I absolutely loved this locked room murder mystery arc, definitely my cup of tea. I loved the cast of characters and I loved the conclusion. For me the story arcs just keep getting better and better. Sebastian is amazing as usual and I even think that Ciel is becoming less whiny (well a little at least). We're also starting to see a little more of the Phantomhive staff and they are all interesting in their own right. I look forward to continuing with the series and I'm excited to see what comes next.
Further tricks are revealed and the murders appear to have been sold, thanks to the mysterious vicar, Jeremy Rathbone, who joins the shrinking number of visitors at the Phantomhive manor. This isn’t enough to satisfy young Arthur, physician and sometime writer, forced to play detective while trapped in Ciel Phantomhive’s estate during a storm. He senses that there’s far more to the mystery and Jeremy. How right he is…
This story was a fun, tense little plot arc with all the trappings of a classic murder mystery, accompanied by plot twists and touches taken from some of the said classics in this genre. Much is revealed, yet much is left to be resolved, leaving me eager to find out what happens next. The events were related mostly from Arthur’s point of view, although there were moments when we saw things from Finny and Meyrin’s perspective. Baldroy, Tanaka, Irene, Ran Mao, Earl Grey, and Woodly all had significant parts to play, which developed their characters in the process. Readers got to meet Jeremy Rathbone, a new character whom is only too familiar to those who’ve seen some of the televised versions of Sherlock Holmes. Plot and character development, along with all the classic touches were delivered in the striking art style which embodies the entire series of Black Butler. For all of this, I give this book four stars.
Oh wait, I'm supposed to write a review for this. Right. So um, well, you were really not that great. You know, considering that I almost fell asleep in the bookstore while reading you. I pretty much would have fallen asleep while reading you but then my friend decided to tell me about the bookish suck fest she had to deal with so I didn't. Fall asleep, that is. Anyway, I don't have much to tell you anymore. Wait. I do. You are a weirdo. You're full of plot holes and you just don't make sense. Can't you just decide what you want to be for a while? You went all Sherlock Holmes/Detective Conan on me with your last volume and before that there was this awful circus arc and now it seems that more weirdness is to come? I gotta admit, it's really hard to stay committed to our relationship if you're like this. Get better and less ridiculous. OK? Thank you very much.
The ending to the mystery was predictable but this arc was pretty entertaining !
I love a murder mystery and this one was quite confusing until the big reveal. We get a new character, Vicar Jeremy Rathbone and it was obvious he's based on Sherlock Holmes. The bit about the pocket watch like please, I am a Sherlock Holmes veteran at this point.😭 He ate but so much about his mannerism gave him away.
Annoyingly for me, it isn't all resolved in this volume but I was going to keep reading this series anyway.😔
It's kinda wild that we are 10 volumes in and there's just like... no overarching plot lol. Maybe just tiny hints it exists but there's no effort to work on it.
It's all very episodic where they just come across a case, deal with it, and then move onto the next without even mentioning the old one. Perfect way to keep this going forever but omg lets get to the point soon.😭 (30+ volumes and still going?? I don't think anytime soon.)

4.5 stars! this one was so fun, i really enjoy murder mysteries, and i loved seeing the other servants get more time to shine. and a little twist at the end! i’m super excited to see what’s going on with the professor. i haven’t read black butler in so long (😣) so i had kind of forgotten what happened in the previous volume, but this one sucked me right back in. so far, the circus arc mighttttt still be my favorite one, but it’s so hard to choose! it just gets better and better with every volume. definitely going to read the next one soon so i don’t forget again lol.
Chapters 43~47Phantomhive Manor Murders Arc "Sebastian would say that a Phantomhive servant who can't handle a minor crisis like a triple murder isn't worth his salt" - He would indeed.
"It was perfectly sized to cover that tiny body of yours. -You always say at least one word too many don't you." - yup, that's definitely Sebastian.
"If I may inspect the bodies now. The dead will be quite helpful. they're both eloquent and honest." - That sounds.. quite.. right..
CW That I Found: Body horror, Death, Violence, Blood, Grief, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
I liked getting to see more of the servants' emotions and backstories in this one. I especially liked getting to see more of Tanaka whom we haven't gotten a lot of time with in previous volumes. It does raise some questions about how he is pretty much just an extra body in the background in most scenes, when it seems like he is still very capable at his older age.

Ms. Toboso is not only a talented author and illustrator, but she is well educated and well read. Imagine that from a manga! She references Sherlock Holmes, classic cinema, and does so effortlessly. I am most impressed and look forward to the next installment in this series.
