progressed you could feel the depth of the connection between these two.
“After last night, Belle, I need my sleep. I still want you to wake me up.”
“Why?” she asked.
“It doesn’t matter why,” he returned and his hand came up, tangling in her hair then he went on to command. “Just wake me, kiss me, tell me good fucking morning and then you can get out of bed.”
“Oh… kay,” she replied hesitantly but not happily. Most of his demands were bossy, definitely, but also somehow sweet. This one was just weird and very concerning. She dropped her eyes to his shoulder and felt her stomach clench. His hand tugged gently at her hair, her gaze went back to his and she saw his face had gone soft.
“I’ll get used to it, having you,” he explained and his voice had gone soft too. “Right now, I’m not used to it.”
I absolutely LOVED Jack. Right from the start. I loved how he called Belle “Poppet”, and I loved how protective he was over her when they first met, and then again after they reconnected. He was yet again the perfect example of a KA hero.
“Poppet,” he said. “If you don’t like the idea of people knowing about us yet then I don’t like the idea of you roaming the halls in the morning looking like you’ve been thoroughly fucked.”
“It’s a good look,” Jack went on, his eyes smiling again as he watched her face. “But it’s my look. I gave it to you. I’m the only one who gets to see it.”
^ That just there is why I can’t get enough of the heroes KA writes. No one writes heroes like KA. They are bossy, dominating, possessive, loving and just plain dreamy.
Belle was the typical KA heroine – cute and sweet, and sometimes sassy. And I loved her and Jack together.
Of course it can’t be a KA book without the wonderful secondary characters. The wilful grandmother; the slightly flaky mother and father; the looney, but nice ex-girlfriend; the evil brother and ex-husband; the ghost hunter Angus McPherson and Cassandra, the white witch (whom also appeared in Penmort Castle). And of course the introduction of 2 new ghost hunters, the twins Lachlan and Lorna McPherson.
I really enjoyed the storyline in this book: the 2 ghost children, who’s been haunting the castle for 200 years, and are unable to move on. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot in this book, and finding out who the bad people were, and why the children have been haunting Chy An Als Point.
Another fantastic book by KA. This has really been a wonderful series, and I can’t wait for the next book which I’m hoping will be Lachlan and Emma’s.
