Gotrek and unsung heroes of the Empire, or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between, and depends entirely upon whom you ask…

When the daughter of an inkeeper is abducted, Gotrek and Felix embark upon a journey into the darkness of Hel Fenn. Amidst the remnants of the long ago battle that spelled the end of the Vampire Wars, they find horrors they could never have anticipated, as a band of devoted cultists seek to resurrect one of the greatest of the vampire counts of the vicious sorcerer-king Mannfred von Carstein.

Read it because
Mannfred von Carstein is a legendary figure, and one of the architects of the events that brought about the end of the Warhammer World. And here's a Gotrek and Felix tale that tells of his return to the land of the living…

Read in the Gotrek & Felix: Lost Tales paperback anthology

Almost 5 stars.
Loved the characters, the storyline, the grim epicness of it and all the references to Steven Savile's Vampire Wars trilogy and everything.
Sadly the plot scheme is always the same of Gotrek & Felix long spanning saga: archvillain(s) scheming, Felix falls in love, Felix finds out evil plot, secondary characters die, Gotrex's overpowered magic axe cleave archvillain(s) in two, The End.
But the duo fighting against hordes of zombies, ghouls, vampires and necromancers is a blast if you are a grimdark fantasy undead fan reader.
And the ending was just one of the best ones ever.
