Dan, Jeff and Evan have a well established relationship by now. They get along well and they'd created a lot of good memories together. Memories like…

Dan thought of Jeff's long, artistic fingers and smiled to himself. A canvas. That was what Evan had let himself become. A way for Dan and Jeff to express themselves: their desire, their love, their playfulness…everything they were. Dan let his mind drift, let himself remember the dazed, disconnected look on Evan's face as Dan had eased into him, the soft, breathy sounds he'd made. And Jeff had been right with them, his hands roaming all over both of their bodies, his lips warm and firm…

But the perfect idyll can't last for long. Dan gets an upsetting phone call from his sister Krista who is pregnant and anxious. She's a fugitive and wants to turn herself in. Sometimes it's a little bit awkward to be in a threesome instead of a traditional relationship, but there are times when it's very convenient to have a team helping each other out. Right now this is such a crucial moment in Dan's life, and he knows that he can count on Evan and Jeff to support him.

"I was on my way, anyhow. I thought I might go for a ride, clear some cobwebs out before I started a new project." He felt like a sap, but he leaned over anyway and pressed a kiss to the spot just below Dan's ear. "I missed you."
(…)
"It's…it's a weird situation. But we'll sort it out, right?" His voice was mostly confident. Mostly sure that his partners would be there for him. But, as always, there was that tiny trace of insecurity that threatened to break Jeff's heart.
"Absolutely," Jeff said firmly. He shuffled back and to the side, not far, just enough so that he could wrap his arms around Dan's warm shoulders. "We'll sort it out."

Evan nuzzled his chin into the crook of Dan's neck, finding the spot that always made Dan squirm and laugh. "I love you, Danny."
"You get so fucking sappy after I let you top," Dan responded, but he didn't move away. "We should stick a spigot in you, drain it out, and boil up some syrup."
"If you stick your spigot in me, I wouldn't be the one topping anymore."
"Nice. You freak."
"You were the one who wanted to make syrup out of my sappiness," Evan protested, and he started to ease his body away.

Once again Evan is ready and very determined to throw some money around. Lawyers, bail, and security guards cost quite some dough after all. Dan's sister agreed to fully cooperate with law enforcement and is living on Evan's premises for the time being. Besides, as soon as she will be convicted she's going to do some serious jail time and she needs someone who will look after her baby. I don't want to give away too much but prepare yourself to deal with more arguments between Dan and Evan regarding the unborn baby. Besides, divergences of opinion are bound to occur. Of course Jeff needs to intervene again to calm the waves.

"Jesus, Evan. Don't let Dan hear you talking that way." Jeff wasn't sure if he wanted to hear Evan talking that way.
Evan just rolled his eyes. "I'm not stupid, Jeff. Dan's…he's a romantic. An idealist. I know that. And I like that about him. I have no idea how he ended up that way, after everything he's been through, but I like it." He smiled at Jeff, calm and confident and powerful. "But I'm not. I'm the practical one. I'm the one who makes things happen. I'm the one who makes the world work for people like Dan."

Yeah, it's just a question of how someone makes things happen. Don't get me wrong. Evan's enthusiasm is adorable, but Dan's cautious demeanor and his integrity are also very appealing and honorable. Though Dan's integrity did infuriate Evan and he felt he needed to take some action. Having said this, the way he handled Also, Evan totally disappointed me when he exposed Dan intentionally to hurt him. Moreover, he wanted to hurt him and he knew that Dan was vulnerable but he did it nonetheless. That was a real low blow and so not all right. It made me angry.

For once steady and mature Jeff irritated me when he didn't take his Anyway, I really hope he won't do it again. Never. Ever. Jeff really scared me.

"We always do this. We're really good about communication when we have nothing important to talk about, but when something comes up, we get busy and lose track of each other. When we should be talking the most, we talk the least."

 photo tumblr_mjzn77BoYm1qfmc6ho1_500_zps4f2324fa.gif

Dan was sweeter in the studio, less concerned about control. It was like he'd bend himself to Jeff's will while he posed, and then didn't shake the attitude off for a while.

 photo tumblr_lzv1jkthGO1r3s7wso1_500.gif

This wasn't the first time Jeff had asked Dan to strip for him, and every time, Jeff thought maybe he should give up the painting and become a filmmaker. It seemed wasteful, almost sacrilegious to hoard all this beauty for himself. Then he thought about letting anyone else see the film and realized that he would never be able to stand it. He could barely manage to let go of his portraits of Dan.

Of Dark and Bright is a great conclusion to the 'Dark' series, and I'm super happy that I gave this wonderful series a go. Quarrels, action, some lovely intimate moments and steamy sex scenes provided a good and very entertaining combo. And even though the plot is a little bit crazy and there are…er…a few medical emergencies, I really enjoyed this story and it saddens me very much to see this series come to an end. I'll be checking out Kate Sherwood's backlist and I'm already looking forward to reading more by this author.

"They've got me wrapped around their little fingers because I'm in love with them. Crazy, stupid, head-over-f@cking-heels in love. I know it's tough, sometimes, but the reason I get in the middle of their fights is because that's right where I want to be. No matter what they're doing, no matter how f@cking immature and infuriating they are, I want to be with them. In the middle of it all. Always." --Jeff <3 <3 <3

Of Dark and Bright is the last book in the Dark Horse Series. As always, I loved being with Dan, Jeff, and Evan. I wish this one was a bit longer so we could have seen more of them working on their problems. I felt like the issue with Jeff and the crisis with Tat only served to cover everything up. What happened with Tat went overboard and it seems a bit contrived.

I still feel like Evan's on the sidelines, even though I know he brings on a lot of the trouble himself. It's the little things between Jeff and Dan (the hand holding or how they always look to each other for comfort) that I don't feel between Evan and Dan or even Evan and Jeff. There is a lack of intimacy. This was easier to accept in the first two books because those were about Dan's journey in finding Jeff and Evan and finding his place in the relationship. In this one I expected to feel as if all three men were a complete unit, especially since it included Evan and Jeff's POV's, and the fact that this was supposed to be 2 years later. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case for me. I think this book strayed from the format of the first two books. There were too many extraneous events happening all at once and it felt forced.

Regardless of these shortcomings, I enjoyed this series very much. I'll just have to accept that they all love each other equally even though they have very different bonds with one another.

Ok, this is me taking a deep breath and trying to find a way to get my thoughts in order. I waited to write this review, wrote all the others for this series first, so I didn't let my grumpiness about Evan and a few of the twists and turns of this story bleed into them.
First, there are some awesome reviews what this book is about, so I'm not going to really go I to all of it and again ( I know, I keep saying it, but it deserves repeating) this series really does show flawed men trying to make a difficult relationship between them work. It doesn't gloss over problems and they don't get any easier or any less, despite the amount of books in this series. I do love that about these books!
Dan, Evan and Jeff have held my attention and my interest throughout every story! the side and supporting characters are well done and just as interesting.
But this book has a lot going on, and for me! it was too much and it didn't really fit into the rest of the series or how I saw this trios life.
Dan's fugitive, pregnant sister shows up, Evan helps with money and connections, but then pulls some pretty bad shit, again, it's all about what Evan wants and needs and how he does it is is really crappy. That is NOT how you try and have a real relationship, with one or two other people. Asshat.
Then the whole drama around Krista ( Dan's sister) and her baby, and the show-down. Yep, too much dramarama for me and again, it just felt totally out of place in this whole series.
I KNOW if the whole Krista situation had ended up on the editors floor/delete key/ scrap paper pile I would have been much, much happier. Alas, she and her whole over the top plot twist she brought with her irritated me no end.
And, this is a biggie. Evan and Dan have had a lot of arguments and misunderstandings throughout these books, and all in all I was fine with that, but in this one Evan says and does some stuff that I was not able to get over. He says things to Dan in the barn, horrible, mean, hurtful things and because of some thing that happens right after that I never felt it was resolved. I really needed Evan to grovel and I needed to KNOW he gets it, that he knows how way over the line he was. I always knew he wanted everything his way, and wasn't too picky about how he gets it, he's rich and powerful, I get it, but the things he said to Dan. I can not forgive him, and he didn't even try to change my mind. Sorry, that ruined it for me. I wanted him gone.
There is talk about them going to counseling together and I really really wish that had been shown and if I had gotten to see progress or a different behavior pattern from them I would have ( maybe) gotten over my skepticism. As it was, it was just a throw away comment.
Then there is little RJ, now he plays a huge roll in the last free short One Bright Star and it felt to me like RJ was now the 'magic potion' to make it all harmonious and better between them. Um..sorry, babies do not 'fix' relationships, if anything they stress them more.
So, while I did on a whole love this series and the way the men had to fight themselves and each other for their happiness and relationship, the twists this one took was a little ridiculous for me and then Evan's crowning as the King of Asshat took away some of my happy.
I'd still recommend this series to ménage fans and since there are so many in the series you do get a lot of story and more than enough of emotions.

This time around, I could take my time and appreciate the complexities of this relationship. First time around I was head over heals in love and hoping for rose lenses and HEA.

I still adore the series. I always will and so I will keep my rating as is because I don’t like changing things after that first experience.

Evan really pushed me to get a little physical there for quite a few moments throughout the book. I’m talking SLAP-UPSIDE-THE-HEAD-REALLY-HARD physical people. Not lick him like an ice-cream physical.

Well he wasn’t the only one. I have to admit. BUT!! The way he uses sensitive information to HURT people he loves makes me wonder how far this relationship will really go in the end. Because you can’t just say hurtful things and then expect people to trust you with their emotions and hears again after you said you are sorry. That kite will only fly for so long. Right?

Dan had total ‘oblivious’ moments. But hey, that’s Dan.

And Jeff, I liked seeing him a little more “human” or vulnerable, but also, he is the responsible one. I know he was scared, and I blame a part of his ‘ignore-it-and-it-will-go-away” approach squarely on the shoulders of Dan and Evan.

They are so wrapped up in their own nonsense and so used to Jeff always being the referee that no one ever stops and things about him. Not one of them “takes-care-of-Jeff”. There is a moment in book 2 where Dan is worries about his thoughts and head-space and dammit if I wasn’t proud of him for that. But book three has lots and lots and lots of distractions for both Dan and Evan and Jeff just falls of their radar there.

It’s still a really great book. A really great series. But I can appreciate the people who couldn’t look over these little niggles in the end. Even though I still love it dearly.

This is one of my fav'es. For sure. I think it was done really well and it just made me feel it. I really really liked it.

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this and read it in one sitting. I'm really attached to these guys. This book wasn't as emotional as the other two, despite some pretty serious events, but I did like being in all three men's heads. I think the POV changes helped me understand Evan better, in particular.

I wish the book had been a little longer. And moved at a slower pace from issue to issue between the guys. Jeff may have been glad that the concatenation of events kept the guys from focusing on his serious problem. But I wished there had been time to get the emotions surrounding each of those serious issues out there longer. Each emotional build seemed to be interrupted by yet another crisis before I had time to wallow as much as I would have liked. Still highly recommended for fans of the series, and boy do I want to see what comes next. There's some baggage between them that still hasn't been unpacked, especially left over from Dan's childhood. Maybe Kate Sherwood can be bribed to write more for us...

Another good book of this series! I loved the different POV's, and it was nice to see the emotions and insecurities of these three wonderful men!

There were some things that I thought that were a little too much

I love Dan, Evan and Jeff! They make, definitly, an unforgetable trio!

“He was Jeff’s, and he was Evan’s, and whatever was happening, he just needed to remember that.”

giphy-8

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ It had me for a hot minute - and I mean, a hot minute, especially when the three of them were making syrup out of their sappiness, where I actually felt this feeling like a better book than the last few looks into their relationship. But then, faster than the galloping hooves, it subtly but surely reminded me why I will never have my cake and eat it, too. For whenever Dan and Evan are on the brink of a break-away, Jeff's own ailing health has to step in and put the actual chance for communication on the back-burner. 😥

“They’ve got me wrapped around their little fingers because I’m in love with them. Crazy, stupid, head-over-fucking-heels in love.”

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ I would have liked for Dan and Evan to then actually address the elephant in the room that was the hurtful words they spewed at each other, before they rushed to care for 'the glue that holds the idealist and the pragmatist together'. 🥺 Again, rightfully so, but it left me frustrated at how it was brushed under the rug, like that. Give me that blow-out, or heck, give the chance for them to forgive or see where the other is coming from, rather than for having a much more emotional distraction that prevents them from hashing it out! And then, to add insult to injury, the drama llama of a telenovela that ensued after had me all but wondering what on earth did I walk into???? 😭😭

giphy-9

I don't think I could say it better. 😅

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ It didn't help matters either that just as much as Jeff and Chris are frustrated in the rather odd way in which Dan and Evan do work out their "issues", they've more than readily accepted that it's just simply how they roll - 'annoying little kids, not the cute, well-behaved kind.' And if it ain't broke, then don't fix it kind of mentality of sentimentality that has me scratching my head.... 🙄

See, I'm my own walking talking contradiction. 🙃

“I love you, Dan. You love me. We both love Jeff, and he loves us back. It’s not traditional, but that doesn’t mean it’s less. Right?”

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The good news is that the author DID learn that YES! raders NEED perspectives from all three characters! It only took two books and seven+ short stories to realize, but I count that as a win, if there ever was one. 😌 It certainly elevated the reading experience, I tell you; there was no other way to capture the shades Of Dark and Bright that was their unique dynamic. To truly feel the intensity of the resounding conflicts - health scares and troubling insecurities - fears of not being of each other's caliber - not to mention passionate innuendo and cheeky desires from all three sides. 🥰🥰

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ I still may never warm up to Jeff, but I'm glad he respected himself enough to take a backseat and know in his heart where his heart is with the two young'uns. Considering the bombshell that was dropped on Dan, who still was 'a tough little commoner. He’s got a lot of heart, and he gets shit done.' I found him slightly less drama queen-ish than before, even with his cautious, almost suspicious approach, but considering the final outcome, I'm willing to cut him some slack. 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ As for Evan - I'm not gonna lie. Even with his enthusiasm and reluctance to leap before looking, I didn't think he's always at fault, especially when it comes to Dan's behavior or reactions, nor for his concern for Tat. So, yeah, maybe they do deserve each other! 😅

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Even when their stubbornness has them butting heads, there is still a fierce layer of protectiveness and care that is wrapped around them. It was nice to see them break ground on where each of them stands in this unique setup they have going for each other - the concern and care that went forth. 🩶🩶 The ending was phew; yeah, emotions and tension were flying high, and the confessions all the more searing. How they complete one another without realizing, and how without the other, there would be something missing, seeing how they have become so entwined in each other's heartaches and joys. 🫂

“Is there a way to make someone feel totally secure and totally loved without teaching them to take other people for granted?”

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Oh, yes, how could I forget? There is a conflict of a plot - one that shows the very delicate and fragile balance of the haves and the have not - i.e. those with money and those without. The fragile nature of Dan's relationship with his sister against Evan's own sibling was heartbreaking, but somehow, cathartic. Can you put a dollar sign on a human life - the value of their significance? What is one's worth in the face of need or crisis? 😟 What is the cost of sacrifice for the one you love, even though it may be at the risk of losing them? These thoughts plague Evan and Dan, for how they are very much yin and yang in so many ways, and yet they are also in harmony with each other, too.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ So I never thought it would go down the way it did, but it was certainly a chance for both comeuppance and closure for -- well, mostly, Dan. But, in regards to Justin and it being two years since his decision to pursue a relationship with Jeff and Evan, I understand why this interlude of grasping the meaning of living was tantamount to him seeing that he is alive with a family that loves and cares for him. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 And that he can have the chance to make amends for some decisions he wasn't able to give someone before, and to kinda get a perspective of the value of money and family; as much as it was exhausting, it still had a purpose, which makes me be a bit more forgiving of it.

“They’re Evan and Danny, man. Where else would you rather be?”

A big shout out to Chris and Jeff being best of bros, united in their despair of dealing with Dan and Evan's theatrics; I'm glad Jeff has someone who will lend a sympathetic shoulder and ear for him.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ We haven't yet crossed the finish line yet, folks, but there is certainly no doubt that Jeff, Evan and Dan are in a stronger place than ever, all things considered. And, that steamy scene ---- *fans self* ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 I was breathless - 'he didn’t want the feeling to end, not ever, but at the same time, he needed it to.' Too intense, too extreme - the heat, the touches, everything was so expressive and well, explicit, too, but so wholesome, too. It is a shame we didn't get more of those, but what we got definitely left me feeling all kinds of feelings. 🥹😌

And here I am... reviewing the last full novel of the Dark Horse series.

Jeff, Evan, and Dan have been living together for the last two years. Then Dan’s sister shows up seven months pregnant and on the run from the law, and the situation goes from complicated to overwhelming. Jeff and Evan want to help, but with Evan fearful of his own sister’s safety and Jeff struggling to keep his health issues under wraps, they’re a little distracted. With emotions and family ties pulling them in different directions, the threesome have to hold together or the people they love may tear them apart.

As with the first two books, our guys are once again embroiled in personal drama. The relationship between the three keeps growing stronger, but you can still see their insecurities.

Jeff... sigh... sweet Jeff, who always puts others first, taking care of Evan and Dan before himself.

I really liked that we had multiple POVs. It just made the book so much better.

I really don't want to see their story end. Dan, Jeff and Evan have so much more to tell... With everything that's going on in their life together. I'm sure they could fill another one or two books.

Highly recommended!

What a great conclusion to the 'Dark Horse'. We had action, lovely intimate moments and VERY (I repeat VERY) steamy sex scenes.

I enjoyed it all - the moments like this ...

and the moments like this...

but most of all the happiest moments like this...

The series are super wonderful and recommended to anyone who enjoys M/M as much as I do.

Well , the end of this series as far as the major stories are concerned...just one little novella to follow which I'll also be reviewing after this. 5 stars from me, . I've really enjoyed it, and can only once again thank my lovely Tina for the rec.

Boy, there was a lot going on in this one. Dan's hugely pregnant sister Krista is on the run...of course, the only person she can turn to is Dan...he's solid, reliable and of course living with two other men, one of whom is absolutely loaded!! So what does she do...she tells Evan that she'll let him and the guys keep the baby and bring it up as their child providing he gives her a lot of money (bitch!!). Evan, being Evan (yes, absolutely loaded but quite naïve in some ways) strikes a bargain with her but doesn't tell Dan...cos he knows Danny won't approve of the baby being 'sold', and yes, I'm wagging my finger at Evan as I write this. As you can imagine, that causes huge ructions in the house, and as usual Jeff, poor Jeff, is stuck in the middle of the two of them trying to be peacemaker . Add the stress from that to the 'chest pains' he is already suffering from but has done nothing about and you have a recipe for a potential disaster, and no I'm not giving any spoilers. As anyone who has read these books will know, Evan is absolutely paranoid about Tat's safety with just cause....yes, there is the 'big brother' act, but he does carry things too far sometimes...and again that happens in this book BUT towards the end of the story something does happen to Tat which involves everyone, and two people end up in hospital....is this review finished here, yes it is!! This one was well worth reading, loved it.

In this book, third in the series, the boys have been together for two years but still have to maintain a delicate balance in their relationship. Evan fights his possessiveness, Dan questions the role he plays and Jeff continues to be the glue holding the relationship together.

The story is fast-paced with story lines involving the extended group of family and friends. The series has an excellent cast of secondary characters and there is lots happening in this book.
A great end to the series.

Yet another satisfying tale in the saga of Dan, Evan and Jeff. There are some scary moments in this one for all. The tension was really well done. I was mad at every single character at some point in this book and that's when I know the author is being true to the personalities of each that she has created over the last two books and the other shorter stories. Even Chris pissed me off at one point! I pretty much read this in one sitting - seems like we've been waiting forever for it. Now of course, I want some more please! Honestly Kate, you better be working on the next one.

Dan, Evan and Jeff have been together for a while now, but there is still problems for the three of them trying to keep their triangle working. They seem to be doing ok, but now there is drama coming from outside of them.

This series has kept me enthralled, and now all I can think about is when I will be able to re-read these books, plus finish up the few shorts I haven't read yet.

The Dark Horse books are well written and character driven, and I have loved them all. I will read anything from this very talented author in the future.

I love this series and the complex relationship between the guys. Kate Sherwood doesn't go for the easy outs and quick fixes. The characters are all flawed (and I often wanted to wack them over the head. Hard!). Often in the m/m books I read there is some sort of non-issue that is being played up into some sort of relationship threatening plot device, but can be wrapped up neatly and easily because it was really a non issue all along. In contrast I wasn't sure if I would have been able to work through some of the things done and said by the MCs. There is a lot of drama and it is apparent that the MCs really need each other. They are very different and often pull so hard in other directions that they threaten to rip each other apart. But together they fit like puzzle and it's a damn interesting puzzle for the readers. In this book I mostly identified with Dan and felt some of his righteous anger (though I found him at times rather selfish and irrational in the previous novels - like I said, they all have some shades to them)and Evan can be really happy that everything turned out the way it did (more pressing matters coming up and things that lead to his actions seeming more understandable), because he seemed really close to loosing it all. Still, I like how everything was wrapped up. It is rather realistic and still not a HEA, but sweet and full of optimism. I like that they are as committed to working things through as they are to fighting with each other. :) 4.5 Stars

You've got to love these three guys and root for their struggle towards a working menage.

And it's such a wallow in emotional, squishy romanticism.

Evan and Dan push each others buttons so easily and Jeff is forever the peace-maker, for good or not so good. Dan is an intriguing and well developed character. The effortless thrall he holds over Evan and Jeff, at the beginning of the series mostly physical and evolving to psychological as well is what really draws me in. But theirs is a loving companionship and the effort at building a family is sweet.

The inclusion of some positive, secondary feminine characters (not love interests) is to be commended too. Reading all the side-stories, most of them freebies is highly recommended.

This is hopefully not the end of this addictive series - more Dark Horses please!

Another installment into the lives of Dan, Evan, and Jeff.

This one was a little crazier than the others as there were things happening outside of the relationship that were definitely causing some angst and tension.

I've really loved reading this series, I'm a little bummed that it's over :(

“You are Jeff, what a question! You are the glue that makes the idealistic and pragmatic don’t kill each other. You are Jeff, he repeated softly. »

A WONDERFUL CONTINUATION OF THE SERIES!
Yeah the first book didn't made a good impression to me. But as I read on through the series, I've grown to love these characters and hoped that their relationship will be a fulfilling one.

I liked the story. The plot was good in the beginning for me, but towards the end, I think the happenings were a little bit too much. But it was still fine for me.
I loved reading about how the threesome had grown to loving relationship they deserved. I still adored Dan, Evan, and Jeff. Their chemistry is still hot. Gosh, the sex scenes!!!

Still loved the secondaries. I'm not sure how will I feel about Krista and too bad

What didn't worked for me that much was the writing. I liked that I had a chance to have the POVs of Dan, Evan, and Jeff, but there were times that when they change views, the scenes jumps from a scene to another, making the flow a little choppy. But it's not too bad really.
And Chris' story was almost not mentioned here. What happened to Chris & Ryan?

All in all, since I loved the characters and the story already, I'm giving this a 5 star rating. I loved them and I'm going to miss them. :)

Recommended for those who to want read a nice threesome series.

I love reading about these men. Jeff is my favorite, there I said it! When it comes to sexy time I think Dan and Jeff burn it up more than Dan and Evan. I need to see some Jeff and Evan heat next time. Now, all three burn the house down to ashes.

Small gripe - I get that Evan's whole deal is his love for lil'sis, his role as parent and he wants to keep her safe...but, enough already. These men have more issues to focus on other than her. I wanted them to focus on Jeff’s health scare. It was serious then all the sudden it wasn’t because Tat’s in danger, we must focus on her, again. Dan and Evan should’ve been mad that Jeff kept this from them and then they should’ve been scared out of their minds at the thought of losing him. Jeff really should’ve been hurt that his men didn’t notice his health declining. A stranger and Chris noticed. It’s no wonder Jeff worries about his role/place in their relationship. Clearly these men still have communication issues to work on. I still get the feeling that Evan is more in love with Dan and Dan is deeply in love with Jeff. Jeff loves them both equally like a good daddy, lol! They have a weird dynamic that I can't get enough of it. And, Chris just came out of left field. I think he wants some of Daddy Jeff while it seemed like Jeff was trying to slide Chris in his place. I don’t want another man coming in between them but I was glad that someone was paying some attention to Daddy Jeff.

(reread) I seem to have completely forgotten that all three of them have their point of view in this book, which wasn't the case in the other books. I don't particularly like inconsistencies like that. That generally drives me up the wall.

The plot wasn't quite as fitting either, I think. The drama didn't come completely out of the blue, but in comparison with the other books, it just didn't quite fit. That's a real shame. Apart from that, the series was absolutely fantastic.

previous review:

To be honest, I was really not sure if I would like this part. The blurb didn’t really promise a lot of fun, at least not for my personal taste.

It was not as bad as I had feared, but it was all rather disappointing. I loved the first two books. I liked the realness of the characters and the problems of a poly relationship, and I especially loved the emotions the first and second book coaxed out of me.

This part was just a bit disappointing. The plot itself wasn’t all that surprising but I think I kinda wished it wouldn’t come to it. But alas, here we are.

I am not saying everything was bad. I still enjoyed the characters so much and I still was a big fan of the problems between Jeff, Evan and Dan. The insecurities etc. made their relationship so much more realistic. I also enjoyed the end of their story, though it was a bit sudden. Just the rest of this book wasn’t necessarily my favourite.

This was SO much better than I expected. Book 2 fell into a screaming heap for me (too much internalised whinging and waffling as I recall) after having loved book 1...

Going into this book I was pretty concerned about how Krista would feature and play out her part; but as much as there was focus on the 'criminal' plotline, equal focus was given to the difficulties in developing and maintaining a solid threesome.

***
Narrated by Peter B Brooke: 4 stars
The narrator wasn't too good at female voice which especially grated in the beginning, but I managed to absorb it into the story as it developed. The male voices were very well done, although Jeff's was a touch quiet at time since it was so deep...

Goodreads TOS-compliant review: (I think, let me know when they tell us what the rules are).

"The book I just read is about two (or three) lovely people, written in beautiful language, by a very good and prolific author. I liked it very, very much.
It is for sale on Amazon.”

I think this was just one book too many for me with these guys. While I liked that I finally got all their viewpoints, I felt that there was too much outside stuff going on and not enough focus on the three men as a unit.

There has been 2 years since the end of the last book, but it seems like the relationships really haven't changed much at all. And I've got to say, Jeff actually started to annoy me in this book. He is 42 not 62! Really not that old. I felt that this book left so much unresolved and didn't do much to solidify the relationships, maybe even taking a step or two back.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I was happy to spend some more time with these characters, but I wasn't crazy about the plot. The series up to this point has been mainly focused inward (the beautiful exploration of loss and grief in the first book, for example), so the soap opera-ish events of this book seem out of place. Also, something about the relationship still seems... unresolved, maybe (unless that was the intent?). I loved that this series addressed the emotional dynamics of a threesome, but I guess I hoped for more progress in this story.

Arggg... 2.5 stars for me. I loved books #1 & #2 and I love these guys, but this one was borderline silly for me. Gone was the great banter, funny inner dialog and organic chemistry between the guys. Instead I got over the top drama with smexy scenes that seemed to be randomly inserted.

Note to self: when you find a series that you like, spread the reading out. I think if I had waited to read #3, I may have been more excited to spend time with Jeff, Dan and Evan and probably more forgiving of the book's flaws.

As usual with Kate's writing I loved this book. It was everything I expected and more. I don't know how she can keep witing about the same characters and still keep my interest and has me at the edge of my seat. She can get inside each characters head so well that you know exactly how they're feeling.
