The First Groundling Skydancer

This collection, building on his whimsical world of Big Flats, contains three stories of the triplet sisters, Larna, Shalla and Veera. The story, "The First Groundling Skydancer" introduces you to the mischievous youngsters as their father tells them a bedtime story. You meet them again, when they're a little older in the story, "Trick and Treats" where they plan revenge on the local town bullies. In the last story in this wonderful world titled, "The Flag" Veera discovers her talent and, perhaps, her future love.

The second series in this collection, "Love and Honor" and "Defenders of the Worldstone" explores magic and the moral and ethical uses of it. Defenders also explores the building of trust and friendship and is well worth reading.

The last story, added as a bonus, is titled "Cool Water." A gambler is discovered cheating at poker and is turned out in the desert with no food and water as punishment. His only directions are "Cool Water" is somewhere in "that direction." This is a wonderful story of a cheater finding out just what it's like being cheated.

Six short stories will warm your heart, have you rooting for the little guy and leave you wanting to read more of the worlds from the imagination of Gene Wolf.
