Having lived and worked in London for several years, Emily returned to her home town of Hastings where she writes full-time. She’s a member of the SoA, an Amazon bestseller and a Kindle All Star. When not writing, Emily says she can be found enjoying the stunning East Sussex coast and countryside, but she’s more likely to be found with friends, enjoying a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, and definitely some cake. Emily has two mischievous rescue cats, Beatrix and Portia, who like to sprawl across her keyboard, regardless of whether Emily is typing on it, or not.
Things get very complicated and a bit farcical but overall things ended up where they should be. The H and the h are cute together and they are both crazy about each other. The secondary romance is sweet and both sides behave the way you'd want a couple falling in love to behave.
If you are sensitive to cheating, this isn't the book for you.
1. The H has sex with the h while he is on his stag weekend. He doesn't entirely make up his mind to leave his fiancée until after he sleeps with the h (in the sense that he finally has an epiphany rather than him making a cold-blooded decision -- he's not a quick study and actually isn't sure how he ended up engaged in the first place).
2. The h's ex-husband cheated and the readers are treated to a scene where he is waiting for the h to show up and hoping the h will reconcile with him, but suddenly gets distracted and turned on by the idea of having sex again with his ex-affair partner. It is REALLY off-putting.

Oh my goodness! Have you ever seen the cover of a book and just knew you'd love it? That's just what happened when I saw the cover for Highland Fling (not the cover shown here for some strange reason!) Then I read the little intro "blurb" and just HAD to read it! I'm so glad I did! In the words of Larry the Cucumber, "I laughed, I cried, it moved me!" LOL! Even as I type this review on my phone using the Goodreads app I'm all aglow and smiley! ;-)
Highland Fling is as delightful a book as its title assures. It inspires uncontrollable giggles by the second chapter or so, makes you mad as a hatter in the middle, has you tearful and longing near the end and keeps you entertained throughout!
About 3/4 of the way through the book I realize that it's a modern day Scottish version of Sense and Sensibly...sort of! LOL! You have a displaced heroin, men on a stag party being...well, men! Misunderstandings left and right, cases of mistaken identify and hilarity abound! So much fun!!! :-)
This is a define read if you're wanting something lighthearted and hysterical!
Enjoy! ;-)

This was a light hearted look at the complications that arise from a series of misunderstandings, not saying what you want to say, not saying what you should saying and not saying anything at all.
The story is mostly from Lizzie and Jack’s points of view, although we do see if from the supporting characters, sometimes one person at a time and sometimes from a multitude.
The reader was always kept informed of what is going on, even if the characters didn’t necessarily know. This often added to the tension and at times made me want to knock their heads together and shout things like ‘Oh, why didn’t you just listen to what was actually said?’ or ‘Just spit it out, say it!’ The plot twisted and turned its way over several weeks with a subtle rom com sort of feel to it.
I was glad that Lizzie found an inner strength to face up to certain things. Jane was a very good BBF and although Max was the villain, I quite liked him really. One of my favourties was Iain Hamilton – I found him quietly interesting and appealing. Jack was a bit of a tortured soul who just wanted to do the right thing but found it wasn’t always what his heart wanted. I liked his mates, they were fun and supportive but in that blokey sort of way.
An enjoyable and easy read about a group of people who found their lives closely entwined, in ways they didn’t think possible, with surprising outcomes.
Well, once I saw the cover of Emily Harvale's Highland Fling, I knew I was going to enjoy it! This was a warm and witty romance. The story is mostly from Lizzie and Jack’s point of view, but we do see extracts from the supporting characters. The novel centres around a stag weekend in Scotland. Most of the characters live in London so the story takes you there, too. Lizzie runs a B&B in the Scottish Highlands after fleeing London when her husband, Max had an affair. But is she over him and advice from her best friend Jane who is unable to sort out her own love life does not help matters. Max wants Lizzie back but she trust him?

Then we have forty-five year old farmer, Iain Hamilton who said that he would never marry again, but he can't stop thinking about a woman from London.
When Jack and his friends arrive at Lizzie’s B&B for a long weekend, love seems to be on everyone’s mind but with plenty of plots and twists, more than one person is in for a surprise.

As soon as there was a discussion as to the 'merits' of cheating (or at least cheating within the circumstances of this book) I knew I wouldn't particularly like it. You can dress it up however much you want cheating is still wrong. I cannot understand the mentality (even when it is explained to me, in detail, like in this book) behind it at all - and due to this is made it very difficult for me to actually like the leads (or anyone else who knew what they were doing but didn't seem to think it mattered).
This reminded me very much of a Rom-Com, you have mistaken identities, meanings etcetera. Unfortunately because all of this was soured by the cheating I ended up rolling my eyes and really not caring that surely someone with common sense would turn around and say "No I'm sure it was X that got married not Y, I heard them say X so why are you thinking it is Y" (whereas everyone in the book seemed to just assume that they hear names wrong.... all. the. time!).
The book is well written though, just not my cup of tea.
A lovely little Chicklit book. Not sure how I came across it - it may have been a recommendation from someone, but I am glad I downloaded and read it. This is very much a fun read, however, there are plenty of misunderstandings - sometimes I got a little irritated by them - but I enjoyed all the characters. I always love a dog in a story. He didn't play too much of a part, but it was nice to know he was there and the characters were relatable. Of course 6 boys on a stag weekend would always have disastrous consequences but this bunch turned out to be very likable. I enjoyed this book very much. It is definitely not a deep thought provoking book, but light and lots of fun. I liked it so much I have downloaded her next book which features characters from this book.
I read Highland Fling whilst recovering from a virus this month and it was just what the doctor ordered - a feel good romance, set in my favourite part of the world. I liked all the characters, especially the best friend Jane, who I think deserves a novel of her own. I must agree with another reviewer - I found Max villainous but intriguing. (I always love a bad boy in a romance. I will enjoy reading this author's second novel LIZZIE MARSHALL'S WEDDING in the fullness of time. If I hadn't already bought Highland Fling I would certainly have gone for the double kindle bundle: A PAIR OF ROMANTIC COMEDIES.
This is a light-hearted and very enjoyable romance with some great characters and wonderful settings. The dialogue is sharp and compelling and the descriptions of the Scottish landscape magical. All the main characters are well-developed but I found myself falling for Max in particular, even though he's the anti-hero. The plot twists and turns its way through misunderstandings and unexpected events to a satisfyingly happy ending.
A warm, contemporary romance, this was an enjoyable and fun read. Emily Harvale surrounds us with a good cast of characters (Iain and Alastair get a definite thumbs up) and it's set in Scotland, which is always a winner for me. :) Relationship misunderstandings and human frailties keep the story interesting right until the end.
This is a lovely book that charmed me completely! The writing is effortless, the cast of characters lovable and the highland setting, stunning. After misunderstandings galore, all loose threads are tied up nicely with a final chapter that is hilarious. A very good debut.
5*'s because it is a delightfull read. The main characters of Lizzie Marshall and Jack Drake have wonderfull chemistry. The description of the landscape the story is set in paints a wonderfull backdrop to a lovely tale of love blossoming at first sight
A very enjoyable read, plenty of confusion between the characters with some good laughs included. I will look forward to reading an Emily Harvale again
Another fantastic book from Emily and one more off my tick list. Loved the characters as always and the way you get so involved you become part of the story. The only mistake I made was reading this after Lizzie Marshall's wedding, but I enjoyed it just the same.
This is a new must-read author for me. It has been a long time since I read a chick lit book that grabbed me. I am planning to read the rest of her books!
