Myth tells us that the cradle of civilisation was created and nurtured by the gods. History tells us that mankind developed along its own path, and that many ancient kings believed themselves to be gods and were revered as such.

But what if the truth were something in between?

This is the reality that master thief Greg Cross now finds himself facing. What started out as a simple job for a trusted associate has quickly spiralled into a race to uncover secrets hidden since the dawn of civilisation. A race between those who seek the truth in order to take the next step in mankind’s destiny, and those who wish to claim it for their own and use it to rebuild an empire lost to them millennia ago. It is a mission that Greg cannot deny his role in; because he now possesses an ancient power that is the key to unlocking the secret of the Nexus.

Allied with those who have fought all their lives to find and protect the truth, Greg must now learn to accept what he has become if he is to master it and survive the trials to come. For although he now embodies a potential seen in man long ago, his is not the only secret of the past to have resurfaced...

Just finished reading this novel and really enoyed it. A great cast of characters and a fascinating plot and plenty of action and information to hold my attention. I look forward to reading the next book.

Big fan of Moore's. While I like his more humorous works better, I enjoyed this read.

We are all familiar with the whip-wielding, snake-hating hero Indiana Jones, who first graced our screens in 1981 with The Raiders of the Lost Ark, a film that launched a franchise and gave us that thrill for adventure fiction! Along with character such as James Bond and John McClain, Indiana Jones sits in that category of plot-driven male protagonists who just won’t die and always have a witty one-liner up their sleeves to lob at the ladies and villains alike.

In Secret of the Nexus by C.P. Moore, we meet one such character: Greg Cross, by day a specialist security consultant but by night he is the master-thief known as Highwire. Without giving too much away, Cross is sent by a trusted associate to ‘retrieve’ an ancient tablet, however it seems he is not the only one after the tablet and during a fight with a fellow would-be-thief, he breaks the artefact and unknowingly absorbs its power. This leads him to a good vs. evil battle with a secret organization that might bring civilization to its knees. The adventure leads Cross to forgotten tombs, foreign lands and a fist-fight with a god trapped in human form.

It had a good premise and I’ve enjoyed the mythology background, but the second part of the book seemed to be rushed and not proofread properly, full of mistakes - both grammatical and punctuation. Shame.

An interesting story but definitely not one of Moore's best. The storyline is just nearly as imaginative as others like the vampire series or A Dirty job. I didn't find the characters or even the storyline, for that matter, compelling.

One thing that really bothered me about this book is that it has obviously been written or edited by someone in Great Britain due to the way that various words are spelled. Why is this? He's not a British writer. Regardless of the way these words are spelled though, this has to be the worst proofread book I have ever seen in print. Numerous typos made it look like it was edited by a 20 year old writing for some B-grade blog. What's up with that?

This is a great adventure story, that manages to add several twists and turns as it moves from one genre to another, almost seamlessly, until ending up firmly in Dan Brown's territory, albeit using religion from a much earlier time. Yet, unlike Mr Brown's most recent efforts, manages to include global travel without sounding like a travel or history guide.

Containing great complex characters, there would seem to be plenty of room for a sequel although I'd settle just from hearing more about the earlier exploits of 'highwire'.

Secret of the Nexus was a hard read for me. I really enjoy 'archaeology' books, but this one was dull and flat. I really did not get involved in the story -- it was as if I were being dragged through this book.

Outside of some questionable spelling and grammar, it was a pretty good story.

I liked the book - the plot and characters were engaging. Maybe since I'm a girl - I found all the fight scenes lasted too long - like in "They Live."
