Ten tales of lesbian adventure take you from the far reaches of the galaxy to the science fiction convention down the road, from a steampunk west to a world where the Confederacy got nukes. Come along and fall in love with a waitress or a pirate or Medusa herself.
Adventuresses is a collection of fantasy/science-fiction/horror lesbian erotica, written by Angelia Sparrow, before coming out as Nick Rowan.
The settings range from Steampunk to space opera to zombie apocalypse to myth/faerie tale. There were some really great characters here. The four-armed mutant gunslinger from "That Time They Talk About" was a fun concept, set in a world were the Confederate states had developed nuclear weapons and unleashed a spreading plague of mutation on the Old West.
I also loved Yolanda, the tough truck driver who appears in a trilogy of stories, the first two real-world romance before taking a detour into zombie apocalypse horror for the third.
My favorite of the collection, though, was the last, a romance between Rapunzel and Medusa that spans centuries of myth and history.
The details are spot-on, whether describing a big rig, science fiction medical technology, the worship of the Greek gods, or steampunk bondage gear for a public scene at a convention.
Sex is going to be a matter of readers' personal interest. There are sex scenes in all but one of the stories, and they are described with the high level of enthusiasm for detail found in other aspects of the stories. The author is careful about the issue of consent, which I appreciated. A couple of the stories had minimal plot around the sex scene, but most had quite a bit of plot and character development outside of the bedroom, and I very much enjoyed this collection for the variety of speculative stories and settings in addition to the overall theme of the book.
