Fractured Facade

Rate this book
“It wasn’t the middle of the night phone call that everyone dreads. It was a middle of the day phone call that nobody expects…“I just got a call from a detective. Daddy’s dead.” And when that crestfallen conversation with my brother came to an end, so did my tranquil way of life.

When I rushed out of Roanoke, Virginia and arrived at the family home in Brooklyn, New York, I never imagined the scene I discovered, nor the acts of betrayal I encountered.

The more I sought answers about my dad’s mysterious death, the more my suspicions became aroused concerning my father’s ex-girlfriend. I couldn’t believe how oblivious so many people had been, and continued to be, to the wily ways of that con artist. Inheriting dad’s scheming sociopath became a journey I never imagined I’d be forced to travel.” — Marie DeLuca

Written as memoir, and based on a true story, "Fractured Facade" is a cautionary tale for anyone concerned about an elderly parent who has lost their spouse. In an effort to combat their depression and seek comfort, the surviving spouse may find themselves thrust into an unfamiliar dating world, one quite different from the era of their youth, and sometimes one where cunning people create facades to mask their true intentions. Sadly, loneliness can cause an otherwise intelligent person to behave foolishly. So does anger. I hope folks will learn from my mistakes so they don’t make them.

"Fractured Facade" is the tale of a father’s death, a daughter’s life, and a sociopath’s vendetta.

Another book that I downloaded for free a number of years ago (2012) and have only got round to reading it now.

The book is written as a memoir and is based on a true story - as unbelievable as it sounds - you really find yourself asking "This can't have happened, surely?".

It totally draws you in. You can see the places (Brooklyn and Roanake) as the author, Elena DeRosa, describes them beautifully, as well as the characters themselves.

It is a book that has you cheering and also yelling WTAF and although it does have some religious aspects to it, there were not enough to make this non believer roll their eyes and give up on it. I was left despairing at the lack of justice and truly left wondering at the incompetence of the Police and Patholgists, feeling so much sympathy for Marie DeLuca who seemed to have so much legal things to deal with at a time that she should of been allowed to grieve.

Truly a warning to all widows/widowers and their families to be on guard whenever a love interest enters their lives and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this.

Good family mystery and message

Wow! What a message to all widows and widowers! You hear things, but this true accounting of what The Evil One did to her father, and then to her family, is horrendous. And the lack of professionalism in the government employees brings to light the many stories I have heard of their work attitude...obviously not all of them.

What DOES it take for them to care enough about what is happening to our elderly? Something needs to change and I hope this book does.

This reads like a true story. It is written in the form of a memoir of a woman who's old father, a widower, falls prey to a conniving money grabber. When he dies under suspicious circumstances his daughter and her brother try to get find out how he died and if the girl friend had anything to do with it.
A good quick read.

Local writer, Roanoke by way of Brooklyn. Excellent story, well told and you want to hug her and smack her nemesis. Good read!

Excellent writing

I would highly recommend this book. Elena writes from the heart. A page Turner from the very first page. Totally takes you in.

This was a free kindle download, but I couldn't get past the 25% mark. I thought it was boring and poorly written.
