The sewers of NYC have always been home to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... but what else has been nesting in the deep dark? A series of strange occurrences leads the Turtles into long forgotten tunnels. What they find there should have been left alone, for as light fades ands wall narrow- bone chilling terror awaits!
I'd actually rank this closer to a 4 1/2 star, if Goodreads allowed. The artwork is prettier than I'm used to for TMNT, and the premise for this particular series is shaping up to be darker, grittier, and more unsettling than I've ever seen from them. I'd actually be tempted to compare it to a World of Darkness crossover of some sort.
They took off the kid gloves, and I think I like it.
Favorite quote:
"You know, for the nerdiest of four five-foot mutant turtles -- who fight regularly with a gang led by a pirate Cat Man -- you're a lot less open-minded than I'd figured." --Mikey
I fucking hated Infestation, but I LOVED this. It's TMNT vs. Lovecraftian horrors, and as a masssive fan of both Ninja Turtles and cosmic horror, reading this was like a dream come true.
I had always wanted to see TMNT in a true horror situation and I am not exaggerating when I say this is exactly what I asked for. This is gruesome and has that scary Lovecraftian feel to it. I was almost wondering if this was actually TMNT, but lo and behold it is. I love the dark directions IDW is taking with the turtles. As much as I love the cutesy Nickelodeon turtles (and I do love them very, very much) I also love seeing them in these darker, more frightening, more disturbing situations.
The artwork is gritty, which adds to the creepy atmosphere. It’s rare that I see this type of unique artwork and I find that it works so well with the frightening plot. They’ve already given you a good storyline to work off of and you can almost piece together what is going on down there in the sewers.
So just a bit of information, Infestation started out as giant crossover event from IDW featuring zombies. Now they have divided it up into several different comics such as Transformers, G.I. Joe, D&D, etc. For TMNT thus far it is unique to it’s own world, but based on the summary of volume 3 I believe it may crossover with another comic. Not positive so we'll just have to see. In the meantime I'm looking forward to the next one!
