Malachi: A Love That Never Lets Go - Member Book is an 8 session women's Bible study on the book of Malachi. Lisa Harper's first video Bible study with LifeWay focuses on God's mercy. On our worst day, God doesn't walk away from us. And His love for us is not determined by our performance. No matter how many times we mess up, God loves (and never leaves) broken people. "I the LORD do not change" Malachi 3:6 Women taking this Bible study will gain a fresh perspective on the Book of Malachi. It is more than a book in the Bible about tithing. Lisa brings the Scripture to life through dynamic storytelling.
Lisa Harper is a hilarious storyteller and theological scholar―a gifted communicator whose writing and speaking overflows with colorful, pop-culture references that connect the dots between the Bible era and modern life. “Her God-given ability to not merely teach the Word but package it in a way that stirs the heart and calls to action is incomparable” says Priscilla Shirer. For six years Lisa served as the director of Focus on the Family's national women's ministry where she created the popular Renewing the Heart conferences. The next six years found her serving on the local level as the women's ministry director at a large church in Nashville. As the author of eleven books, and a Masters of Theological Studies with honors from Covenant Seminary, she is now a sought-after Bible teacher and speaker. Lisa was on the Women of Faith national arena tour and speaks at many other large events as well as at hundreds of churches all over the world. Lisa describes her greatest accomplishment to date as getting to be Missy’s mama.
I think I've just gotten too spoiled with Beth Moore studies. I thoroughly enjoyed all of Lisa's anecdotes and the video sessions are laugh-out-loud funny mixed with moments where you need those tissues handy. But the homework sessions just didn't make me feel like I got anything out of the book of Malachi. I got the gist of her teaching from the first video session...I didn't feel like I learned much of anything else afterwards, merely her repeating herself. I'm definitely ready for something more challenging and where I feel like I'm learning something.
This is not the best commentary one could use on Malachi. Her take on it as a play with acts and scenes is interesting. But her treatment of the material is too fluffy. Malachi is a hard hitting final message to Israel from an angry God. They will not hear from Him again for four hundred years. Lisa needed to come down harder on sin and apathy in the believer's life.
Lisa is at times very funny as she tells different stories and antidotes. My favorite verses are Malachi 3:8-12. We should never rob God in our tithes and offerings. If we give God will bless us abundantly.
Lisa Harper never disappoints. Good study in a more obscure book. she wove in tear jerking stories and thought provoking questions. I loved the video that supported the study.
It is a great study for new Christians. Provides several scripture references and helpful questions. However, Lisa Harper does not dive very deep into scripture.
I enjoyed this study on Malachi and the raw vulnerability of Harper in this book. It is not deep, but still shows the beautiful of God's faithfulness to those who love Him.
