This was a pretty good book. It had a style that was not too severe on detail but gave a general overview of the Amazon. It did not worry excessively about national boundaries of which Amazonia does cross. I got this book to review some of the facts of this mighty river as my wife and I travel to Peru including Iquitos in the Amazon. My wife has already skimmed the book.
I found a lot of neat facts presented here. I was unaware of the diversity of the people nor the tragic decimation of them by greedy men trying to get rich. I learned a lot of the early history of some of the Portuguese royalty who came to Brazil. That was fascinating.
Overall, it was interesting, telling just enough to be interesting and leaving out the details that would be tiring.
