The cover broad topics such as Society, Commerce, and Culture, and delve into the nitty gritty science of the Life Cycle and Earth (in general). I was impressed by the pretty solid scientific explanations and the way the writers always paired them with a quick joke.
"The 30% of our planet that was not covered in water was called dry land, and this is where we preferred to spend most of our time."
Just as a note, I read this one shortly after A Short History of Nearly Everything and noticed quite a few parallels right off the bat.
"Our observation of the planets' regular motion was the first triumph of empirical science over irrational dogma. We named them after gods, just to be safe."
