King Englewood is dead. Logan Lassain, the Protector of Ter Chadain, has cleared the way for his sister, Teah, to claim the throne as the rightful Queen of Ter Chadain and cast out the invading Caltorian forces. But Teah cannot claim that throne. She is captive on a slave ship sailing to Caltoria with other magical slaves to have their fates decided by the evil Empress of Caltoria. With Logan in pursuit to free her, Teah must keep her identity as rightful Queen of Ter Chadain hidden until she can escape. As a slave, Teah’s magical powers are withheld from her by an ancient gemstone placed on her forehead called a “soul stone”. The clear gem darkens in color once placed upon a magical’s forehead indicating the strength of their magic. Teah’s stone darkens to a deep black marking her as the strongest magical in Caltoria since her ancestor, the first Queen of Ter Chadain. This draws unwanted attention and puts her future in great peril. Logan and his small band of rescuers must hurry. Their quest is difficult. The cost is high. New allies are found. Old friends are lost…forever. Risking death at every turn, they rush to rescue Teah. But the only way Logan can save Teah and keep Ter Chadain from falling under Caltorian rule is by not only risking death, but risking something more precious…his freedom.
(Wait……..what? What just happened? I’m crushed right now!! …. and not sure how I’m supposed to go on ….)
Okay, since this shock that I’m feeling won’t go away anytime soon, I will say that aside from my heart having just been ripped from my chest – I absolutely loved this book! And like the first book, this starts immediately and lets up on the last sentence with no lagging in-between.
(There is however some breath holding, brow furrowing anger and some slack jawed shock to be had)
In Black Stones, the adventure continues with Logan and Teah, who have grown up quite a bit since they first stumbled into our lives, and while they still make mistakes along the way, they work hard at fixing them. They are still trying to get Teah on the throne and this time we’re taken on the high seas to a land with an evil little queen (tyrant) who tries her hardest to make everyone’s lives miserable.
When I picked this sequel to Reclaiming Ter Chadain, I really had no expectations to which way it would go – even though I knew how I wanted it to. But, either way I knew it would be good – I just wasn’t expecting it to be THIS good – I’m impressed all over again since we don’t read the story, we experience it. I know I don’t do this series justice with my review (there are just too many things that I think would spoil it if I said them) so let me say this; this is the PERFECT book for those who like YA, adventure, magic, swords and tiny bits of romance too.
Go and get these books – I promise you’ll love them – this is such an awesome adventure!
*sigh* it's going to be hard to wait book 3 **LOVE the cover!
Wow. Wow. C.S. Yelle has managed to do that, wow me, yet again. Black Stones of Ter Chadain, book 2 in the Protector of Ter Chadain series, captivated me even more so that book 1 in the series. The fantastical aspects of the story just got better, and the characters drew me in even further. Wow.
The fact that a fantasy novel drew me in is a great feat. Having both the first and second book draw me in? Amazing, especially since I am not big on modern fantasy novels. This book, like it's predecessor, is indeed a true fantasy novel.
I found myself attached to many of the characters, and felt great happiness and great loss at the circumstances surrounding them.
Black Stones started off not far from where Reclaiming Ter Chadain ended, and I felt as if I weree sucked back into the kingdom. Where Logan and Teah went I went. I found myself actually resisting the temptation to read throughout the night just to soak in the events that were presented to me in the novel.
One thing is certain, C.S. Yelle has created something special. I am proud to be able to read his words, and I happy that I got the chance to dwell in his fantastical kingdoms if even for a while.
No need to drag it out, I gave this book, like book 1, five stars. This is a series worth investing in, and one I'm sure, after you read it's pages, you'll treasure. I also guarantee that the ending of each book will have you yearning for the next, because it definitely will.
In this sequel to Reclaiming Ter Chadain, the battle rages on for the kingdom and the twins’quest for the rightful heir to the throne continue. The first book set the bar and the second did not disappoint. Somehow, the stakes are raised even higher. It’s hard to know if it’s because there is more action or if I did not really care so much about the kingdom when it was on the line in the first book, but when the magic of the characters is at stake, look out! We were introduced to many more characters this time. Seriously, how could I not love a character named Raven or Captain Morgan? Fantastic! When I discovered that everyone and anyone is expendable and can die at any moment, this book quickly became a page-turner I couldn’t put down.
It felt as though there were more battle scenes than the first. Is that even possible? The first seemed jam-packed with action. This time though the characters encountered monsters, more magical artifacts and even more obstacles. I just loved the monsters. Being in those cave and catacombs, I was reminded of Tom Sawyer and how claustrophobic I was then. Having red eyes peering at you through the dark was chilling good writing. This book may have been a little more gory than the first, but what do you expect when you’re battling monsters in the dark, travelling to the belly of the beast
Following on from where book one left off, the story picks up with Teah unable to claim her destiny and take the throne as the rightful Queen of Ter Chadain. Teah is been held on a slave ship, sailing to Caltoria with other magical slaves to have their fates determined by the evil Empress of Caltoria. Teah has no choice but to keep her true identity secret. As a slave Teah is stripped of her magical powers. When an ancient stone called a soul stone is placed on her forehead, it darkens to a deep black, marking her strongest magical in Caltoria since her ancestor the first Queen of Ter Chadain. This draws unwanted attention to Teah and puts her in great danger.
Logan the protector of Ter Chadain and a small band of rescuers, must hurry to save Teah, risking their lives and some will lose their lives in the quest. Will they be able to save Teah and Ter Chadain from falling under Caltorian rule?
The story is action packed with a huge cast of characters; lots of battles and destruction are packed into this book giving the reader a real quest of adventure that takes the reader along for the ride. A brilliant read for all fantasy fans.
I used to say I don't read Fantasy, not since I was a kid. Now, I have to say I follow a Fantasy series. CS Yelle has me invested in his world and how everyone is going to handle this latest net of setbacks. Like only great storytellers can do, Yelle had me alternately shaking my head and pumping my fist with the multiple plot twists and the growing pains of his characters. Breakneck speed and tons of characters don't leave a lot of breathing room but there were a few times when he let me slow down enough to breath. I should have learned by the middle of book 2, that means something huge is about to happen. Take a breath, hold on tight, another wave is on its way. Check this one out, you won't be disappointed.
Absolutely one of the most enjoyable books I have read. The action and the emotion from the characters is like having them in your own living room. An awesome book for teens and adults alike. A definite "take me to the beach" kinda book, or just curl up and get lost in a world where faith, love, honor and trust are the very roots of what keeps these young characters moving toward their destiny. Not only is the cover art beautifully done but the writer gives this book a heartbeat all its own. I would recommend this book to all my friends who enjoy suspense, drama, mystery and action. This series will NOT let you down.
I loved it . It was so exciting and full of emotions . When I pick it up , I cannot put it down . I read it in 5 sittings and that is a record for me . I liked this book even more than the first one . It failed to disappoint me .
I love Teah , Sasha and Saliday so much . There were many characters that I liked who died though , which is very sad . The characters are so detailed and they draw you in so much C.S Yelle has a great writing style and I love it . I also want to thank him for supplying me with a copy of the book .
The ending just always leaves you hanging and in suspense .
In the second book of this series, the story continues with Teah and her friends in the clutches of an unexpected enemy. Logan's goal to get his sister to the the throne is now intensified. He must first save her and bring her back. Unfortunately, they are all headed to Caltoria, where magicals, such as they are, are used as slaves to the Empress. I thought this book was even more action packed then the first. There were even more people introduced as the plot continued to unfold. Both books were wonderfully written and very descriptive. I cannot wait to get my hands on Book 3.
In this second book of the Protector of Ter Chadain series, I was instantly drawn by the beautiful cover. Not only does the story evolve and begin to give the reader even more of a foundation that begins in the first book but Teah and Logan begin to evolve and step into the shoes they are destined for. Legends and prophecies reveal a deeper meaning and the magic and action is still in wonderful abundance.
This book screams, 'What happens next?!?' Like its predecessor this is book is action packed and keeps you turning pages for fear and excitement of what's going to happen next. Deceit and betrayal are at every turn and you never know who you can trust. I absolutely cannot wait for the final book in this trilogy!
