The Inspiring True Story of the First Amputee to Return to Active Command in Iraq...
In Back in An American Soldier's Story of Courage, Faith, and Fortitude , Captain David Rozelle tells the whole gripping from the day he had to tell his pregnant wife that he was going to war (Valentine's Day 2003) and deployed tor Operation Iraqi Freedom, to the fateful day four months later when a land mine tore off his right foot—and beyond, through months of agonizing rehabilitation to his final triumphant recertificationo as "Fit for Duty."
"As I began to call roll, I noticed a giant scorpion running toward me from the edge of the tent. After screaming like a Chinese opera singer and trying my best to stop on it, I simply watched it disappear into the sand beneath me. Once the laughter died down I said, "Men, this place is dangerous!""
Captain Rozelle was among the first to arrive into Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein's Army. His goal was to set up operating bases, establish peace in the area and help install new governance within the country. This is his story as told my him.
The book is written like a diary or a letter home. His injury, recovery, triumph and return to his unit. A true patriot and warrior.
Wonderful read. The courage this man and his family shows through out his injury and recovery is awesome. I laughed and cried as I read about his determination to become "Fit For Duty". Captain David Rozelle is a true American Hero . God Bless You Sir and Thank You For Your Service!!!
The author’s purpose for writing this book is to show how if you have enough determination you can do almost anything. He has not written any other books. In this book the author had got hurt in the book. He went through many hours of rehab to get back in to being able to go back in to battle. He basically told the reader most major things that happened in the story. He writes about his life changing event. He kept me interested in the book by always bringing something new or different in most chapters. The theme is if you put your heart into it you can achieve whatever you want to. He is so determined to go back in to battle. But his amputated leg is preventing him from achieving his goal. He finally pushes through and accomplished his goal. The style was narration. I can tell it was narration because the whole book was in order and not a play. This book was a nonfiction book. It was nonfiction because it is an autobiography. Also it is about something that really happened. I think that the author has a good way of writing. I thought the book was okay. It has good detail on what happened in the book. I also liked how he put forth the effort after his painful experience with the anti tank mine. I would not change anything about the book. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes war and people who put a lot of effort in to what they want to achieve.
GREAT story!! It really makes you respect the sacrifice the entire family makes when sending a soldier to war to fight for our freedom. I appreciated how raw David was in describing his experience coming home from an injury and the determination required in creating a new normal. It was great to hear his wife, Kim's, perspective!
A great story showing the resiliency of the human spirit, the drive that those who serve that, even if they are injured most still want to be in. I thought the store line flowed well. It was a book that you wanted to know what happened next.
This was interesting and inspiring, showing how the spirit can overcome adversity and how courage can enable one to continue on one's preferred life path. I enjoyed it.
Inspiring Story of sacrifice, service and determination of a war hero. The author came to our book club and was very interactive book discussion. Salute him and worship him!!!
The publisher seemed to want to make much of the jihadis target Rozelle. Rozelle's story keeps the focus on his overcoming the loss of his foot. A grand story of facing difficulty.
