Name : 冰川京子 (ひかわきょうこ)

Blood type : A

Likes Jackie Chan movies and American movies like BIG. Also cats, but not enough to own one. One of her favorite activities is decorating and creating useful objects for her home. Hates mosquitoes and cockroaches. Has enormous trouble in bicycle parks.

Does mostly light-hearted comedy stories, but very entertaining. She does surprisingly great action scenes (haven't seen many shoujo artists try at a Western before!!).

Her stories ranges from cute to action, but all done unparalled attention - the drawings are refined and the storylines bring the readers into what the characters feel. Her page layouts and camera angles varies a lot, and thus keeps the interest of the reader.

"Don't leave me! I'm not just being nice. I love you!"

So last volume, my reactions were thus:

And now I am in shock. The good kind, because my ship not only set sail, it sailed the flipping world.

So Noriko is finally told that "Hey, you know you're the Awakening" and she immediately realizes "Oh...no wonder Izark didn't let me near him. He's been suffering because of me this whole time, but he's been too nice to push me away!" And I was crying along with her because the FEELS were getting too intense.

Noriko does the right thing. Izark is rushing to save her from this crazy self serving woman. Mind you Noriko was nearly sacrificed earlier and not only does she get away, but she freaking rushes over and embraces Izark who's gone almost bat-shit-insane. Thank goodness though that for some reason her Awakening powers snapped him out of it. Or the power of love. And don't worry, this is not done in a cheesy way.

Crazy woman not only tells Noriko the truth but she intends to capture her. So Noriko goes all whoop-ass on her. She gets away and then BAM Izark runs after her. Crazy woman leaves the scene and Noriko basically tells off Izark for keeping everything a secret-and I agreed with her-and Izark tries to calm her down but he's in the wrong here no matter how you try to say it.

And then BAM!! Noriko runs away cuz she ain't got no time for this-let's be honest, I'm sure we all would do the same-and Izark finally mans up and declares his love for her.

And the BEST part? He cries!!! Do you know how attractive it is when a man can let out his emotions and be vulnerable? In the US, it's expected that men be men, so NO feelings! Excuse me. We are all human and crying is not limited to the female population.

And LOST IN TRANSLATION!!! Yes, I am learning Japanese. No, my Japanese is not the best. However, as I was reading the scans along with my Japanese copy, I noticed some things that made a huge difference in dialog. When Izark is asking Noriko to stay with him and falls to the ground, he says "頼む" pronounced as Tah-No-Moo. This is a literal way of begging someone. So instead of how the translators made Izark say, "Please" Izark was literally saying "I beg of you!" or "I'm begging you!" THAT is so much more romantic.

There were other nitpicks I had with the translations, but for the most part, those didn't really affect anything. I just wanted to point out that one dialog choice.

I only own the Japanese copy for volumes 7, 9, and 12. As such, I had to find other ways to read those volumes, but I did support the author. VIZ REPRINT THIS SERIES

Se vio un re avance en la historia y eso me re gustó. Siento que esto que pasa acá es un antes y un después en la trama y que van a ir cambiando algunas cosas. Ya quiero saber como sigue!

What an emotional rollercoaster this volume was!

The beginning of the volume literally kicks off right where the previous volume ended and is an action packed adventure all the way to the end. We see their are other demons in this world (at least according to this new one we meet) and not only that, Izark fully "looses" it. He embraced that inner rage and it was pretty astounding.

But why Izark is fighting anyone and everyone to get to Noriko, Noriko is being a heroine I continue to be more and more proud of with every volume! Her bravery is everything and were some of my favorite parts, even if things that happened near the end had me internally sobbing because no no no!

Though OH MY GOODNESS TO THAT ONE MOMENT!! YES YES YES!!!! It definitely had me jaw-dropping before that with all the build up to that specific moment, but it was so worth it (even if I was completely on edge)!!

I keep forgetting to mention it but some of these pages and panels are absolutely stunning!! I really really really love the art in this manga. Absolutely beautiful and the way she can convey emotion is so on point. (Honestly, Izark's resolve in that one oh my goodness scene was legit everything. You can clearly SEE the resolve in his facial expression.)

Surprisingly the ending wasn't a cliff hanger, but it leaves me feeling all the things. I'm not sure what is going to happen next but I'm looking forward to counting being on this amazing adventure!!

This seventh installment of Kyoko Hikawa's fourteen-volume manga epic, which follows the story of star-crossed lovers Noriko, a Japanese schoolgirl mysteriously transported to an alien world where her coming (as "The Awakening") has been foretold, and Izark, a wandering warrior destined to be transformed by the Awakening into a terrible sky demon, sees some key developments in the storyline. As Izark, having magically reattached his arm(!!) after it was sliced off by Banna at the end of the last installment, races to save Noriko from the demon Mokumen and his followers, who intend to use her as a sacrifice in order to increase their own powers, his strong emotions begin to transform him, and by the time he has confronted his enemies he has assumed the guise of the monster he fears he is doomed to become. It takes Noriko to bring him back to himself, but when the two escape from Mokumen's temple, and confront the seeress Tazasheena in the woods outside of town, her revelations about their respective identities sets a new crisis in motion. Will Noriko, now aware of who she is, and what she is destined to do to Izark, abandon her erstwhile protector? Will he let her...?

As the conclusion of this seventh volume marks the halfway point in the series, the answer to these questions is: obviously not! Clearly these two have plenty of adventures still before them. Action-packed and lots of fun to read, this episode contained quite a few exciting fight scenes, but it also included some lovely moments depicting the development of Noriko and Izark's relationship. Izark's confession, wrest from him in a moment of desperation, when he believes that Noriko is leaving him, that he wants to stay with her because he loves and needs her, not (just) because he is being "nice," is very well done, and the scene in which he kisses her is both humorous (her wide-eyed surprise!) and heartwarming. The separation of our hero and heroine from their erstwhile companions is somewhat sad, but then, I suspect they'll be reappearing in the story, at some point. In sum: a strong episode in an engrossing series! Now the wait begins for episode eight to arrive in the mail...

Devastated & not ready to be separated from Noriko, & hearing Lord Mokumen's plans for Noriko, he activates all of his powers in front of his friends, to their shock and horror. He reattaches his severed arm then follows Banna to their HQ, attacking all those who gets in his way. Meanwhile Noriko is delivered to Lord Mokumen & meets Waazalotte & Tazasheena.
Izark begins destroying the palace when he thinks Noriko is dead.
Lord Mokumen leaves his pool to deal with the intruder himself but ends up defeated.
Izark continues to transform & destroys more of the palace. Meanwhile Tazasheena begins to figure out who the intruder is, & who Noriko is, after she escapes her captors & heads towards the danger zone.
Noriko reunites with Izark, who begins to transform back to normal.
Tazasheena abandons Waazalotte to inform Lord Rachef that she found the sky demon & the Awakening but not before informing Lord Mokumen who Izark really is & attempting to kidnap Noriko while Izark was busy. But Noriko escapes her, taking away her chimos.
After Izark defeated Lord Mokumen, he goes after Noriko, forcing Tazasheena to retreat. Noriko finally understands the situation & why Izark keeps pushing her away. She tries to give him what he wants but he finally admits that he loves her & beg her to stay with him, which she accepts.
Izark & Noriko watch their friends leave Guzena, as they come to terms with what they've recently discovered.

This volume felt like the end to a very large arc, and I do believe that it was. The way it ended almost felt like the end to the first season of a show that wasn’t sure if it would get renewed for a second season or not. Actually, I do believe I’ve read manga before that had such an unsatisfactory ending without more to come, so I’m glad that this manga has an equal amount more than what was just finished, totaling in 14 volumes.
This volume concluded a good half of the troubles faced within all content previous. Noriko has become quite accustomed to the native language and way of life by now, in addition to that, her and Izark are at long last standing equal to each other. Neither is hiding a thing and both of them are aware of and reciprocate each other's feelings. It's wonderful to see Izark finally open up to her and let himself be with her and be weak for her and only her. I love them both and I love all the friends they had made along the way. From here on out, things are likely to somehow manage to get even more exciting than before.

Finally, I got to find out the answer to the burning question of what would happen to Izark! I hate cliffhangers!!!!

The battle is fierce. Everyone shows their true colors and we get to start figuring out exactly what that means. More than one heart is exposed and the consequences...will be heavy. Overall I'm still completely engaged with this story and cannot wait to read more. Wow, this is a great series! Noriko did not meekly go off to die - I love how strong and defiant she is.

Finally returning to complete this series after almost six months...

I love seeing Izark lose control and shift into his Sky Demon form. I do not love that Noriko's helplessness is practically a personality trait or that it shows up in Every. Single. Chapter. Like, girl, I am begging you to please do something! I like that this volume marks a turning point in the plot as Izark's and Noriko's secret identities are finally found out by their friend group.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the best volume of From Far Away so far, and that's saying a lot as this series is brilliant. Our hero and heroine are finally on the same page! The Sky Demon design is so creepy and cool, and it's impressive how Izark and Noriko's relationship toes the line between angsty and sweet without ever being cheesy. I sense that there's a lot of heartache to come...

I’ve been slowly trying to collect the different volumes now that this is out of print. This is one of my favorite volumes bc of the epic palace battle scene and their discussion in the bamboo grove!

oh my goodness

Ahh, the sweet release of delayed gratification coming to fruition (sort of). Izark finally accepted his demonic side and admitted to Noriko that he, too, loves her. :3

It felt more like a 2 though after the last book I read.
