Name : 冰川京子 (ひかわきょうこ)

Blood type : A

Likes Jackie Chan movies and American movies like BIG. Also cats, but not enough to own one. One of her favorite activities is decorating and creating useful objects for her home. Hates mosquitoes and cockroaches. Has enormous trouble in bicycle parks.

Does mostly light-hearted comedy stories, but very entertaining. She does surprisingly great action scenes (haven't seen many shoujo artists try at a Western before!!).

Her stories ranges from cute to action, but all done unparalled attention - the drawings are refined and the storylines bring the readers into what the characters feel. Her page layouts and camera angles varies a lot, and thus keeps the interest of the reader.

This thirteenth entry in Kyoko Hikawa's fourteen-volume fantasy manga epic opens as Zena, having related the ancient legends concerning the evil priest who unnaturally elongated his life, before eventually becoming a powerful evil spirit and the source of much of the current misfortunes besetting the world, in the twelfth episode, concludes here that Izark is not truly a monster, nor a force for evil. The affirmation from their circle of friends, and the support offered to Izark and Noriko, mark the beginning of the final phase of the battle between good and evil raging in their world, as all parties finally know who they are. When Noriko is kidnapped by Lord Rachef, while Izark is off defending Ennamarna from the armies of Donya, his worst nightmare seems to be coming true, and he can barely suppress his inner monster. Noriko's escape reunites them, but she is terribly weakened by her solo synchronization with the chimos, and is bed-ridden within the walls of Ennamarna as Izark heads out to confront the maniacal Keimos. Can Izark prevail against such a strong enemy, without calling upon his own inner demon? Will the citizens of Ennamarna stay strong, when Rachef and Gorya issue an ultimatum, demanding that they turn over Noriko? It all concludes in the final fourteenth volume...

It was worth staying up late last night to read this volume, even if I do feel a bit groggy today - I'm just surprised that I was able to get to sleep at all, with just one episode left in the saga, and the fate of Noriko, Izark and their world hanging in the balance! Immensely engaging, this entry in the series had it all: intense action scenes, heartwarming moments, frightening developments, and further revelations. Lord Rachef, determined to claim whatever power the Awakening confers, offers Noriko the chance to save her life by becoming his, reflecting in the process on his eternal sense of emptiness - the lack of fulfillment that seems to grow stronger, the higher he rises in the world. Izark and Noriko's companions give important moral support, in their various ways, each expressing their belief that the couple are not agents of evil. I loved the opening scenes, when we finally see the fruits of their many good deeds, of all the help they have offered to others. All in all, a volume I raced through in record time, determined to get to the finale!

"You are absolutely not the master of destruction. You are as human as the rest of us. Therefore, I have no doubt that the world of light will open its door for you eventually. Noriko, as the Awakening, will lead you to that door."

Be right back, I'm just going to go cry real quick…

What a volume!!! Everything I have deeply loved about this series is blooming into something incredible in this volume and left me breathless, emotional, and completely engaged. Evil seems to be prevailing, but everything that is happening to fight that evil is powerful. I have zero doubts the light will win and overcome the darkness.

Until that truth becomes reality though, I will just have to hold on and be here for feeling allll the emotions. I don't know how many times I started getting teary-eyed reading because I was definitely feeling some low-key terror for Noriko. And then of course because she is in a horrible situation, my heart was absolutely breaking for Izark.

These two are truly unlike any other couple I've read and deeply love them both. I also deeply love their friends and how they are fighting. Truly, I think the ending will be a grand conclusion that is deeply powerful and so very fulfilling. I know I'm ready to see the "Master," Rachef, and Keimos be taken down. I want this world to truly be at peace and wish that even more so for our ultimate shojo ship.

Incredible volume!!

Overall Series review 3 Stars. I probably should have left it after book 7, because there is a sort of ending there with Noriko and Izark leaving their (first set of) friends behind but I did want to see what the conclusion was.
The second half of From Far Away (books 8-14) is weaker in my opinion but I do like Noriko as a character, she’s endearing, and there are parts that I enjoyed.

Zena & everyone in the room voice their opinion about Izark being the sky demon & Noriko the Awakening. They are NOT evil. overwhelmed: Izark bowed him head while Noriko cried, letting out all her relief that these people undeerstand them.
Just before the sun rises, Izark makes his move on the military by making them think that the spirits are attacking them out of anger of what they were about to do. Meanwhile Noriko was unable to sleep so she goes to find a window where Izark will be coming from, running into the 2 baby chimos.
Izark returns & everyone welcomes him back, including Noriko. But soon after stepping through the gate, Irktule appears to tell him about the strange aura & his inability to find Noriko. Izark rushes to the window where he last saw her & found nothing, not even her presence. He & the others begin searching & still nothing. Even Zena & Geena cannot find her.
The sky demon inside of him senses his emotions & begins to emerge so he escape the city to prevent any harming coming to them if he loses control.
Rachef had kidnapped Noriko, chained her ankle & the 8 moonstones in each corner of the room is preventing her from communicating with Izark. Tazasheena gets a slap in the face when she questions Rachef's motives for keeping Noriko alive.
Once Tazasheena & the chimos has been removed from the room, Rachef turns his attack to Noriko who wants to know what her special ability is. She tells him that she has none which made him even more curious so he decides to make her his but she rejects him. This pissed him off & with a dagger, sliced parts of her hair off in a fit of anger. He leaves her alone to think over his proposal.
Still upset Tazasheena paid Noriko a visit with help from the 2 chimos & gives her the opportunity to escape with the 2 chimos, which Noriko accepts & escapes quickly. Tazasheena was shocked that she synchronized solo but more worrisome is that she's gone against Rachef's orders & knows he will kill when he finds out what she's done.
Soon after Izark regains control of himself, Noriko appeared in front of him before collapsing with exhaustion. Izark called for Irktule for help.
Rachef is pissed that Noriko is gone & that Tazasheena helped her but he continues on with his plans.
Ennamarina: word spread that Noriko has been found but in serious condition. Izark is sent outside while Noriko gets a hair cut. Izark cried silently. Izark looked back at Noriko when they were done & saw her hair looked like the 1st time they met in the sea of trees.
Rachef & Gorya begins to bring their master through the new passageway & Rachef's men finally learn who they have been working for & flee.
The mayor of Ennamarina updates Jeida & his group on the status of Noriko before asking him who Izark & Noriko really are. They were reluctant to tell him except for Niana who just blurted it all out before asking for him help.
The chimos can't help Izark & Noriko is too weak to travel. Then the mayor offers to help protect Noriko while Izark battles this evil.
Everyone prepares for battle & Gorya can sense Izark's approach.
Keimos is ready for him. To stop Izark from ignoring him, he creates a protective shield around them & begins to transform again. Only way to remove the shield is for Izark to defeat him.
Rachef & Gorya returned to the cavern to use the moonstones to attack Ennamarina.
Ennamarna has their own set of moonstones & the people are placing them around the city limits & Noriko's room. Sand monsters begins to appear & approach the city but the moonstones are keeping them at bay until Gorya makes the sand monsters stronger.
Then Gorya speaks to the people of Ennamarina & demand that they hand over the Awakening or the monsters will keep coming.
To be continued...

Things are racing to a conclusion and I can't wait to see how things come out. I think that's one of the things that has amazed me throughout this series - never did the action lag, nor did I ever feel that the pacing was too fast. The story is told at just the right speed to keep you engaged and interested. That's hard, especially in a long series like this one, so it needs to be mentioned. :)

As always, I'm adoring Noriko and Izark. As a couple they're wonderful. It's awesome how Noriko isn't a weak princess needing to be rescued, but how she puts forth her best effort, ALWAYS. Oooh...I can't wait to see what happens next!

There are so many stupid decisions made by the villains for no reason whatsoever.
And everyone acting like Noriko getting her hair all chopped and messed up (including Noriko herself and Rachef) is something terrible, as if she's been all beat up and chopped up truly made me facepalm.
She even screamed as if he was beating or killing her, but all he was doing is cutting her hair 🙄
Oh so scary and atrocious, such a terrifying villain 🙄

Oh wow. This volume is full of action and suspense.
Noriko got kidnapped, the evil power is getting stronger and the city is under attack by some creepy creatures and Izark is alone fighting Keimos and Racheff and Gorya.
I'm at the edge of my seat most of the time.
Love this volume.

My Thoughts:

In Ennamarna, Izark is able to hold off the army from Donya and saves the city from being taken over. Things start to go wrong when Rachef kidnaps Noriko, though. He thinks that by having her with him, he can find the thing that he has always lacked. What he doesn't realize is that what he lacks is love and you can't force a person to give that to you. So when Noriko rejects him, he gets pissed and hacks off some of her hair. Tazasheena is upset that Rachef won't see her as anything other than an underling and goes to set Noriko free. Only, I don't think she realized that Noriko would be able to synchronize with the chimos and get away. True, it could have killed her, but thanks to the spirits and Irk, she's able to survive, though she is really weak right now.

It isn't long before Rachef, Gorya and Keimos come after them, though. Izark heads out to confront them and gets drawn into a fight with Keimos. Keimos is really looking rough these days. All he continues to care about is defeating Izark and now he looks like a monster.

Izark is determined to not be taken over by the sky demon. I hope he can keep in control. Will Noriko be able to help him?

I can't believe I'm almost done with this series. I wasn't even sure that I could get all the volumes and here I'm finishing it...

I'm so happy about this series. I'm still not sure that Hikawa-sensei is that good at drawing but sure she's good at creating good and interesting plot with active female main protagonist.

This volume tells about the last siege. The villain search for Noriko because he wants to have the kind of power she can give to Izark out of love. But since the villain doesn't know love, he won't be able to gain such power.

I'm also glad because all the old secondary characters are back in action.

Only one volume to go. SIGH!

From Far Away is always cute and nicely drawn, but vol. 13 wasn't my favorite of the series; I thought some of the major revelations could have been more dramatic.
