The Narcoleptic Vampire #1

Sleepy Willow's Bonded Soul

Rate this book
Ever since vampirism became illegal, the undead have been hunted to near-extinction. So Willow has to watch her back to make sure no one finds out what she is. And that’s not easy considering she’s a vampire with narcolepsy. Predator can become prey at any moment, especially with the skillful Vampire Extermination Team (VET) on the job. Hoping to blend in with the nightlife, Willow takes advantage of being an animated corpse by performing for necrophiliacs at premiere fetish club Hades. Here, she discovers colleagues with other supernatural secrets. She’s also unexpectedly drawn to Remi, her most loyal fan, despite his deviant sexual nature and personality disorder. But succumbing to her lust is not a good idea since her maistre vampire forbids it. Now Willow has to outsmart VET agents, escape bounty hunters, and find a cure for narcolepsy…or vampirism. And she’s got to break the bond with her maistre, no matter how powerful and unrelenting he is. Most importantly, can she stay awake long enough to do any of it?

Given that the premise of a narcoleptic vampire is definitely original, I went into this book expecting it to drive a stake through some of those tiresome vampire tropes so beloved by much of the paranormal universe. For one thing, female bloodsuckers are rare in the paranormal genre for reasons I don't understand. Seriously, being immortal, beautiful, able to have as much sex as you want and never gaining weight should be the ultimate wish-fulfillment and yet the few female vamps I've come across fall into two categories: awesome and stake me please!

For my part, Willow walks that razor's edge of stake me please. There's a second book so maybe she'll redeem herself.

The setting is a future Houston where vampires are outlawed and have been nearly hunted to extinction. So far other supernatural creatures have managed to escape that same fate, but it's only a matter of time. Willow works at Pit of Hades festish club, a members-only establishment where pretty much anything goes. As expected, Willow is the club's resident necrophiliac perforrmer, and her adoring fans get off on watching her do naughty things with skeletons and blood.

Willow is one vampire who was not ready for prime time and the fact that she's still "alive" is a miracle in itself. She was forever doing dumb stuff and then needing to be rescued by men. I have no problem with the fact that she was a fetish performer. In fact, that was the only aspect that I thought was pretty cool. What I didn't buy was her supposed "religiousness". I remember Lestat's Catholicism, how it was a natural part of him, but still didn't stop him from behaving like an immoral asshat at times and how he also reveled in breaking the rules. The huge irony about her trying to remain Christian is that she fails hugely, and she refuses to accept the fact that she is failing. Hey, I don't mind female anti-heroines in the least, considering I'm a huge Sonja Blue fan, and if Willow had been written in that vein instead of her trying to be moral, that would have worked far better.

One of the things that really disturbed me about this book was the sexist way the other female characters are portrayed. If Sleepy Willow's Bonded Soul had been written by a man, I think there'd be a serious FAIL flag thrown down, but for some reason when female authors do this kind of stuff (sadly this has become especially prevalent in the YA genre), it gets a free pass. Willow's fellow performers are all painted in a very unflattering light. There's Cin the Latina whom upon discovering that Willow is a vampire, blackmails her into regaining custody of her child from a her rich and famous athlete husband; there's the shapeshifting Fire (guess what she is) who comes off as insanely jealous and possessive (then again who can blame her when Willow takes blood from here were-mate Punch (the big black bouncer) and forms a bond with him. Onyx (take a flying guess what color she is) not only plays the innocent schoolgirl for the pedophilia crowd, but she's written as someone who takes her role a bit too seriously when it comes to right and wrong. A new performer, Queen Ming is for the shoe/foot fetishists who's deviousness is deadly, and Saybree, Willow's best friend and witch, turns out to betray her. So much for sisterhood being universal. Contrast that with the more multifaceted depiction of the male characters who ran the gamut from being protectors to dastardly villians.

The other disturbing aspect was the treatment of multiple-personality disorder by Willow. Now, she's someone who suffers from narcolepsy and had to deal with the childhood trauma of fanatical parents who believed her condition was caused by demons. She was made to fast, she was beaten--basically treated as a pariah to the point where she saw vampirism as her only hope. One would think upon discovering that the man she's highly attracted to, the necro-obsessed Remi, suffers from not only one personality--but eleven--Willow wouldn't make a point of toying with his mind, yet she does because while she's in lust with the highly sexual Remi, it's the host body, Aaron that she's supposedly in love with. Unfortunately due to a horrific childhood truma, Aaron is impotent. So what does Willow do? In the middle of having sex with Aaron, she forces him to shift into his Remi persona (with interesting results).

With all these FAIL flags, one has to wonder why I gave this book three stars. No, I'm not being generous. The stars belong to Aaron/Remi and to the owner of Pit of Hades, the demon Franco. Aaron/Remi are probably the most well-written and sympathetic characters in the novel. In spite of all the pain they've suffered, they are Willow's most ardent supporters and willing to put their lives on the line to rescue her silly ass. Franco for the fact that in spite of what he is believes in sheltering and uniting all the supernatural creatures in solidarity, using everything in his arsenal to do so.

My last complaint: ever notice that it's usually female vampires who end up with some sort of supernatural chastity belt? Male vampires are allowed to screw everything that moves right up to the point when they meet "the One". Again I wonder why female authors perpetuate this kind of double-standard and why readers seem to eat it up. Willow is life-bonded to her maistre Max, in spite of the fact that he's got over a hundred brides plus the female human donors who like having illegal sex with him. Willow is supposed to belong to him only, and the psychopathic Max has some rather cruel and unusual ways to insure fidelity amongst his harem. Big face-palm!

So now you're asking, since you dislike Willow so much, are there any female vampires you DO like, Vixenne Lady Victorienne? I am so glad you asked. Indeed there are: Shori from the late, great Octavia Butler's Fledgling; Sonja Blue from Nancy A. Collins' Midnight Blue: The Sonja Blue Collection;Carmilla from Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla; and Atta Octavia Clemons from Chelsea Quinn Yardbro's Saint Germain chronicles. It isn't just the sexuality aspect, but the fact that they are strong enough to operate independently of men. Poor Willow hasn't gotten there yet.

This book was entertaining from the beginning to the end. I loved the author’s style of writing. It was engaging, light, and humorous. The story didn’t get verbose or complicated. Willow was just a narcoleptic vampire, who worked at a Fetish club, except on Sundays because…she was religious. She wasn’t on a mission to save the world, she just wanted to survive and live in peace. The humor was very tongue- in-cheek.

The story begins with Willow performing a death by suicide scene for an audience at Club Hades. This Fetish Club is exclusive, by membership only and the membership list is top secret. These people come to enjoy all kinds of weird sexual fetishes performed by various entertainers. Willow is one of the clubs feature acts. The audience loves the show because when she stabs herself and “dies”, it looks so real. The only thing was the audience didn’t know that Willow’s “act” was real, but since she is a vampire, she revives after every enactment. But she is a crowd pleaser.

Willow came to work at Hades for two reasons: Money and to Hide in plain sight. Like everyone else, Willow needed a paying job for her bills. But Vampirism was a crime and vampires were being hunted by the Vampire Extermination Team (VET). So by working at Hades, she can “pretend” to die and get paid for entertaining the patrons. She can also have an endless supply of anonymous patrons to get blood from, should she desire. She can also hang around other people doing bizarre things so her behavior won’t seem peculiar.

Willow has been a vampire for a little over 3 years. A choice she made because she thought it would cure her of narcolepsy. Willow’s aunt died in a car accident due to her narcolepsy and Willow vowed to find a cure before she had an unfortunate accident as well. Well, it didn’t cure her. Now that she is a Vampire with narcolepsy. She has to worry that she may fall asleep at any moment and be discovered by the VET agents or anyone else.

Willow has admirer/fan at the club named Remi, and he comes once a week to enjoy her show. They become friends and Willow feeds on him to replenish her blood. Remi was the most interesting character in this book. He had so many faces that he was a freak show of his own. Willow and Remi both are dealing with psychological and physical trauma from their past. That is probably why they connected. It was certainly the reason they didn’t judge each other.

One day, someone tries to kidnap Willow and we realize that the VET agents are suspicious that her “act” may not be act after all. Remi insists on helping her because he cares about her. We are lead on adventure as Willow & Remi tries to find out who tried to abduct her and why. They also have to figure out how to get the VET off her trail. Lastly, Willow has to deal with her maistre, who she is bonded to. He wants her to leave Remi, come back and be a true bride to him.

This book is a different from the typical paranormal romance novels. The heroine was very strong, but she wasn’t invincible. I also loved getting to know Remi. He definite had issues. It was a well written book and I look forward to reading the sequel. If you are looking for a unique take on vampires, then this is the book for you.

I cannot believe I really liked this book. Let me start by saying this book is f***ed up. It is a funny horror book, with some really twisted romance mixed in. That being said, Willow, the heroine is very likable even though she definitely lives, even though she is vampire, by her own warped code. I liked her a lot and I want to see where this series is going. Another warning, there is some very graphic sexual violence in this book, so if you are really squeamish, skip this; but if you are in the mood for something different and you can just go with the flow, give this one a try.

Really enjoyed this.....very original.  Fast paced, interesting, intriguing, dark, gritty, cringe-worthy at times.  With a big ole heepin' helpin' of steamy sex, and a little twisted love thrown in.   Definitely not your standard paranormal romance.

Willow has been a vampire for a few years & actually sought out becoming vampire in a last ditch effort to cure her narcolepsy- a condition that made her life a living hell.  Especially growing up in a bible-toting family that never accepted her.  Becoming vampire worked...the cure didn't.

This leads her to work in a fetish club (interesting), with co-workers of many types- human & supernatural (interesting) and having a 'relationship' with Remi (he's VERY interesting!)  For me, the most intriguing of all the characters.  He's human, but SO compelling, and the scene stealer throughout.  To tell more would be too spoilery.  (definitely does not hurt that author Dicey pictures him as Nir Lavi, Israeli model, on her website -WOW).

Authorities are allowed to kill Vamps on site and Willow has hit their radar.  With the help of a few, she tries to evade them & bounty hunters, while dealing with  her narcisitic master, still looking for her narcolepsy cure, and trying to understand Remi....it's all kinds of crazy.

The story grabs you from the start, with a show at the fetish club and Remi being really creepy - but hold the judgement on him.  The story moves fast, some bad stuff happens, but I was captivated by the events that unfold. I'm starting book 2 immediately. I definitely recommend this if you don't mind the following type of book (straight from Dicey's website).......

Dicey's novels ARE:
* Fiction with strong female protagonists.
* Full of unconventional relationships and taboo subjects.
* Action, adventure, and suspense-oriented.
* Served up gritty and raunchy.
* A bit of everything, but not for everyone.
* A proud exploration of the darker side of humanity.
* An escape from everyday, normal life.

Dicey's novels are NOT:
* Romances, though love abounds.
* Erotica, although sex scenes are explicit.
* Murder mysteries, but people die.
* Inspirational, unless you are inspired to live your dreams and pursue your passions.

NOTE: I FOUND THIS BOOK LISTED AT LEAST TWICE, GOODREADS NEEDS TO CLEAN UP THE SITE A BIT, THIS IS A REPOST OF EXISTING REVIEW

I finished the book and can't wait for the next one :) It is very original and the characters interesting, possibly the only thing I could complain about is possibly turn down the sex a small bit (having to reach to say anything negative) Vlad is the most interesting of the many the "personalities" we run into so far, wish we could see more of him. Editing which is usually the bane of these authors was surprisingly excellent and held true throughout the book. Let me list a few very minor things rather than just rambling : She seems to be getting her ass kicked WAY too much but since this is Book 1 I hope that she is a fast learner. She needs to win a tough fight every now and then. The ending is a bit of a cliff hanger but not in the conventional sense but more that you were ready for more but the book ended before you were ready so you have to wait for Book 2 to find out the next move. Must be a good selling point since I am ready to get book 2 ASAP.

Sleepy Willow’s Bonded Soul by Dicey Grenor renewed my love for and obsession with dark urban fantasy. Grenor’s storytelling is vivid and visual, and this story is absolutely enthralling.

Willow is a strong and self-aware woman. She is also a narcoleptic vampire. One of the many things I like about Willow is she is not a brooding vampire full of angst about being a vampire. Her backstory is firm, and she embraces who and what she is. She is also confident in her sexuality, something really refreshing in an urban fantasy female character. She’s smart and funny and imperfect, very realistic and relatable. Dicey Grenor has created the female hero we all want to see.

The author refers to this series as erotic urban fantasy horror, and I wholeheartedly agree. It is erotic, it is urban fantasy, it has horror. The sex and sensuality are not only steamy but also an integral part of the story—it’s also graphic, so adults only, please. The urban fantasy aspect is well-presented, neither trite nor overdone. And, of course, there is horror, both violent and psychological. The blending of these elements is fantastic.

Another thing to love about Sleepy Willow’s Bonded Soul is the depth. This story reflects a lot of sociological and societal realism. Issues we face everyday are part of the storyline without being in-your-face social commentary. It adds a disturbing level of realism. I like that.

Speaking of realism, there are some outside-the-norm but real-life things in the story that some readers might be sensitive to. For instance, the sex in Sleepy Willow is not vanilla; it leans more toward the kinky and freaky side of things. Another example is one of the characters has a mental illness that is a big part of the storyline. You might be wondering about there being a narcoleptic vampire, but I promise it is relevant and handled appropriately.

Dicey Grenor purposefully steps out of the mainstream. This story is bold and daring and probably not for readers who are looking for basic erotic paranormal romance. Grenor’s expert style and complexity has effectively seduced me, and I can hardly wait to immerse myself in the next book of the series.

And in this corner, representing H-Town (better than the Rockets, haha), Dicey Grenor! When I discovered Grenor had written a series called The Narcoleptic Vampire, I must admit my curiosity was aroused. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back, and I finished this book pleasantly satisfied.
.
Willow is a young woman who works as a dancer at a Houston fetish club. Okay... She was turned into a vampire three years ago...to hopefully cure her narcolepsy. Hmmm... She wants to break the bond with her maistre Max, and is falling in love with a human with multiple personality disorder. Did I forget anything? Oh, yeah. In the midst of all that, she has to avoid being killed by the Vampire Extermination Team (VET).
.
This is one of the most original premises I have seen in a while, and Grenor did a great job sucking the reader into a world where vampirism is illegal, but all other forms of supernatural beings (werewolves, shapeshifters, witches, etc) are free to live as they wish. Willow is a sympathetic figure, in that she both embraces her vampiric side, yet watches religious TV shows and tries to follow the biblical Ten Commandments, especially Thou Shalt Not Kill. The cast of characters surrounding her is cute, almost satirical, especially Aaron/Remi/Vlad/etc.
.
This is technically a supernatural/romance, but Dicey's writing style defies classification. Some scenes are graphically explicit in their violence/sexuality, yet at the same time the characters seem to want to avoid saying a dirty word. The prose and storyline are fun to read, and the story flows with very few wasted scenes. This is one delightful book, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Willow gets out of the mess she ended up in.

Sleepy Willow’s Bonded Soul by Dicey Grenor is a bold, genre-defying start to the Narcoleptic Vampire series—one that doesn’t hold back on sensuality, honesty, or emotional depth. Equal parts urban fantasy, erotic romance, and raw character study, this book is as fearless as its heroine.

Willow is not your typical paranormal protagonist. She’s witty, vulnerable, complicated, and completely unapologetic. She also happens to be narcoleptic, and Grenor doesn't shy away from portraying the reality of living with a chronic condition. The narcolepsy isn’t a gimmick—it’s part of Willow’s identity, and it adds both depth and tension to her story, especially as the supernatural elements begin to intrude.

The book dives headfirst into erotic territory, and it does so with confidence and purpose. The sensual scenes are intense and explicit, but they're also integral to the story and to Willow’s character development. This is a story that isn’t afraid to explore sexuality, desire, and mental health in complex, nuanced ways.

What really makes Bonded Soul stand out is how it balances its provocative style with real emotional stakes. Willow isn’t just navigating vampires and lust—she’s also grappling with identity, control, and the fear of losing herself, both literally and metaphorically.

If you’re looking for a steamy, smart, and refreshingly original take on the vampire mythos—one that centers a flawed but fiercely real woman—Sleepy Willow’s Bonded Soul is a must-read. Just don’t expect it to play by the rules.

Willow is a two-year old vampire with a history of narcolepsy that dates back to her childhood. She had hoped to get rid of it by getting turned, but immortality didn't help. Not only this, but she got stuck being one of hundreds of brides bonded to a Maistre vampire, Max. She managed to get away from him and start a life of her own, but it hasn't been easy. One thing her undead life has given her is some nifty abilities to please patrons at a fetish fantasy club she works at. Those who watch her regularly don't know many of her acts are real, rather than fake, but that works to keep her identity a secret. This is especially important because vampirism is illegal and anyone who is discovered to be a vamp receives an immediate execution. Willow has to work particularly hard to avoid that fate, especially because her narcolepsy tends to put her asleep at some rather inopportune moments.

Though things have gone fairly well since leaving her maistre vampire, problems of all kinds are starting to crop up. First, a man she holds some affection and interest for, Remi, wants to take their relationship to the next step. She likes him, but doesn't want to commit herself to anyone. His being human and not knowing what she is only makes the prospect more difficult. Second, someone attacks Willow at the club but gets away before she can find out who they are or why they tried to kill her. She also has to deal with a vampire hunter/executioner who suspects her true nature. Like a good hound dog, he refuses to give up, no matter how hard she tries to act human. If this isn't enough, her maistre vampire wants her to come back to him and he is jealous of Remi, but she doesn't want to give up her new life. Willow likes her independence and doesn't want to be part of a large vampire clan. Luckily, she discovers friends along the way who are willing to help her so that she just might survive all the new obstacles in her life.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this novel. It had an interesting premise, which made me want to try it. The book turned out to be a good choice because I felt drawn into the story almost immediately. Willow isn't some heroine that has impressive fighting skills and no fear. She does try to fight her battles and stand up for herself, but isn't always successful, so she learns to call for help when it's needed. It was also rather comical to see how Willow, who was raised in a religious family, dealt with being cursed as a vampire. She had a pretty good idea her soul wouldn't go to heaven, but that didn't stop her from trying to live the right way, even if she couldn't step into a church and holy objects burned her. Yet when it came down to it, she dropped her morals if they got in the way of survival. This made her practical, yet it was funny to see her inner thoughts on how she just blew another one of the ten commandments. It initially bothered her before she gave up worrying after awhile. I liked that she wasn't perfect and had faults. Her character felt real and sincere to me.

The world building for this novel is also well done. Pieces are revealed as needed to form the whole picture but it isn't done in some long, boring narrative. Instead the author tried to "show" how things work and rarely relied on using lengthy back story. This kept the pace of the novel comfortable. I would warn potential readers that there is a lot of sex (including implied rape scenes), violence, and gore in the story. Those things didn't bother me, as they are carefully done, but may be a problem for some. The only actual problem I had with the book is the plot. This is very much a character driven story. Various issues come and go throughout the novel. Most get resolved before the end, but not all of them. Yet I wouldn't exactly say there was one overarching plot that the heroine dealt with the whole time, unless you counted Willow's reservations in dealing with Remi as a lover. The book might have been slightly better if there was more focus on a problem outside of Willow's love life, but that is just a small complaint and honestly didn't affect my enjoyment of the book.

For those who want a typical paranormal romance, this one may not be for you. If you want to try something new and different, then you should give Sleepy Willow's Bonded Soul a chance. It isn't going to be a perfect romance, if that is what you are looking for, but it will be highly entertaining and unique. All the characters involved have serious issues, yet you enjoy seeing how they deal with them. Dysfunction is key in this book, but it all works to enhance the story. I am assuming there will be a second novel, based on the ending, and have every intention of picking it up. Dicey Grenor's writing style is enjoyable, humorous, and entrancing. Not a combination you can find often!

Strictly 18 and over

4.5*

After Willow’s Aunt is killed in a car accident, caused by narcolepsy, Willow is determined to find a cure for the genetic condition that she herself also suffers with. Taking part in various medical trials, seeing a number of doctors and swallowing a whole cocktail of pills don’t help, so Willow decides to make the ultimate sacrifice and become a Vampire. Unfortunately it didn’t work Willow still has the condition and with Vampirism now being illegal the world is a very dangerous place for her, she can at any moment fall asleep and that makes her extremely vulnerable.

Our protagonist, Willow, works in a fetish club performing for necrophiliacs which is a pretty good act for a vampire, so anyone with hang-ups for all things ‘kinky’ should not be reading this book. I personally didn’t find the sex scenes vulgar or crass, I thought they were as tastefully written as they could be considering their nature but any reader should be fore warned that some people could be offended by the adult content which is not in the ‘normal’ range of sexual tendencies!!

It was a very refreshing change to have an imperfect vampire, we are so used to them being perfection personified, larger than life, almost ‘God’ like, that to find one that has a major defect was quite nice. Narcolepsy is a medical condition where the sufferer falls asleep without warning at anytime of the day or night so as you can imagine this can become quite tiresome (pun intended lol) for a vampire especially if she is in the middle of feeding or fleeing from danger when it happens.

I loved Willow she was such a fun, strong willed female who struggled with her beliefs and her lifestyle but like the rest of us she just plodded on making the best she could out of her situation. The fact that her parents and brothers were very religious and thought her narcolepsy was the work of the devil put a sad slant on this tale and because she has to hide her vampirism from them I think she’s a bit lonely too.

Aaron was probably the most interesting and complicated person in the book, what a twist? I really don’t want to give anything about him away so it’s difficult to speak about him, but bringing this person into the book was absolute genius on Dicey’s part, it brought yet more uniqueness to this already very different story.

The last chapter wrapped up things nicely for the sub characters, answering our questions about Aaron’s early life and telling us where the lives of the other club performers were headed, while leaving the story wide open where Willow is concerned, and leaving the reader wanting more.

So…….. I’m always searching for those few reads that drag me in to the point where I am so absorbed with the story that nothing else matters and up to about 60% of my way through this book I really thought this was one of those books, I couldn’t put it down and only stopped reading when I fell asleep kindle in hand! Sadly the last 40% didn’t keep me as engrossed as the beginning had. I don’t know why but I think it was at the point where Willow was kidnapped, her vulnerability with the narcolepsy made me like her but the weakness she showed during that incident made me lose some of the respect I had for her and left me groaning out loud at her inability to protect herself against a mere human. At 90% I had no problem putting the book down to go to sleep so I knew at that point that although I was still enjoying the book I was no-longer totally engrossed. It is for that reason alone that I have to take away .5 from my rating. I liked the writing, the story, the characters, the pace, I enjoyed reading it and the editing was spot on! I am disappointed that the story lost its edge in the latter part but this in no way means the book wasn’t fantastic, because it was. I know my rating system can be frustrating for authors because many reviewers would give this book 5 stars, but personally I have to save those 5* ratings for books that excel at everything for me and keep me totally 100% absorbed living the book from start to finish and beyond and this one didn’t quite do it although it came close! I’m so pleased Dicey allowed me to read it and I can’t wait for the next instalment, maybe that one will be the 5* book I am searching for!!

Everyone’s taste in books varies widely and this review is my own personal and honest opinion.

4.5 stars. Where do I begin??!! This is such a page turner. Oh my goodness, this is not your typical vampire urban fantasy, romance novel. This book is all kinds of goodness wrapped in such variety that you never see some things coming.

I can't discuss a lot of the characters because they may serve as spoilers. However, Willow, oh Willow. If you like not only a tortured hero but a tortured heroine as well, read this book. Willow is not Mary Sue. She is very atypical compared to other books you've read in the past. She is a black, Christian vampire with narcolepsy. This could very well have been taken as a joke however this book is far from being light, fluffy or playful. I can't say anything about the hero because that would give the story away but...damn. Just read it. He is so unconventional. Not obvious at first and some of the moments will just break your heart.

Speaking of hearts, if you are the faint at heart, I wouldn't suggest this read. It is dark. It crosses boundaries. It very rarely sugarcoats what's happening to the characters. Things are usually glossed over in other books, will likely not be glossed over in this one.

The only synopsis I can give is that this is the story of Willow, a narcoleptic vampire who is also a performer at a fetish club. In this world, vampires are criminals just for existing and are being systematically exterminated by humans. They have no rights and are treated as such. She is not with a clan because she has serious issues with her maker. She meets and interacts with our uncanny hero and this book outlines her adventures after her life gets FUBARed. She goes through trials of trust, periods of betrayal, and finds kinship in the craziest places.

I am soooooo excited to continue reading this series!

This was my first and only book I've read on my Nook, which I've had since last summer. I did not know the book was available in print when I bought it at B&N. I'm saying this to let you know my reading was very erratic. I plan on reading it again but from this my first reading, I liked the book. The character, Willow was very lovable, even though she was a vampire. Her sense of humor was hilarious. She was very optimistic and approached everything with the same devil may care attitude, which one would expect from a female vampire. This is not your ordinary vampire book even though it has some of the familiar vampire lore. The author had her heroine, Willow, experiencing some real life situations and had her dealing with them, in a manner that anyone dealing with Willow’s physical short-comings would handle things; i.e., the group meetings to find a cure for her narcolepsy, the donation of her blood towards an experimental cure for her condition, her relationship with her over-zealous parents, to her one-sided relationship with her “husband.” Through all this, Willow was constantly searching for the perfect man. In the end, she found her “perfect” man in a completely unexpected way, manipulating three different personalities into one physical body, which was nothing short of sensational. How could one ask for more? Sleepy Willow's Bonded Soul is an excellent read, I highly recommend it.

3.5 stars - The opening is both grabbing and somewhat disturbing, but the story definitely kept my attention and in addition to some dark and twisty stuff, there were some interesting creative aspects to some of the characters. I didn't always like Willow (the author says that she's leaving Willow room to grow, so I can live with that) but I was especially fascinated by Willow's love interest who was - to quote a popular book - "fifty shades of f****d up."

I can't talk about what I found so interesting about Willow's love interest without being spoilerish, but the dark and twisty stuff makes the book not for the faint of heart , as a guage, I'd put the darkness level on par with as Ione's Immortal Rider.

I had a really hard time coming up with a star rating for this one, because it was more interesting than a straight 3 but the darkness - I am some what sensitive to darkness - kept it from being a 4 for me.

This was an entertaining unique book. Loved the different take on vampires. This was a fun, entertaining and well written. Willow is a young vampire that has narcoleptic tendencies. She falls asleep doing the oddest and yes the most normal of things, this alone makes several scenarios leaving you shaking your head. Max is her maker, he has very many other brides and cannot understand why Willow simply come home and tow the line. Willow enjoys working at a club that caters to fetishes. She is also is a Christian, has ethics. She also likes Remi a long time customer at the club, he has many many issues but she really likes him, and he her so she develops a relationship with him. Willow is then attacked at the club, then has a vampire hunter confront her, the law allows vampires to be executed. Who should Willow trust?
This book was a wild ride of who done it, friendships, betrayals, decisions , fights , sex and so much more. I don't want to give spoilers so read the book if you want a good fresh take of a vampire book.

read it in a day!! good to finally have a funny vampire story without too much complicated crap or soppy romance. willows in your face and doesnt care.
she has the uniqueness of her narcolepsy which definately has never been done before but its not written to be a joke.
her leading "men" play a vital and very fun role with them not being too wooden
she has a very poignant moment of weakness which has been criticized by some but i think it shows that she is as vulnerable as anyone when it comes down to it even though shes now an outlawed vampire.
It is definately 18+ for the vivid sex scenes but i would definately recommend it to those who like me have gotten bored with the generic vampire erotica which has saturated the market. im glad ive been here to see willow from the start and cant wait for more.
thank you Dicey!

Sleepy Willow has been one of the most fun urban fantasy/PNR books I've read in a while!

The narrative voice, characters, and plot had me hooked from the beginning.

Willow wants to cure herself of narcolepsy, and so is willingly turned into a vampire, with supernatural powers and strengths. Problem solved, right? Wrong. She still suffers from narcolepsy, which can be quite an inconvenience when vampire hunters are on her trail, and mysterious enemies are stalking her--and her possessive vampire maistre is psychically spying on her.

The story is well-paced, action packed, and be warned...this is definitely an 18+ read :)

So I am still not sure what to say about this book. First off there was too many plot lines running through this book for me. 3 different people were trying to hurt her..seriously!! Even Merit doesn't get into that much trouble. Then her "kinda boyfriend" has multiple personalities and she is falling in love with 2 of them for different reasons. WHAT!!! That was so messed up I can't even believe that. I am NOT going to read more in this series because it was way to weird and messed up. It is not typical for me to rate a book a 1 and finish it but I was just hoping that it would get better but it didn't.

Woo-hoo that was fun! I knew it would be the instant I met Dicey at Comicpalooza and she told me she'd written a story about a black vampire with narcolepsy that worked at a fetish club. Believe me, this book delivers a great plot and truly unique characters. There were several laugh out loud moments too. It has romance, sex, action, mystery, the whole enchilada.
She did leave it on a killer cliff hanger, but she's kind enough (cruel enough???) to give you the first chapter of the next book.
I'd love to tell you more, but I've got a sequel to purchase. Thank God for free 2-day shipping!

I loved this book. Once I started I couldn't put it down. The author takes you into the vampire world and makes you wish you could be apart of it. The main character Willow is hot, sexy, and she can kick ass if necessary. Her only weakness it seems, is that she has narcolepsy. Guess that can be pretty hard for a vampire. Lol. I don't want to spoil anything for those who will read it, but try it. This was different from anything I've ever read. You won't be disappointed.

This is the most unique paranormal romance book I have ever read. Most defientaly an 18+ read. I loved every minute of it. So many things will make you go, omg really? I have never read a story with such an unique job for the main character. Not only that the main character is a sexy black female vamp :D Talk about meeting someone strange in life, Aaron will make you think twice about men with multiple personalities :D Wonderful story. I'm going to keep this short (computer issues). Loved this book. Don't read paranormal often, but the "blurb" fascinated me...price was right as it was a freebie. Gave it a shot, and I'm glad I did. Fun, unusual, great characters, different story. Enjoyed enough that I want to find out what happens next so I guess I'll need to get the next book in the series! Would I recommend?? You bet.. especially to anyone that enjoys humor, paranormal and vampires.

What can I say about this excitingly unique, yet familiar take on vampires? Sleepy Willow’s Bonded Soul is refreshingly different, but it still holds many of the familiar lore of vampirism.

This is a weird story. In a good sense. It's definitely fresh, I'm not sure I ever read something like this. (Or even dreamt :-)

It's hooking, as I couldn't stop to read it.

It's a little too far-fetching. But, hey, we are talking of urban fantasy here, who cares :)

My only nit? Cliff-hanger.

I want to thank Melindeeloo. Without her review, I wouldn't have found this book.

This book was different that's for sure. Parts of me cringed when reading certain parts. Her love interest is seriously f%%%ed up but still couldn't put it down. Yes i've already purchased book 2 in the series.
