L Davies has been besotted with Ash Rata ever since he walked into her high school class twelve years ago. She just never thought he'd be interested in her, due to her being intersex. Mistakenly brought up as a boy, L has transformed over the years into a stunning woman, and has accumulated a devoted following after becoming the lead guitarist for Ash's brother, the infamous Dante. But although she has a legion of fans, all she wants is Ash, loving him unconditionally, yet resigned to being friend-zoned forever. Until, out of frustration and desperation, she takes Dante's advice, stripping for Ash, both literally and emotionally, baring her soul to him, desperate for his acceptance and love.
Clueless to L's infatuation, Ash is left dumbstruck by her advances. Although he loves L as a friend, he soon realises there's more behind his feelings than simple friendship. After he gives in to those feelings, allowing L to seduce him, he quickly discovers that his moment of weakness wasn't private, his boarder having installed hidden cameras in his room. The sex tape is uploaded onto the internet and goes viral. The media frenzy that ensues throws Ash into the limelight, one that's intent on ripping him and L apart, as well as losing him access to his son, his ex using their eleven-year-old as a means to win him back. Though, Ash's ex becomes the least of his worries when a monster from his and L's past walks back into their lives.
I'm a New Zealander from Auckland, with dual citizenship (NZ and Croatia). I've also lived in Kerikeri, Singapore and Papua New Guinea.
CAREER PATH: I started off as a Graphic Designer, then went to Auckland University, where I got a BA degree in Art History and Italian Studies and a post-graduate Honors degree in Art History. I worked in the Art History field, then became a full-time artist, doing commissions. I eventually lost all of my senses and gave it up to be a self-published writer, publishing my first book in 2011. Though, earlier in 2023 I returned to art, shelving being a writer since book pirates made it impossible to earn a living from my work, excessively pirating my books. They basically broke my spirit. However, a very nice reader spurred me on to try again, so I'm attempting to revive my writing career.
BAD HABITS: I'm a major procrastinator, I stay up way too late, and I get distracted far too easily unless it's doing something I love. My mind never stops racing, can't turn ADHD off.
SPORTS: As a teenager my favourite sports were karate, badminton, and running. I also did unarmed combat and played in a touch rugby team (my gym teacher made me do the last one!) As an adult, I've couched soccer and have completed two marathons, numerous half-marathons and one 30K run, though I stick to the gym now, hanging up my running shoes.
STATUS: Married to my high school sweetheart (which he hates me calling him). We have two kids.
With wide eyes, L pushed me onto my bed, draping her naked body over my clothed one. She lowered her head, kissing me softly, almost timidly, as though she was afraid I would push her away. But I didn’t. Instead, I opened my mouth up for her, flicking my tongue over her lips, encouraging her to open up for me too. She let out a little noise, a cross between a moan and a squeak, then parted her lips, letting me in, tempting me right back. I groaned and grabbed her head, my self-control and worry over destroying our friendship disappearing as we connected in another way, something I’d thought would never happen with L.
She let out another squeak, but didn’t back away, instead kissing me with so much passion our teeth clashed. Her hands went to my head, her fingers tangling with my messy hair, our friendship all but forgotten, something more primal taking over.
She broke the kiss first, only to pepper more kisses over my face, a little sob breaking free from her lips. “I love you so much, Ash. Have always loved you.” She kissed the tattoo on my neck, lifting my chin so she could run her lips over every inch of it. And I let her, having no intention of stopping her like I’d stopped Kara.

Ashes to Ashes by Marita A Hansen. A brilliant read. I liked the story. I liked some of the characters. Some characters I didn't like. Ant and Kara. 5*.
Wow the prequel to this book Crying out silent I was blown away by and thought that it was unlikely this book would top that but wow! This story will make you laugh and cry and is yet again painfully but beautifully written account of L and her life as an intersex and her love for Ash which is finally out in the open. Can L finally have everything she wants as finally as things come together a face from her past tries to ruin her happiness. It’s a beautiful read.
Feliz, feliz, feliz!!!!!! Por fin L y Ash están juntos!!!!. El libro tiene de todo romance, acción, drama, sexo y las páginas fluyen sin poder parar de leer.
Ashes to Ashes picks up 12 years after the prequel, Crying Out Silent. Whilst this can be read as a standalone story and gives very brief background recaps, enough to make sense of the circumstances, I feel it is definitely better to have read the prequel first as that makes Ashes to Ashes a more complete story.
Ash Rata can’t believe his eyes when L Davies walks back into his life. The broken schoolboy, Llewelyn, is now a beautiful woman, L. Intersex but brought up as a boy, L is living life as a female and is a successful, famous musician currently playing lead guitar in a rock band with Ash’s brother, Dante. She is still madly in love with Ash but can he overcome their past and see her as anything other than that boy that he had a deep connection with?
Definitely a love story, but an unconventional one that deals with some difficult issues. I couldn’t help but find myself really wanting L to get her happy ending and for Ash to make peace with himself at last.
This is not a book for the faint hearted it has lots of swearing and some sex scenes but it is so worth the read, I had read the prequel to this book some time ago but it was one that stuck in my mind and I couldn't wait to read this book. I wasn't disappointed, if anything is was even better than the first book. L is intersex and has never come to quite accept her body but now she is a member of Dante's very sucessful group she is amazed at how many fans she has but there has always been just one man for her even though he has no idea how deeply she feels. When Dante's brother Ash joins the recording studio L is beside herself and feels she needs to tell Ash how she feels but it doesn't go as smooth as she would have liked. Will she ever win over the only man for her ? she takes extreme methods and when a recording of the showdown reaches the internet L doesn't know who to trust.
I received a copy of this book from TBC Reviewers request- Thank you An unconventional love story that finally gets its happy ending. A lovely quick read that was just the right side of smutty 😉 just enough but not too much A fab read – thank you
YAY L AND ASH ❤️❤️ I want to go re-read it now that I finished bec reading about L and Ash was so cute and wholesome (even though it kinda wasn’t). L is such a sweetheart and the way Ash treats her and is when he’s around her is so adorable 😭 I’m glad he admitted to having feeling for her before when she was leaving. It was so sad to hear about how L was close to giving up but came to New Zealand to be around Ash to try and be happy. I love them together, so cute and perfect.
Also loved hearing about Lily too (and her favourite toy lol) and love any chance to hear about Mrs. Connor, the woman such a sweetheart (can’t wait for her story).
I also am so curious as to Dereks interest in Jade. Tane and Jade just don’t feel right together but I hope he ends up with someone who has him as their number 1 or does some soul searching since he gets pretty obsessed. I loved Murderer and Killers Cameo. Murderer calling Ash son (❤️) and stepping back so he didn’t hurt him, and Killers loyalty to Tane is the best. I hope Killer sorts his shit out so that Tane ends up with Killer because Tane and Jade together just won’t ever feel right. And Pain not coming out anymore because of it was heartbreaking to hear.
Also NIKE AND JESS. That made me want to cry. They need their story told somewhere because they both deserve to be happy :(. It’s heartbreaking that their love and life is being affected by circumstances that weren’t their doing and I hope they get a happily ever after.
Also do we ever get to find out what happened to L’s number in Ash’s phone? Did it really just disappear or did Tiana or Hunter delete it so that he’d never have a line to L. Just curious.

I had read the prequel to this, Crying Out Silent, which was a thoughtful book about someone who is intersex, violently bullied at school, who falls in love with someone they don't believe they can ever care for them. Although this book is an easy read and moves along at a pace I found it a little bit unbelievable for my tastes. The main character is an incredibly talented and successful musician/rock star, impossibly beautiful, impossibly talented at everything they do. The two Rata brothers are impossibly gorgeous and sexy and everyone who comes across them seems to want them. There is quite a lot of graphic sex - which may or may not be to your taste. Most of the characters are completely two dimensional and a little comic book, especially the villain. It's an easy read but not one that I will remember.
I liked the idea and premise of this book. The cute love story between L and Ash was great. What I hated though is the author’s way of writing, her grammar. It almost made the book unreadable. I’ve read Dante and Claras story, and liked that a little more though. Same type of writing or course, but for some reason, I just liked their story line a little more. This one, with all the trouble with Ant and Ash randomly becoming famous, etc, was just kind of annoying to me. Cute but not the greatest.

I read "Crying out Silent" and loved it. I'm not sure why I didn't like this one as much. I know there are other novels with some of the same characters, perhaps they would have given a better backstory? I felt somewhat disconnected from the main characters, as though I had missed some key events that would have explained how they got from "Crying Out Silent" to this one.
