Irish islander Caitlin Conner has been in love with professor of Irish folklore Liam O'Sullivan for as long as she can remember. But just when he is starting to look at her as more than a friend, a mysterious woman arrives on Seal Island and captures his heart. As Caitlin discovers the truth behind the woman's lies, she realizes Liam is trapped in a dangerous enchantment and the only way to break the spell is to uncover a secret Irish fairy tale that has remained hidden for hundreds of years. But when the petals of a white rose grown in winter start to fall, the legend is set in motion, and Caitlin must find a way to change the ending before the last petal falls.
USA Today bestselling author Sophie Moss writes magical Irish romances and heartwarming love stories set on the Chesapeake Bay. Drawn to peaceful island settings and the charm of close-knit communities, Sophie sets all her novels in places that feel like home. She grew up in a small, coastal town in Maryland, much like the one featured in her beloved Wind Chime series. She currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, a retired Navy pilot who’s convinced she manifested him in one of her books.
Boring. Liam is an unsympathetic male lead. Caitlin was a grating female lead. Nuala is too stupid to be a good villain. She is supposed to be a selkie with powers to erase memories, and she's too stupid to keep a little kid under control. She lets him run around all day on his own with her enemies, reveals the fact that he doesn't act anything like a normal child. She doesn't even manage to seduce her target. Failed villainess on all front, not worthy to be a selkie, much less The White Selkie.
I really enjoy this series, such rich myth from Ireland mixed with modern times. I love all the engaging and dynamic characters.
Here we have the love story of Caitlin and Liam, who we met in the first book as supporting characters. I had an issue with their story because it goes in a direction other than is implied in the first book. Through their own thoughts and those of their friends, you get the picture of unrequited love. That is not how things are presented here, this book tells of encounters between the two over the span of years. That bothered me, because it was not the first impression I was given.
Aside from my major issue, I did enjoy the story and all the drama mixed in from the fairytale. It was a great mixed narrative, giving POV from the leads and supporting characters. This made for a richer read that includes the reader in all events. I loved being in all their heads and understanding their motivations. It makes you empathize with one of the antagonists. Hard to hate her when you know her story and why she feels she has to do what she does. I do wish there were an epilogue for her.
There are a few heart wrenching moments along the way. Have tissues handy, just in case you get weepy.
The bedroom door is open of the one smexy scene. Not full on erotic detail, but enough to make ya blush!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Hollis McCarthy, who delivers another delightful performance. I adore her lilting Irish accents. Such wonderful variety throughout. There are a few spots where they get less distinct, notably when conversing with an American character. That is the only nitpicking I have. The pace flows with the story and keeps the movement of the story intact.
Overall, I enjoyed this story, just a bit disappointed it wasn't what I expected of the romance. I am very eager to see the results of the next romance. That will definitely finish this trilogy with a bang!!

Ever since reading Sophie Moss’ incredible debut novel, The Selkie Spell, I have been anxiously awaiting the sequel. And let me just say, Moss does not disappoint! She weaves an amazingly vivid story, combining realistic characters who I could relate to with larger-than-life fairy tale legends. Every time I thought I had the whole story figured out, she would surprise me with something so totally captivating and wild, I just had to read more. This novel is an absolute page-turner, a beautiful love story, and an enchanting fairy tale that will have you counting down the days until the release of the third novel in the series!
I like these books. They are quick, and simple. I would like them better if they were a little more in depth. I really wanted these books to be four star reads because of the setting. The story moved too quickly.
I had loved The Selkie Spell, the first book of The Seal Island trilogy, so I knew I was going to love this one too. But I was totally swept off my feet by this book. To say I loved it would be an understatement. 5 totally deserved stars for the amazing and beautifully written story of Caitlin and Liam. I think I mentioned somewhere in my review of The Selkie Spell that I had fallen for Dominic and wished he was real. Well, after reading The Selkie Enchantress I still think Dominic is hot, but Liam is definitely my man! I loved him from the start. Please can someone tell me he's real and where he can be found? I want to marry this guy! And he's Irish, as a bonus! Caitlin is a lovely heroine, sweet and strong at the same time. I loved the way she immediately connected with Owen, the way she took care of him whenever he was frightened. Aww, Owen was the cutest little boy ever! I felt for him from chapter one and at times I found myself wishing I could get into the book a give him a big hug. :) I'm still trying to form an opinion on Glenna, though-I'm not really sure whose side she's on, and the last scene of the book didn't really help with that. I'm really curious to know what's going to happen next. Sam is quite cute and I really hope he gets his redemption in the next book, because he doesn't deserve the treatment he gets from everyone because of what happened in book one. He's a good man and I really hope he gets is HEA eventually. I loved the intricate plot, with all of its twists that kept me turning page after page to know what was going to happen next, and I loved the way reality and magic were beautifully interwoven, making the whole story feel just real, as if this could happen in real life. Just like in the first book, I loved the great ability of the author to describe the setting, making me feel I was actually there, on Seal Island, smelling the scent of the ocean and tasting the salt on my lips. Kudos to the author! She did a great job and I look forward to reading Glenna's story - although I think Caitlin and Liam's will always be my favorite.
Two of my favorite quotes from the book:
"There is no magic stronger than true love."
"I've always thought love-true love-should be based on friendship. Love can't last unless it has strong foundation to grow from. And I believe the strongest foundation is real friendship."
The second installment of the Seal Island Trilogy, The Selkie Enchantress is a stunningly beautiful Irish fairy tale. The characters from the first book, The Selkie Spell are present, together with some new ones. Myths and fairy tales come to life on the island and the residents must stand together against a formidable force. This is a beautiful story of love and friendship; where strangers bring magic, danger and truth to the island once again.
I don't have the words to adequately describe how wonderfully this book is written. I could almost smell the scent of roses and taste the salt in the air while reading, and I felt like I was transported to a windswept Irish island.
I have to admit that although I enjoy a good romance, I am not usually a fan of fairy tale-style romances; however there are 2 authors of this genre whose books I love. Sophie is one of them. It is perhaps her writing that attracts me more than anything - there is just something about it... Sophie's writing is poetic and it completely and utterly captivates me. The Selkie Enchantress is an absolute pleasure to read.
The Selkie Enchantress took my breath away! I literally lost count of how many times I clutched my hand to my chest, awestruck by the gorgeous prose and astounding twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Ms. Moss already won me over as a fan with her first installment in this series, but her sequel far exceeded my expectations. The writing in this novel is so lyrical and heartfelt that I actually felt as though I'd secretly experienced this story in the depths of my soul, and the author had somehow snuck into my dreams at night and transcribed the echoes of my heart onto her pages. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ms. Moss becomes a phenomenon--her talent and depth appear boundless, and she only gets better and better with each book. I loved The Selkie Enchantress so much that I'm hoping it will come out in paperback one day so I can read each word again and again--then tuck it under my pillow at night so it will seep into my dreams. It's THAT GOOD! This is a novel to cherish for many years to come
Once again I was pulled under the Selkie spell. This series is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and the second book didn't disappoint or let me down.
Characters from the first book played parts in this one which I liked. I enjoyed getting to visit them again and see how they are doing.
The new legend that drove this book was a fantastic and I think Ms. Moss did an excellent job of creating a sympathetic villain. As the story progressed and more was revealed, I couldn't help but hope for some sort of good outcome for her. In fact, I'm still hoping for it. Maybe Nuala will find a happy ending in the third book.
The bonds of love and friendship were strong in this and the ending left me wanting more.
The only issue I had with it was at near the end with Liam. I was a little confused as to what exactly happened there, but it wasn't enough to disrupt my enjoyment of the story.
I loved the first book in this series and totally loved the second one just as much. Moss has created a world I'd love to be part of! If only I could visit that island and interact with those characters. Love the mix of Irish lore with fairy tales! An enchanting read for sure. Can't wait for the next book to come out! For those who enjoy magic, romance and double doses of love, this book is for you!
After reading the first book in this series, I had to continue. I dated this book a 5 because just like the first book, it totally drew me in and kept me interested and excited to see what was going to happen next! The author's descriptions of the ocean, mist, cliffs, shoreline made me feel that I was actually. A book with mystery, fantasy, magical happenings - who can resist all that??!! Ireland has always drawn me with it's beautiful scenery, myths, fables and legends. It's one country I've always thought I'd love to visit. Am looking forward to reading the 3rd book in the series. Have already purchased it and will be starting it tonight. Good thing I took a nap today, because I think it's gonna be a long night of reading!!
With an Irish heritage, I’ve heard Selkie stories all my life and half believed in them when I was young and still do even though I’m old. My family has many who are black -haired, blue-eyes, and people joked that we had “selkie blood.” I’ve loved these two books of the trilogy. Though “romance stories” aren’t usually my choice, I love these magical fantasies about Seal Island.
The Seal Island Trilogy is so well written and so spellbinding that I read through the first book and right into this one. The characters are family by now. On my way to Book 3. Can’t wait.
I have read 1 and 2 of the series in 4 days. It made me want to google Irish Folklore. I have had a wonderful vacation in Ireland as well as growing up in family stories. #3 of Seal Island Trilogy is downloading tonight. What more can I say. I need to escape to the Emerald Isle.
A beautiful second story in the trilogy ! The White Selkie story was very interesting and the entire fairy-like properties in the book only added to the story. Sophie Moss is an excellent writer !
I completely enjoyed this second in the Seal Island Trilogy. I love the fantasy and the fairy tales and how the characters support one another and stick together through even the hard times.
Interesting follow-up. I like the new legend of the white selkie. Caitlin and Liam's story was interesting, if predictable, that true love conquers all.

The Selkie Enchantress is the second book of The Seal Island Trilogy and features Caitlin and Liam. Caitlin is Dominic’s (of Book One) best friend and Liam is his brother who works as a professor on the mainland. Unknown to others, Cait and Liam had a romantic past but because Caitlin was too young, she made bad decisions which resulted to heartbreaks. They’ve been friends after that but on the day of Tara and Dominic’s wedding, they became lovers again. After months of constant communication, Liam has decided to stay on the island for good. On his way back to Seal Island for their dinner date, he met Nuala, a mysterious woman who enchanted him. She made him forget about Caitlyn and his newly discovered legend that was hidden for so long. In this second book, it’s now time for Caitlin and Liam to fight for their love and to meet someone connected to their secret past.
Damn! Sophie Moss just raised the trilogy to a higher level! The Selkie Enchantress is stunning, captivating, so beautiful and heart-tugging! It’s a modern day fusion of fairy tales and true romance that took my breath away. The story was excellently written and enchanting. I liked the first book but I LOVED this book. This is definitely a lot better than The Selkie Spell. I really love how the author mixes everything here. Irish myth, contemporary, mystery, fantasy, a fusion of the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast all rolled into one. I loved the twists and magic in the book. Moss has a knack of weaving fascinating mysteries and tales that leaves you wanting to know everything.
Liam is hot! He’s way hotter than Dominic (my opinion!) and I just love his character. He’s strong, caring, kind, intelligent, and he absolutely loves Caitlin even when he doesn’t remember what they are to each other. Who doesn’t want a sexy, handsome professor? Definitely not me! Caitlin, on the other hand, hides so many heartaches, that she became so good in showing people how strong she is emotionally. She has a very big heart and has so much room for love and caring that she even takes care of Owen even though she knows that he was Nuala’s son. I loved her for that and I loved the twist Moss made on her character and Owen’s. The other characters in the Book One still play important roles in this book. Just like in the first book, I’m once again drawn to Glenna. I just love her character. She’s so strong and mysterious. She doesn’t want to reveal her true self but she loves the people on the island and is willing to help them no matter what. Sam is definitely my favorite guy in this trilogy! Even though he’s the reason why Tara has been found by her husband, he quickly realized his mistakes and decided to switch sides right on time. He’s a good guy and wants redemption for everything he had done. He’d do anything for Tara and the rest of the family to atone for his sins. Another character that made an impact on me is Nuala. I just can’t seem to hate her in this book, even with all the pain she’s caused Caitlin. For me she was just another victim of circumstance taken advantage by another. Even with all the things she’d done, there’s still goodness inside her.
I’m giving The Selkie Enchantress 5 STARS. I realized I can’t give it anything less. It was stunning, enchanting, beautifully written, has exciting twists and plot, and characters to love. I love how Moss maintained the fairy tale quality in this dark tale. That no matter what happens, true love is still the strongest thing there is; and that it can overcome everything. I recommend this to all paranormal romance fans. I wish everyone of the right age can read this. You’ll be amazed how wonderful and heartfelt this book is.
Sometimes there is nothing better than losing yourself in a great fantasy story. But what I love even more is stories where the fantasy elements are neatly entwined with everyday life making the story both realistic and relatable to readers, giving you the perfect balance of the unknown and the everyday struggles we face. The Selkie Enchantress embodies all of this, and is quite simply a brilliant and beautifully written story which leaves you feeling content long after you have turned the last page.
Sophie Moss has a stunning writing style, which just flows so beautifully and naturally throughout her work. Her descriptions of the Irish coastline and Seal Island just give you a perfect sense of place and makes you wish you could visit the locations for a weekend retreat to escape from the world. I adored returning to the Island with this second installment of the Selkie Trilogy and loved seeing the characters we were introduced to in ‘The Selkie Spell’.
Caitlin’s story was a real heartbreaker for me, and I’m sure everyone else reading this book will agree. I loved her character in ‘The Selkie Spell’ but had no inkling that she was hiding so painful a secret from her friends, and I commend her for her strength and how much she sacrificed for what she believed was best for others. The emotion with which author Sophie Moss wrote these scenes with Caitlin was stunning and I doubt there is a person with a heart who would not feel it hurt for Caitlin and Liam and the struggles they have. Without giving too much away, I will only say that the end of the chapter in which they find a baby’s rattle washed up on the beach, gave me chills, and I felt the thrill you get when reading a great emotional and suspenseful novel. The way that the baby’s rattle symbolises the innocence of those who have been taken advantage of by creatures more powerful was just brilliant.
The fantastical elements were written to perfection, and as with ‘The Selkie Spell’, there wasn’t a single moment where I thought the story was becoming unrealistic ot taken too far. The way that the fantasy was deeply entwined with the myths and legends that many Irish grow up believing made the story seem real and believable.
The mysterious Nuala’s reasons for her actions (again I’m being purposely vague so as not to ruin the story), were not only sad but also show just how much love and power can drive people to do terrible things. The fact that Sophie Moss was able to make us both hate and pity Nuala, and feel joy and sadness when Owen was set free from Nuala’s grasp, gives credit to what a fantastic writer she is. I was so happy to see how Owen blossomed with his new family, yet I felt sad that he had lost the woman he’d always looked to as his mother. The fact that he had been cruelly taken and used for another’s means was heartbreaking.
Caitlin and Liam’s story was an emotional one and I loved every second of it. I’m so excited to read Sam and Glenna’s story now, as I can tell there will be some fireworks between those two…In more ways that one!
Caitlin has loved Liam since they were kids, but the timing has never been right for them. Finally, things looked to be turning their way at Tara and Dominick's wedding. Tonight was to be their first official date, she made a special dinner and wore a dress, but he was late. Where could he be? Liam rode the ferry home carrying a bouquet of yellow roses for Caitlin thinking about tonight when the woman on the ferry started talking to him. As they approached the docks, Liam went to help tie off, and he slipped. So unlike Liam. Now he remembers nothing of his relationship with Caitlin or his research, and seems be be under this new woman's spell. The whole island is wondering what is going on. The Selkie Enchantress is a novel of one woman trying to take for herself what is not hers to take by force, and what happens when a whole town turns out to try to prevent that. Sophie Moss has created a story where the whole island is awash with the paranormal and receptive to it, so when something strange is going on they all rally to the cause.
The Selkie Enchantress is the second book in the Seal Island Trilogy, but it can stand alone on it's own. I have not read the first book and was not hampered in understanding the story at all. Caitlin and Liam are the focus of this book, and although they are sure to have been mentioned in the first as other characters in this book would have been the focus of that book, it is nice to have that continuation. I found all I needed to really know in this book, Sophie Moss did a wonderful job in allowing this book to stand on it's own and not depend on the other books so much that you had to have read them all to understand the story. This is a great book for adults who want to add a little Irish folklore and legends or myths to their romance. It is a well written and delightful story for all readers.
The Selkie Enchantress by Sophie Moss is a wonderful follow up to the first book in the Seal Island Trilogy, The Selkie Spell. The story centers on Caitlin and Liam, who are Dominic’s (the bar owner in Selkie Spell) best friend and his brother who works in Galway as a professor. As the story unravels, we learn that Caitlin and Liam were romantic as teenagers. While they remained friends over the years, they rekindled their romance starting on Tara and Dominic’s wedding day. After months of long-into-the-night conversations, Liam decides to move back to the island. But, on the ferry ride back to Seal Island, he meets Nuala, who casts him under her spell, making him forget all about Caitlin and his decades-long love for her.
The Selkie Enchantress far exceeded my expectations and was better than the first story in the trilogy. It is a wonderful mix of fairy tale and mystery. It’s a blend of Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid. Like in most fairy tales, you can’t help but sympathize with Nuala, who attempts to steal Liam for herself. Like Caitlin, Nuala made some bad decisions when she was a teenager. I’d love to know what happened to her!
As with the first book, Hollis McCarthy did an outstanding job narrating. Her lilting Irish accents accentuated the story, giving it a fairytale quality. Hollis had differing voices for all of the characters, and her narration flowed naturally and kept the story moving. I can’t wait for book #3 in audio!
Still a decent read, but characters feel a bit clumsy here and there.
A nice follow up to book 1, again with the Ireland-based romance + Irish folklore + a strong dose of Hans Christian Anderson fantasy.
Whilst the plot, grammar, writing are as good as the first book, I had to take off 1 star because I felt most of the characters had quite a strong dose of sheer bullheadedness to the point of stupidity. No one wanted to communicate, and practically most if not all of the problems that happened in the book could've been solved/ been less facepalmingly angsty with just a simple "help me/ i have a problem". I get that this was being used to forward the plot, but it was a bit too heavy handed and "convenient".
I felt both children were a bit out of character, the voice and vocabulary they speak in is indistinguishable from the adult characters, which caused a bit of a break in the whole suspension-of-disbelief thing. That, and there's a whole lot of permissive parenting going on in Kelsey's case, as she never seems to face any disciplinary (mild or otherwise) consequences from when she decides to be naughty/ disobey her parents. <--unrealistic or potential spoiled princess in the making?
So overall, a fluffy and fun (if somewhat annoying) read.
The Selkie Enchantress takes off about 3 months after The Selkie Spell ends, with Dominic's brother Liam, and his best friend Caitlin as protagonists. Again, Sophie Moss writes satisfying romance. While her first book used a very real problem of domestic violence with a bit of magic tied into the plot, The Selkie Enchantress goes all out with fantasy and magic.
One thing I will say again and again about Ms. Moss' writing style: I LOVE how she doesn't bend down to tactics used in other romance novels, to write something seen as titillating at the sake of society's viewpoint of women. She creates strong and masculine male love interests who don't bully their women, push them around, or take advantage of them. Anyone who disrespects women is seen as an antagonist, such as the abusive husband in the Selkie Spell.
It just makes me wonder... so many romance novels are written by women, and most women I know would like to see better treatment of women... is it so hard to portray that in their fiction? Sophie Moss did. She's proved twice, so far, that you can create a strong and respectful man, and a strong and independent woman, and still keep a steamy romance plot.
