Fabulous unfolding of Greek Mythology divided into these book Cosmogony/Theogony; The Gods of the Hellenes; Other Deities; The Heroes; The Trojan War; The Return of the Heroes Home; Odyssey and The Return of Odysseus.
What a poorly written book! The author tries to cram all mythological characters and their deeds in 167 pages, and the result is a dizzying array of names and relations that are utterly impossible to follow. I should've known better: this book is merely written for curious tourists who will only skim the book.
Very good introduction to Greek Mythology. But no references. So while the author speaks about the Trojan War, the Odyssey etc she doesn’t reference the sources for the stories eg: the Iliad ends before the “wooden horse” scene but no mention of which story that comes from (it’s the Aenead). Also the grammar and spelling in the translation is not always that good. However fantastic photographs, and for an EUR10 book bought on the Plaka you have some very interesting reading. Worth buying.
With only a distant memory of many of the Greek mythologies I found the book interesting and confusing. The list of relations and alternative names and stories made it difficult to tie a thread together. However, simply reading and not putting a lot of thought with respect to how the stories linked together made it a better read. The Trojan War and Odyssey were more familiar and enjoyable.
Ante el basto internet y una rica mitología, uno no sabe donde empezar. Recomiendo encarecidamente este libro, que a modo de diccionario o biografía de cada dios, según importancia introduce y es un gran introductor de esta gran mitología!
