CONSTANT DANGER

On the run from a mental institution and her vindictive half-brother, it's safe to say that Sarah Pringle's happy life as a schoolteacher is on hold. Too bad that as far as self-defense goes, "run and hide" is the best she's got. And with the monsters that started her escape hot on her heels, that's not going to cut it for long...

INSTANT LUST
That is, unless Sarah has a bigger, badder, hotter monster on her side. Max Petrovsky is right at the top of the list of alpha male ass-kickers. And he knows exactly what Sarah's up against. Good thing, because the minute he sees her something primal kicks in, turning everyday attraction into red-hot desire. As long as they're cooperating, why not mix some pleasure with business? Of course, Max should probably tell Sarah he's a vampire himself...<

What a great lil novella. I loved getting to see more of Max. I loved him from the first two books and Sarah was great. This story had so much meat to it. It didn't feel rushed or like something is missing like most Novella I read. I think it could have been a full novel though, but it was great getting to see max fall in love and get his HEA.

Max & Sarah

Max Petrovsky is a huge, strong, scary vampire, the right hand of Kayrs bothers and a nanny. Particularly, he is little Janie’s babysitter.
Little Janie wanted him to look after her as soon as she discovered that his eyes are pink.
The King needed to be absolutely sure:

Dage: “You’ve spent two hundred years protecting the Realm, fighting for our people, ensuring my safety.”
Max: “So?”
Dage: “If you had to make a choice, if it came down to it, if it came down to the death of your king –or the death of that child – who lives?”
Max: “She lives.”
Dage:“You’re hired.”

Sarah Pringle has run away from a mental institute where she was trying to explain that white-faced monsters with fangs and evil eyes truly exist.

Max will run after Sarah, but you will not know what is going on until you reach the middle of the book. Sarah is definitely not crazy, but only a victim of circumstances and her half-brother’s greed.
The vampires will try to protect her and Max will start having feelings about her.

I loved this short story. I particularly liked the two main characters. Sarah is feisty, but at the same time cute and Max has pink eyes and a big heart.

Sarah: “Ah, I get it. Your job is too dangerous…you’re a lone wolf…you don’t deserve love.”
Max: “First, my job is dangerous, but I’d protect you. Second, I’m nowhere near a wolf – lone or otherwise. Believe me, I know a couple. And finally, love is something I’ve never understood.”

4 - "Sorry, vamp. Not going to happen." Stars!

Rebecca Zanetti, managed to pack an awful lot of story into this novella. I wish it had been longer and that is the only reason I dropped it down a star. I think Max and Sarah had enough going for them to get a full length book.

We have seen glimpses of Max throughout the previous books as he is Janie’s main guard. I have had a soft spot for him since the beginning; I mean who wouldn’t go all squishy for a guy who is happy to let a little girl paint his nails!

”You don’t seem like a snuggler.”
“Ah sweetheart. I’ve been known to snuggle, cuddle, wipe away crocodile tears and buy Band-Aids decorated with ponies. I’m harmless.”

He also has specific tastes when it comes to women –

”I like large women... Females who can take it all night and are happily unable to walk the next morning.”

Which leads me onto his deliciously dirty mouth –

”Sarah” ... “I’m going to roll you over, and you’re going to sleep.”
“Why?”
“Because the other option is in two seconds, you’re going to be flat on your back, getting fucked within an inch of your life. You’re not ready for that.”

I am hoping we get to see more of Max & Sarah in the remaining books in the series, as I loved them both.

I couldn’t get into it maybe that was my problem. Maybe I’m just not into novellas or maybe I couldn’t see the chemistry between the main characters. I found Sarah a bit annoying and the tension kind of annoying too.

I found the politics kind of boring and overall, I think I like the full length novels more.

I was excited that Max got his own book. Wish it was full length, but I will take what ever I can get with these sexy heroes, Rebecca has created. I have been curious about Max since the beginning of this series when he started being Janie’s bodyguard.

Loved how we got to see his past and how he became Janie’s bodyguard. He is so sweet to Janie in Fated #1 and Claimed #2, but it was a treat to see him with her for the very first meeting in the beginning of Tempted. It is amazing how this huge vampire soldier is a fighting machine and can kill without thinking twice about it, then he is so sweet and gentle with Janie. I felt so bad for him for having a drunken father and was so happy that it was Dage who saved him and brought him into his family. I love their relationship as if they were brothers. Dage does not treat him any different then he would his own family. In Dage’s eyes Max is his family.

Max is a concerned alpha male hero. He is not one with a lot of patience when it comes to his family and his mate.

"I will not hurt you. Now take off the damn underwear and warm the hell up.”

He has always been a badass soldier and never new how to love and be sweet to others till he started being Janie’s bodyguard. He has his moments when he can be so sweet to Sarah.

“You don’t seem like a snuggler.” (Sarah)

“Ah sweetheart. I’ve been known to snuggle, cuddle, wipe away crocodile tears, and even buy Band-Aids decorated with ponies. I’m harmless.” (Max)

He was born and raised in Russia until Dage Rescued him and brought him the United States. He is always calling her Milaya. It means pretty one in Russia. I adore it when he would call her this. Loved seeing the gentle side in him when he was around Sarah.

Max like all of Rebecca’s heroes are very protective of their mate’s and do not do well when their mates put them selves in danger.

“I’m fine with dating. With courting. What I’m not fine with, what you’ll never do again, is put yourself in the path of a bullet. Ever.” His gaze locked hard with hers. “I’m an easygoing guy sweetheart. But I have a line, and you found it. Don’t cross it again.”

I loved the talk Max and Conn have and the advice Conn gives him about Max’s mate. Was excited to see a little bit of Conn and him getting ready for his story.

Do not let this short novella scare you away because of the length. Rebecca does a great job with fitting all you need to know about max and more in it. You really do not need to read this before Hunted #3 but it is a bonus to get all the goods on Max. I highly recommend this series for all Paranormal fans.

"Don't panic here, darlin'. But we're about to snuggle."

Okay, I'm just a wee bit excited over here...

Because I liked this one and had fun with it.

He waited as she settled her stance. Then went for a knee shot.
It was the worst side kick he'd ever seen. Her worn tennis shoe bounced off his knee, causing no more hurt than a breeze. She stumbled and he reached out to steady her. His hand easily wrapped around her bicep. "Where the hell did you learn to fight?"
"The internet," she gasped, trying to jerk away.
That explained it. "The knee shot was a good move. You just didn't aim the kick right." He was a big guy. If she dropped him, she'd be able to run.
"Should I try again?" Fire lit her eyes while a small smile flirted with her pink lips.
The humor caught him off guard. He matched her smile. "You'll just hurt your foot."

***

Instinct had her raising both fists, preparing to fight.
He stopped cold. His eyes warmed and he cocked his head to the side. "Honey, take your thumbs out of your closed fists."
She frowned. "Why?"
He sighed. "Because you'll break them that way." A scowl shaped his rugged face into something dangerous. "Didn't anyone ever teach you how to fight?"
Why did he sound angry? "No." Irritation began to well up. "Don't patronize me. I can handle myself."
"Can you now?" He stepped closer, bringing the scent of male and freshly cut cedar with him. "Prove it."

I really liked Max and Sarah and it was refreshing not to be turned off by some seriously effed up thing or another in their behaviour and/or relationship dynamics.

(I was starting to wonder if that was possible after reading the first two books...)

"Ah sweetheart. I've been known to snuggle, cuddle, wipe away crocodile tears, and even buy Band-Aids decorated with ponies. I'm harmless."
She couldn't help the small laugh. Max was as harmless as a tornado. Yet somehow, the shelter provided by his strong body lent her a sense of safety. "You have a child." Intriguing, although her heart ached. She wondered why. She just met the guy. He certainly wasn't hers.
"I guard a little girl." Max dropped his chin to Sarah's neck. "She's... special."
Love. It was in the tone of his voice.

This is my favorite in the series thus far which gives me hope for the rest of the journey...

Sure, Max pulled his alpha card out with quiet efficiency but the irritating, frustrating, OTT neanderthal tactics were absent for me in this one which was a welcome relief.

For the briefest of moments, vulnerability flashed in those otherworldly eyes.
Her heart thumped hard against her ribs. He was afraid of hurting her. Emotion swelled in her chest. The need to protect him, to reassure him, caught her off guard. "I trust you, Max. You won't hurt me."
"I know."

This novella had action, romance (of the fairly insta kind but I was good with that - you know how the whole 'mate' thing often goes), sweet and adorable moments , humor, and heat - so I'm all good...

(Thanks to my ladies from the LAL group for a fun buddy read and looking forward to diving into the next one with you soon!)

"I'm not the teddy bear I look like."
She snorted. Teddy bear? "You look like a genetically enhanced killing machine created by a desperate government after an apocalypse."
"Like I said, teddy bear." He settled more securely around her.

Tempted by Rebecca Zanetti
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance, Suspense
4.75 Stars

At about 90 pages it is a short read, but don't let the size fool you.

Fast paced and overflowing with suspense and action.

Max is a gentle and intelligent giant of a man (vampire).
Sarah is a highly intelligent but very frightened woman. She has good reason to be afraid.

They fit perfectly and heat up the pages with their passion!

The Kurgans are hot on their trail. At every turn they are faced with danger.

I can't wait to read book 3 'Hunted'. I already have it downloaded and ready to go.

Looks like I have to add Rebecca Zanetti to my Favorite Authors list.

"Tempted" is the story of Sarah and Max.
Another human on the run from the evil Kurjans..
Another vampire who rescues her, discovers she's his mate which is followed by intense banging..
Some evil and courtroom drama..
Acceptance of fate.
Honestly, this bored me. The characters felt very unidimensional, and if it wasnt for the ball-slapping-ass sex, this would have been a one star. Very not interesting.

Tempted is such a wonderful novella. Max is such a sweetheart for an enormous, deadly male. I wasn’t sure I’d like Max in his own story, he seemed sort of bland as little Janie’s bodyguard. But when the king offered Max the job of guarding the four year old and after talking with her, when Dage asked Max if it came down to saving the king’s life or Janie’s, Max responded…”she lives.” I fell so hard for him from that moment. Sarah is perfect for him and the type of heroine I adore…a smart, intelligent, professional woman with a generous spirit yet independent and self-sufficient. Their romance is wonderfully written with none of the usual stupid and unnecessary drama that many authors use to stir things up in order to shake up the main couple.

I was also relieved that the heroine was not the usual emotionally unavailable female who is running from a nasty past...I'm so over all those trite story lines. I really enjoyed this story about a man who was truly without family and alone in the world, who had accepted his aloneness, until he saw something special in the quite yet intense heroine. Tempted is an excellent addition to the Dark Protector series.

Loved it!

This is what I was hoping for from this series!

It focused on the couple, but did not ignore the overall storyline. They were both likable (although I already loved Max from book 1), hot for each other, the story moved fast (it was a novella)and had a happy ending! Yippee!

Max the babysitter/bodyguard and Sarah the not really crazy, crazy lady lol. This was ok Sarah was a bit stubborn but then she's a human woman with big vampire men so who can blame her. This was a novella so ily was pretty quick but I liked that it actually followed and progressed the storyline somewhat. With the flu riding me hard my reading pace has slowed a bit but I'll definitely get to the other books in this series soonish.

It’s been a long time since I sat down and read a book in one sitting…a long time. And I fell into TEMPTED by accident. I’d signed up for a giveaway of Ms. Zanetti’s latest release, SHADOWED over at Tome Tender Book Blog (http://tometender.blogspot.com/), although I didn’t win, the book sounded interesting. Then while scanning through my Kindle looking for the next read, I saw that I had TEMPTED. What a great discovery TEMPTED and Ms. Zanetti turned out to be. TEMPTED is a wonderful take on the whole vampire genre. I like Ms. Zanetti's entire concept about mates and extra chromosomes. Her writing style is sharp, sassy, and super sexy. I absolutely loved the hero, Max, and heroine, Sarah. Her secondary characters also were a joy and fleshed out extremely well.

Ms. Zanetti’s technique drew me in and the real world disappeared as I stayed up into the wee hours finishing TEMPTED. I’m not sure if I should thank Ms. Zanetti or chastise her for my lack of sleep.

If I have one complaint it’s that the ending seemed rushed. I wanted more! But I guess that’s what good writing is all about, leaving the reader wanting more and that’s what Ms. Zanetti did, left me wanting. Looks like TEMPTED is the third book in the Dark Protectors series, so I’ll have to start at the beginning, but TEMPTED worked as a standalone. And now that I’ve hopped onto the Dark Protectors series bandwagon, I’m sure I won’t regret the ride. A well deserved 5 stars!

Serious Max gets his happily ever after with spunky teacher Sarah.

Sarah has just escaped the mental hospital her greedy half-brother put her in to get her company when a huge warrior intercepts her.

Max has left his bodyguard duties at home to find the human woman who has knowledge that his king needs, not expecting her to be his mate. Reluctant to claim her with the virus threatening all mates' lives, he can't resist the attraction between them and neither can she.

Before long, they find themselves in bed and after surviving a few life-threatening situations, feelings soon follow, until they eventually get their happily ever after.

I liked Sarah as a new addition to the family and I'm looking forward to seeing more of her in her new role of teacher to Janie and other children of the Realm in future books.

The series continues with Hunted and Conn and Moira's story.

I didn't realise this was a novella until about half way into it but as far as these things go it was perfect. It added to the story without being something you would have to read for the rest of the series progression to make sense or be interrupted.

It was nice to see Max get a mate and I love that she fits so perfectly with his current purpose of protecting Janie. And I'm hoping that next up is Conn’s book because I'm really dying to get more of him and his mate. I think that's going to be explosive.

Read my review at Demon Lover's

3.5

This is a good novella and easy to slip into the world. For some reason I thought this was aliens, but I guess not? It's vampires and Kurjans. But I'm not sure if they're otherworldly or what.

Sarah has escaped the psych hospital where her half-brother had her committed, and she's on the run. She had a run-in with the Kurjans, but thinks they are vampires...monsters. Her half-brother Andrew wants her controlling shares in their grandfather's pharmaceuticals company,so he puts her on a temporary 3 month mental evaluation before he plans to turn her over to the Kurjans, because she's a potential mate for them as well.

But the vampires want her for their own reasons. She is a potential mate. She has a pychometric ability that allows her/forces her to see whatever info is left by the last person to touch the object. A chair where a mother had been sitting when she found out her adoption would go through brings Sarah joy. But the gun her brother used on her brought rage and fear from the gang member who held it before her brother had.

I loved Max, and I enjoyed seeing the vampires together, but Sarah tended to annoy me a bit. On the whole, I think this is a fast and enjoyable PNR read. I have the next book and I'm excited to start it today, I did like the world-building and I definitely want to read the first 2 books.

"Изкушен" в Читанка

Чудесна малка новелка. Макс е изпратен да открие собственицата на една лаборатория в която вероятно са намерили лек за вирус 27. Това, което не очаква е, една изплашена, борбена жена, която на всичко отгоре е и потенциална половинка. Сега Макс трябва да се бори с враговете им, със страха й, и със собствените си желания.

Loved this, Max intrigued me in the previous two books with how he was putty in Janie's hands so I really wanted his story. For a novella this was brilliant, paced just right with just enough information not to leave the reader wanting. Both characters were perfect for each other with no unnecessary drama and the best bit - I got more than a peek or two of Conn and Jase.

I don't think I've ever read of a more brainless, spineless heroine than Sarah. I mean seriously, at least have some self-respect and sense of self-preservation. And Max was not one of my favourite heroes, eather.

Great novella that includes a hulking giant of a vampire, my current favorite, Max. I fell in love with Max during and particularly at the end of the prologue. Swoony goodness right there ladies. If you don’t read anything else in this short book, you absolutely must read the prologue.

I like novellas but have a hard time finding one that gives me plenty of meat along with plenty of steam, a great alpha and a heroine I don’t want to throw through the window. This one met all my novella wishes and then some. It has a great story that could probably be picked up without having read the previous books in the series.

Great buddy read with a great group of buddies. I highly recommend it.

Tempted by Rebecca Zanetti is the book #2.5 in the Dark Protectors series. This one is about Max, Janey's bodyguard. Bodyguard and warrior, Max always gets his man. In this case he’s not after a man though, he’s after a scared woman on the run. Sarah knows what she saw and what she saw was a vampire attack. Labeled as crazy and shut away she escapes only to run into the one thing everyone tells her isn’t real…..a vampire. Russian by birth, he is completely sure that his heart does not exist. That is until Dage assigns him to watch over and protect Janie. In seconds, the little girl shared a secret, asked to be his friend, and made the singularly BEST Reveal EVER.

Rebecca Zanetti, managed to pack an awful lot of story into this novella. I wish it had been longer. This is a solid novella that is romantic and exciting with lots of paranormal action, and Max and Sarah’s story fits nicely into the Dark Protector world. Max’s role in the series so far has primarily been that of Janie’s guard. A big, dangerous vampire who is fiercely protective of his charge and who is happy to play go fish and have his nails painted by a 4 year old. What’s not to love? Max <3 Wish his story would have been longer and had more Janie scenes, but still, Max! <3 An enjoyable installment. Despite his appearance, Max is such a big teddy bear. Sarah seems to accept things very easily but then, this is a novella so it's understandable. This was a quick and easy read. It gave the reader some back story on Max (Janie's babysitter) and it was an introduction to another mate. I don't know how much of a role Max and Sarah will play throughout the rest of the series, but it was nice to learn more about them. I love Max!! He was one of my favorite characters in this series since he first showed up in Fated and this big, burly, dangerous vampire lets this tiny, little girl paint his fingernails for losing at Go Fish. How awesome is he!! The story was so short, we barely get to meet Sarah and we really only get a very brief story. I really like this series! Vampires and shape shifters and witches… Oh my! This is a quick read, only a 90 page novella. So far I don’t think it has a major role in the greater story arch, but does introduce Max’s mate to the world. It would probably be alright to skip if you are reading the series. It would be shame though because even though it was short it was really a fun read. Lovely, just too short. Another great novella Rebecca. Short and sweet. And Max is flippin hott! Awww! I really liked this novella about Max and Sarah. Oh I think I love Max!

"Sorry, vamp. Not going to happen."

4 short but still action-packed, sexy and badass stars

This is a solid novella that is romantic and exciting with lots of paranormal action, and Max and Sarah’s story fits nicely into the Dark Protector world.

Max’s role in the series so far has primarily been that of Janie’s guard. A big, dangerous vampire who is fiercely protective of his charge and who is happy to play go fish and have his nails painted by a 4 year old. What’s not to love?

Sarah has recently escaped from a mental institution and is on the run. She was admitted by her brother after she witnessed a violent murder by Kurjans (the vampire enemy) which, of course, nobody believed when she tried to explain. But the plot thickens because her brother is an evil, psychopathic ass who wants her out of the way so that he can declare her incompetent and claim their grandfather’s pharmaceutical company for himself.

In damage control mode after Sarah’s very public sharing of information about vampires, and wanting access to the research her company is conducting, Max comes in as part of a vampire team to save Sarah. But he wasn’t expecting her to be a potential mate for his race, and he certainly wasn’t expecting the intense attraction that they share.

“Sarah” ... “I’m going to roll you over, and you’re going to sleep.”
“Why?”
“Because the other option is in two seconds, you’re going to be flat on your back, getting fucked within an inch of your life. You’re not ready for that.”

I really enjoyed this story! Max is a total alpha but an absolute sweetheart, and I love that we got a quick glimpse of him pre-Janie so that we got to see the shift from cold, ruthless killer to caring protector

“You don’t seem like a snuggler.”
“Ah sweetheart. I’ve been known to snuggle, cuddle, wipe away crocodile tears, and even buy Band-Aids decorated with ponies. I’m harmless.”

And Sarah is a great heroine. Her power of psychometry is pretty badass (and is certainly helpful in identifying bad guys and uncovering secret plots), and despite all that she goes through, she manages to keep her wits about her. She understandably freaks out when she discovers what Max is, but she's strong enough to stand up to him and she bravely accepts him and his world, and all that he means to her.

The romance is extremely fast moving, but it’s a novella so that’s to be expected, but even with the shortness of the story, the chemistry between Max and Sarah is fantastic! They have some steamy hot encounters, and more than that, you can feel a connection between them, and in such a short read, that’s really well done.

Like the rest of the books in this series, there’s a great blend of action, romance and sex, and this book fits nicely into the overarching storyline which features the ongoing battle between the vampires and the Kurgens. Con and Jase both play a part in the action, and I loved the chance for more time with these boys - they’re a fantastic bunch of characters, and I’m excited to continue on with the series.

ABOUT THE SERIES from Rebecca Zanetti:

The Kayrs family leads not only the vampire nation, but also the Realm, which is a coalition of vampires, shifters, and witches. Years ago, an evil vampire race called the Kurjans declared war on the Realm by creating a deadly virus that infects vampire mates. The virus attacks chromosomal pairs and takes mates from immortal to human, and maybe down to death. No cure for the virus has been found for mates, and the vampires, who are male only, know that time is running short.

REVIEW: TEMPTED is the March 2012 novella from Rebecca Zanetti in her Dark Protectors series. As we begin our feature with Rebecca’s TWISTED tour I wanted to do a quick read and review of one of the storyline installments. TEMPTED is Max and Sarah’s story.

Sarah is on the run; escaping from a psychiatric facility where she has been held in confinement against her will and by her half-brother’s decree, Sarah knows there are others out there not quite human. But after witnessing the ‘others’ in action, she knows that her confinement has more to do with her vindictive brother than her eye witness account of vampire like creatures, known as the Kurjans, and murders.

Max is a vampire. Hoping to track down Sarah, he will come face to face with the woman who would one day be his mate. But first, Max must ensure Sarah’s safety, if only the woman would stop running; and secondly, his fellow vampires need Sarah to ensure the continuation of their own kind-she holds the secret to the virus that takes the females mates of vampires from immortal to human.

TEMPTED is a quick paced storyline that furthers some of the Dark Predators series. Rebecca’s pulls the reader into her world of vampires and Kurjans and a war between the species. If you are a fan of the paranormal and want to read a different kind of vampire series, Dark Predators is a must on your TBR list.

This novella is a nice little side romance that takes place between the events of Claimed and Hunted. It doesn't really advance the overall arc of the series, but it features several characters from the full length books. It also dips into the established worldbuilding and the romance provides some great sexual tension and some satisfying bedroom action.

The hero of the story is Max. He's one of the vampires who helped take care of Janie in the earlier books. He is tough as nails and built like a brickhouse. The Kayrs brothers sort of adopted him after he left behind an abusive father in Russia, but he never really considered himself part of the family. He never really let himself feel, until Janie helped open his heart.

Now he has a new mission: find and protect a special, enhanced woman who is in danger from the Kurjans. Sarah was almost killed by them, but when she went to the police, it earned her a one-way ticket to an insane asylum. Max must convince her to trust him, while teaching her all about the supernatural world she has stumbled into. It won't be easy; her own brother is working with the enemy to take her down. But with Jase and Conn around to help, the good guys are armed for the fight.

I liked the romance here, because even though Max is tough and powerful, he doesn't feel the need to utterly dominate Sarah. Even though he knows she is his mate, he gives her choices. He treats her with respect and doesn't threaten her dignity. My favorite line of the book:

He had no intention of being a bossy asshole with her.

If only more alpha heroes felt that way! As for Sarah, she is ok. I didn't have strong feelings for her one way or another, except that I was happy that she accepted Max without the requisite drama of the other heroines, and gave him some happiness.
