Marrying Mari

Rate this book
She is the one woman they both need. If they can catch her. Ethan Stone and Gabriel Pryor are successful, wealthy, handsome—and single. But not for long. As Colony descendants, they are required to form a mated triad with a woman with Colony bloodlines—or they’ll be forced to do the unthinkable. Move back inside the community’s walls and accept whomever the elders choose. When their hired P.I. comes through with a candidate, they’re both relieved—and in a rush to close the deal. Except their chosen lady’s bloodline comes with a streak of independence as quicksilver fast as her bike messenger pedals. Ordinarily, a big tip and amorous note wouldn’t impress Mariella Amorini, but there’s something that draws her to the two men she can’t explain. The shocking truth of her heritage sends her reeling—straight into the safe harbor of Ethan and Gabriel’s bed. The sense of belonging is warm, and the sex is hot, but as more truths become entangled with lies, it’s clear someone from The Colony isn’t the least bit interested in the threesome’s long-term happiness. And it’ll take revealing their deepest vulnerabilities to forge a bond strong enough to endure the test. Two alpha males looking for their mate. One sassy bike messenger who’s not entirely certain she fits the description. Seduction tactics include wine, dessert, Cary Grant movies, heartfelt confession, laughter, kissing, and sex. Lots of really hot sex.

As an erotic book alone, it delivers. Great and detailed sex scenes and all.
But expect:
-very predictable plot, twists, conversations, and generic characters.
-heroine that is easily manipulated/influenced at first and then evolved into a very robotic/perfect Stepford wife/girlfriend.
-DETAILED description of every characters clothes and appearance ON EVERY scenes/paragraph/chapters.
-DETAILED description of every setting ON EVERY scenes/chapters.

In short, not my cup of tea as a menage, romance, and or even as an erotic read. It lacks the uniqueness that will pull me into the story. Generic characters with predictable plots and twists.

Ethan Stone and Gabriel Pryor are looking for a mate, a third to complete their “triad”. They are members of a very quiet, very old community known as the Colony. To be able to break out of the Colony and live outside its walls they have made a deal with the council and must find a mate by a certain time, and this mate must be of Colony blood. They hire a private investigator and discover a bike messenger named Mari whose mother is a full descendant and meets most of those requirements. Now they must persuade her to give the two of them a chance to prove that she would be the perfect mate for them.

I chose this book mainly because I hadn’t read a good menage in a while and it seems like every time I pick up an erotica book lately it’s all about the bdsm elements. I blame this on the success of 50 Shades. Now every time I’m looking for some smut there just has to be spanking involved, and although I like some good spanking, I sometimes want just good old-fashioned multiple partner smut.

Marrying Mari had all the usual menage elements. Of course there were two beautiful, rich, wonderful men who are completely dedicated to their shared woman. There is a woman who is basically alone in the world who falls for both men and starts to rely on them. There was some family pressure against the union, not because they didn’t agree with the menage, but because they didn’t view Mari as proper Colony material. There are misunderstandings between the men and Mari, then ultimately a happy ending where all is well in the triad world.

There were a few things I didn’t care for , Mari basically finds out her unknown heritage and agrees to take a trial triad mate run within ONE DAY of meeting these men. She moves in with them the next day. They stalk her, tell her she has a completely different background than she knows, feed her dinner, proposition her, and then ask her to move in with them the day she meets them and she is like “oh, okay, sounds good”. That night they both have sex with her virgin body and it’s all good. This made me laugh a little. The day after that when she is in a biking accident Gabriel realizes he is in love with her. All this happens within two days. I’m not a big fan of instalove, in fact I hate instalove storylines. At least here it was just one of the men instead of both. That would have been a little too much. The men aren’t jealous of each other in the least, more than once one man walks in on Mari and the other having sex and it’s all “y’all have fun and save some for me”. This made me laugh too.

All in all, this was a good smutty menage story. Not in the least bit believable in any way, but then I wasn’t looking for that. I started out wanting a dirty mutliple partner erotica book and that’s what I got.

Favorite Quote:

“These feelings. I don’t trust these fucking feelings. I’m all churned up inside. Since the minute that damned phone call came from the hospital, all I can do is feel. A need so big, I see you and I want to throw you down on that couch and fuck you. I need to be inside you, every second. I need to see you smile at me. I need to feel your arms around me. I need to tell you that you’re mine and hear you say I’m yours. I need you to be between us every night, always.”

I stumbled upon this book by accident and I’m so glad I did.

'Marrying Mari’ is the first book written by Elyse Snow.
Marrying Mari focuses on three characters. Ethan Stone, Gabriel Pryor and Mari. Ethan and Gabriel come from very different backgrounds compared to Mari as they have been brought up in ‘The Colony’. The Colony is a community where new settlers ended making a very enclosed village where outsiders are not allowed. One of the rules of the colony is that every man in the colony chooses a mate. A problem being this mate has to be a member of the colony and have blood ties. Ethan and Gabriel both want Mari to be there mate, and this is aloud. It is called a triad. Mari is blown away by this as she hasn’t grown up in the colony and this is the first she has heard of it. She doesn’t understand that she can be married to both men but this is common in the colony as there are usually more men than women and it is better more economically for a family. Even thought money isn’t a problem for these wealthy business men. Ethan and Gabriel 2 of the hottest places in town and Ethan also runs the colonies bank. Ethan and Gabriel make a proposition to Mari.

In the end Mari agrees to live with both men for exactly 30 Days. Through these 30 days Gabriel, Ethan and Mari discover feeling they have never felt before and explain something’s about their past and how it has affected them. The Book takes twists and turns around Mari not being excepted in colony life and gets threats for the future. All of this leads up to one person’s feelings being exposed when it comes to Mari and they might not be the romantic ones your thinking.
I found the characters to be very like able and I can see the appeal of Ethan and Gabriel. I found them to be confident but not cocky which I find in most books as to the same style of this one. Which to me doesn’t appeal at all and don’t understand how it could to other people. Throughout the book I loved learning more about them and made me grow to like the characters even more. Mari I immediately liked as she could say No to these irresistible characters. I know some people are going to disagree with me but I honestly couldn’t fault the characters through the majority of the book.

Overall I enjoyed the book every much and got into it quite quickly. I hope to see Elyse Snow write some more books and develop some more loveable characters.

Just when Gabriel and Ethan thought their chances of finding the mate they wanted were impossible, they discovered Mari, the only woman who can truly complete their triad. The only problem is that Mari’s spit fire personality, and the fact that she may be viewed as an outsider, definitely stacked the cards against their relationship and happiness.

All three characters in this story are so headstrong and have their own ideas of what they want, that they can sometimes forget about each other’s needs. This character flaw really makes the storyline intriguing. While at times it may seem selfish, it is easy to see that Ethan, Gabriel, and Mari have the best intentions, they just don’t always know how to show it.

While I absolutely adore Ethan and Gabriel as a package at times I found it difficult to differentiate from the two. While they have different looks, their personalities just seem a little too similar, which sometimes left me confused. After a while I was able to pick up on differences that helped me figure them out and follow the story thread better, especially once they began to discover their feelings and when the other Colony members got involved.

The conflict with the colony really helped to heighten the tension. The fact that some supported the relationship while others did not reminded me of some of my own personal situations. Especially because there was unseen opposition as well as allies around various corners. It added a certain danger or anticipation to the story that helped to increase my emotional connection. There are some extremely prejudiced views toward Mari. Since she is considered an outsider by many so, if a reader is offended by prejudice and hate towards people for no other reason by who they were born as they may find certain aspects of this story offensive.

In the end I think that the story really had some remarkable ups and downs which created a propelling plot line. This is a story I could see having a sequel, especially featuring some of the secondary characters and I would happily read it.

Evan, and Gabe must find a woman, a mate by the end of the year per their contract with The Colony, or return. Thus they hire a private detective to find the perfect woman to make a triad with.
Enter Mariella, full time bike messenger and unbeknownst to her the perfect woman to handle to bossy males.

I absolutely loved the way the three are introduced to each other at first, the intimidating presence the two guys projected, making Mari a little nervous. Then the righteous indignation when she finds the $1000 dollar “tip”. Cracked me up.

The added twist of The Colony was a unique way to explain why they needed a third, and how it was acceptable. The imagination of the author on this point was awesome. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen that sort of explanation, and it was nice. Rather than it just being a lifestyle that they chose, it was more a way of life that they had grown up around and was accepted.

Throw in the road block of getting Mari accepted ……well you’ll see where that goes when you read the book.

I highly recommend this book to those that love reading about alternative realities, menage’s, and light bdsm. Once I started reading this book I couldn’t stop, and I’ve since re-read it twice, just to make sure I hadn’t missed anything!

Brava to Ms. Snow for a fabulous page turning read, that I’ll be sure to re-read again, and again. I can’t wait til I pick up another book by her.

I can't quite get past the premise of a closed community, demanding purity of blood lines, with traditions and marriage by contract. Remind you of anything?

Mari's casual acceptance of their relationship after being told her mum's history and the rules surrounding The Colony seemed far too convenient...ok I know this is romance but still. On the other hand, the relationship between the guys was really well done!

I'm up in the air about this one.

For me I found it way too similar to other type novels to due with colonies, trinities and marrying brothers etc. I did like it and think it was good, it just wasn't great.
