I may have listened to this before as it was on my shelf since 2012. However, it wasn't rated so I downloaded it for a quick listen now.
Madiera Shane is a female "Bond"-like independent agent. She generally works on the quiet for government agencies, stepping in when discretion is important. Her skills are in high demand particularly when the evidence is sensitive as it is in this situation where the murder victim was a renowned hacker who might have uncovered secrets that should remain covered... or at least not be publicized.
Madiera inspects the body and slips out before the police arrive. But then she runs into trouble in the form of a handsome rival. The two have tangled before but this is no time for distraction. Madiera has to escape the rival more than once, as well as bullets aimed her way.
I enjoyed the fast paced action and sensual banter. The rival is not particularly likeable but Madiera has to fight off a natural attraction to the shared adrenaline highs.
The story, although short at just over one hour, is complete with mystery, danger, tension and resolution. I really liked Madiera's espionage character and would have liked to read a fuller story with her but I do not see any available. Still, I have another couple of titles by Michele Hauf and I will add them to my reading list for 2017.
Audio Notes: Debbie Irwin does a good job narrating this with a clear, sharp voice. She manages the nuances and the intensity well.
