Tried to do the Bible in audio form for Lent (with a huge list of stars reading - James Earl Jones is narrating). Only made it through Job...had to take plenty of breaks cause some of it just isn't that enthralling at 6am. I don't mean anything by that - remember this is the early books I'm talking about. They describe in *great* detail how the ark of the covenant was made TWICE. I know all about acacia wood now. And how to properly sacrifice an animal for a food, sin or burnt offering. And I've counted the Israelites repeatedly. That's the stuff that's easier to skim when you're reading, rather than listening. I intend to do the 2nd half of the OT again next year, then the NT. This really is a cool production though - there are sound effects (like rain during the floods) and its definitely acted, rather than just told. Makes it more real, and easier to relate to (aside from the slaughtering of goats).

I have listened to many (i think 5 total) audio recordings of the Bible. Of all those i've listened to, this one stands head and shoulders above the others. It's narrated by African Americans of note: clergy, actors, singers, etc. Samuel L. Jackson narrates the voice of God. Levar Burton is the Apostle John. LL Cool J is Samson. The rest of the Bible uses equally capable men and women throught. The Bible version being read is the TNIV and the entire Bible is filled with dramatic and appropriate background sounds. I started listening in January, intending for this to be part of my daily practice throughout the year, but i ended up finishing it in early August because it often was too compelling to put it down. I recommend this for anyone interested in listening to the Bible in a way that will feel alive and powerful and useful. This is sold in two parts, as the Old Testament and as the New Testament.

In this book inspired by the writer takes songs from secular radio and makes them into songs that glorify God. I must admit for almost every song I had to look it up on Spotify and some didn’t come up in some dead. Either way I didn’t joy the poetry of the writing and the way it flows in for the songs I couldn’t find I either created my own music or read it as poetry. This is a really great book you can get it for either or the music or the poetry. I thought it was a great idea. The only thing I didn’t like is they use common vernacular to describe Jesus so just saying he was there boo and a few other instances I cannot think of at the moment but I didn’t like that but the rest of the book and I made the majority of it was loving and respectful to God.

I love hearing the audio of each character in a different voice, accompanied by background audio that probably matches the various environments of that time where many of the encounters in these verses likely took place.

Likewise the music that comes and goes throughout the book creates the same feeling as when watching a theater show, a movie, or a concert. Sadness, suspense, disappointment and more all come alive through music.

Hearing someone else express the authors emotions in their own interpretation makes you feel like you have a better sense of the authors passion as opposed to reading text alone.

Audiobook: 65h.30m.

This is a fabulous (NIV) audio Bible. Instead of one or two voices reading through each book, this production has hired hundreds of actors to really flesh it out, to make the dialogue move naturally, to authentically emote as real people; t0 whisper and sing and shout when the text requires them to do so. The musical score can feel repetitive, but you'll be grateful for it when you get to genealogies and laws! If you're an auditory learner and want to get into a Bible, this is the one. Highly, highly recommended.

This has been an amazing addition to my Lenten disciple Bible study. I've never heard a better production of the Bible in audio and it brings life to it with the different voices for each character. While the music can be repetitive at times, it also livens the experience.

I didn't read all of it, or all of the Old Testament, but every part I listened to was good.

Was very enjoyable to listen to but... there were some slight problems with the audio book. A lot of the sound effects and music are re-used, quite understandable when you're doing an audiobook around 80 hrs. But still subtracts from the experience after you've heard the sang song several times and it's supposed to make the moment a state of awe. But instead makes you think "How many times will they play that song?" Only other complaint would be that a few poems written by males were read by females. Not a bad thing, I was looking for things to be in a little more context and it seemed to kind of take them out. For instance, it's a little different when a guy says "I'm going to get you" and a women says it. I would personally much more terrified of the women then the man...

Phenomenal voice acting and just about as good as you can make the bible as an audio book. Would have given it four stars but I took one off for the things I mentioned above.

PS If you want to get through the whole bible, this audiobook would be a great way to do it

Audio book. This was really great. I have always had trouble getting through the bible. I would either not know the context, who was talking, and the readers did a wonderful job. I would recommend to anyone who has had trouble getting through the bible. It is 30 cd's, so it takes some time, but I may listen to it again, after I listen to the new testament of course.

This was good, and sort of reads like a storybook, especially in the old Testament. This chunk had I and II Chronicles, which I have to admin was quite gruelling to get through with all the lineage and measurements of armies, and temple pieces. However, the book of Job was great, as were the Psalms.

I saved all 60 CDS to my iPod and I skipped through the beginning and ending song that plays over and over. It's great for long road trips because its so life like as to and African storytelling listening experience.

Checked out of the library. Listened up to The Chronicles but had to return. Will check out again to finish.

Checked out two or three times more to complete. Enjoyed this version but it’s better to own your copy so it’s not a choppy read.

I found this a really good way to listen to the Bible. I thought I wouldn't like the dramatization, but it really helped while driving.

The Old Testament has so much in it and I enjoy Genesis the most I suppose. The narrators, music, and sound effects are excellent and help me hear what is contained in the Old Testament.
