I've finished reading it. The two people weren't debating opposing viewpoints; rather, their discussion served to complement what was missing in Western thought and Buddhism, respectively. The vast majority of the conversation focused on how Buddhism filled the void left by the West (where philosophical discussion on the fundamental essence of human life has been largely absent for years).
Since it's about complementarity, there's no need to argue about which is superior. As a reader, naturally, I'm not choosing one over the other—I'll take both!
On one hand, I can accept the benefits that scientific development brings to daily life without any psychological barrier. On the other hand, I can reduce the importance of the "self" and understand that excessive desire will cloud my mind and lead to many troubles.
Therefore, I can fully embrace a healthy, simple life. Whether through vegetarianism or minimalism, these are all expressions of this lifestyle, and everyone can find the method that suits them best.
