This review is a bit confusing (like my view of this book) so bear with me...

If I could give 3.5 I would, the story of Kainan is good it flows nicely and it never stalls. I think it is a good book and I want to stress that, I don't think it is as strong as other fiction I have read and as a big fan of Terry Goodkind I will rate all other fantasy against his books and thats where this book falls down for me. It lacks depth.... What I mean is there is one story and yes its a good story but that's it theres not enough invested in the character for me I want to care for the character and feel for them, to cheer for them when they eventually complete their quest and save the day. In kainan I was never shocked never surprised it was pretty obvious who was bad and who was good from the start and I still feel that Kainan calling Arweyn Honey was a mistake, is it a nickname?? How can someone who was unsure if the girl liked him and worries his feelings won't be reciprocated continue be a joker and call her honey??? Honey is used as a term of endearment I just don't think a man would call a female love interest Honey after one day of knowing her kindred souls or not.

Conclusion, worth a read but didn't rock my reading world, I will give it a few weeks and then think about reading the next one.

This book had an interesting story line set in a world were people with certain blood lines have the power to travel instantly between worlds. The main hero was separated from his family at birth and was raised on one world until tragedy forced him to travel to another world were he discovers his birth parents, and where he falls instantly in love with a fair maiden who also possess magical powers. Together they go on a quest to defeat truly evil creatures.
I had a hard time reading this book, the story itself is interesting but the dialog is difficult to read and get into, and there is a lot of it. The characters are either all good or all evil, there is no in between, and "spark" between the hero and the maiden seems forced at times.

This author certainly knows how to pack a punch and write a good plot. Great loveable characters. Great baddies. Bit of romance. Great fighting scenes. Lots of adventure. However, I was a little disappointed with the editing. It really needs a good and thorough looking at. Spellings are fine, it's just the grammar. Words are missing or doubled up as a sentence has been changed and the author has forgotten to take something out. This didn't put me off though as I got quite used to it. I might just have stretched this tale to a 5, if hadn't been for the bad editing.

Now how to review this...
It was a good read but not all satisfying. I kind of expected something more. Fantasy is one of my favorite genre in a story especially if there's romance. There was just something missing, may be more depth to the story or connecting to the characters. But still a good read.
