Part of the Wizardology series, this particular book contains a few more pieces of information to others in the series, but it's more geared towards activity than information. Illustrations are second to few, but the mythology of wizards is a little lacking.
I read this book as research for a fantasy story I'm writing. Good source of information and the stickers at the end of the book were a nice touch. If you're reading this book for any other purpose, it's kind of boring and not all that entertaining.
This book offers activity ideas for children based on tales about wizards. I found it a bit silly. On the other hand, the Dutch translation was rather stiff and official, not at all child friendly.
Books like this are fun for people of all ages. Great for a quick read consisting Fantasy, Mythological Creatures, and Magic- With some historical elements behind them as well.
I always wanted "Wizardology" as a kid but I could never find it. Then on day when I was in 4th grade I went to borders with my mom and found this book instead. It was a nice substitute. A very beautifully illustrated book and an enjoyable enough read, with some references to real modern day practices of magic, such as "Merlin" using the phrase "mote it be" occasionally. It also has folk stories from the real world such as "Ma Liang and the magical paint brush," a reference to "Jack and the beanstalk" when discussing magic beans, and so on. So you might learn a few folk tales from reading this book. This book might also help with ideas for coding or decoding messages with a complete "lesson" on "Wizard Codes" and a few charts showing alchemical symbols. And of course this book mentions quite a few magical creatures, along with a few other subjects. So if you're into any of the above mentioned subjects, or perhaps have "Wizardology" or any of the other "Ology" books, it's a nice enough book to have.
I think I got this book on the bargain table at a school book fair. I got it for my class library. It was fun and a tiny bit humorous, but I'm not really sure what the point is. The book pretends that you are a wizard's apprentice trying to learn the secrets of wizardology but it's not that exciting. There aren't many illustrations.
I just don't really see what the purpose is or who the intended audience is. I can't imagine any of my fifth graders really liking it.
I have to say, I was thoroughly disappointed with this handbook. It was very childish in comparison with the other ology books, as if everything was made up with no sense added to it. Also, the way they talk about wizards suggests that they are creatures with habits that can be studied like an animal.
I thought this was a fun book. It had some good info, fun stories, and didn't take itself too seriously. I felt like it was respectful to other spiritualities and I liked that there was a strong focus on ethics, including the Rule of Three and giving warnings about being greedy and etc. I will definitely keep an eye out for the Wizardology book this is a companion to.
Ah, a nice safe book based on general magical (mythical) sources rather than "Expelliarmus!" Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's good to branch out of the Potterverse and learn more about creatures that appear in other fantasy books.
An interesting look into this pseudo historical wizard world. I was embarrassingly into this as a child and tried to do all the incantations to no effect.
