This book was loaned to me by a friend through Amazon. I have to call a DNF on this book. This book is nothing more than a piss poor attempt to copy, almost exactly, the Significance series by Shelly Crane. There are so many elements that are copied from the Significance series that honestly, Shelly Crane should sue this author for plagiarism. The MC had plain brown hair and eyes, wears tank tops and cardigans, the boy rides a motorcycle, as soon as they kiss they have visions of their future, the family's bonding has stopped, he can feel when she's upset and knows where she is and they have a "bonding" ceremony where they receive powers and tattoos on their wrists. They can feel each other's heartbeats, the guy has the same band t shirts and the guy's.dog even has the same name as in the Significance series. These are all elements which were originally introduced to us by Shelly Crane. Don't give this book your time unless you are interested in reading a perfect example of copyright infringement.

'"I know nothing about being a shifter. I only just found this out a couple of weeks ago. I'm no leader," I said.

"It's in your blood," he said.

"Really? Because I've had my blood tested and ALPHA never came back in the toxicology."'

I'm going to admit that for the good majority of the first half of the book I was all like:

'Cause let's just face it - some female characters tend to overdo the whole I'm Not Pretty mantra. One minute she's all 'I'm plain and ugly no one could ever possibly think I'm beautiful', and the next:

Not to mention her reaction to any relatively good-looking male in a ten metre radius:

Okay. Maybe that was a little bit of an exaggeration.

The plot line was pretty obvious for the most part.
- Girl moves into town.
- Girl meets boy.
- Girl uncovers town secret.
- Girl and boy go out.
- Girl and boy face danger.
- Girl and boy make out.
- Girl and boy live happily ever after until the next book.

And although cheesy levels went through the roof at times...
(e.g.)'He shook his head. "One day you'll believe me when I tell you how smart, beautiful, and perfect you are."'

...but overall this book wasn't a total waste of time. It just required alot of patience, an open mind and an ability to stomach fluffy, Fanfiction-esque, lovey-dovey scenes and a very annoying main female protagonist.

However that's just my opinion. If you like werewolves, romance and alpha-male fights (where they totally should have had a cheerleading squad!) then this book could be for you :)

I only ever write reviews for books I really love or really hate. Unfortunately, in this instance, this is a book I really hate.
I literally sat in bed thinking "what the actual heck?!" Could this possibly be the worst book known to man, containing the most inconsistencies and shallow characters?
I mean, come on. Sure, this book had so much potential, but in the end the characters had no depth or background or dimension. Even the protagonist, Sophie, remained a mystery to me at the conclusion of the book. All I learned is that she loves Caeden, she cries and she is a neither fat nor thin... Oh and that she is head over heals (literally) for Caedan, wait, did I say that already?
We don't know what music she listens to, the types of relationships she holds with her family and friends, her past, how she responds to that, her stance on life, how she responds to stress or painful memories. We know nothing! I feel like the only tidbits of information we learn about her (and any other character really) was randomly thrown in when the author remembered to put it in.
Second of all, soooo many elements of this book mirrored Shelly Crane's Significance series. Fated to be mated? healing powers? distress at being a part? Kidnapping? Blood tests? Being zapped when someone who is trying to hurt you touches you? COME ON PEOPLE! This is like a horrible version of a somewhat awesome book! I'm blowing the whistle, COPYCAT ALERT!!!
Thirdly, the minor characters were even worse written than the protagonist! One moment Sophie is new, the next she's best friends with the girls in the pack. We, the readers, should have been taken on a journey of bantering and jokes and ACTUAL conversation to understand the dynamics of these new friendships. Instead we're rushed into friendships which we don't even know about, let alone cheer for and admire. Speaking of, Sophie and Caeden fell in love instantly and they loved each and everything about each other among first sight. There was absolute nothing which they found at least slightly annoying about each other, how unrealistic do you up want to make it?! ( yes I am aware this is a fiction, but still). I, for one, and I think many others too, was not taken on a journey where I fell in love with the characters, with Sophie and with Caeden.

The only thing I fell in love with was the peanut butter birthday cake, honestly.

This book could have been good, but it just wasn't. I forced myself to finish, because I found the writing lazy that was a feat. It was like reading someone's rough draft. I love the whole soul mate concept, however this one felt stolen. It was almost word for word similar to Significance by Shelly Crane, without what made Significance good. The best part of finishing this book is I now can read Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Claire, which I have been looking forward to for almost a year.

“This novel shifts from wolves to humanity and back again with a cast of characters who are truly remarkable; all entwined in a love story which will have you swooning and shifting in your seats.” - EponaReviews

A self-published novel miraculously completed over 4 weeks by 18 year old, Micalea Smeltzer.

The first in a trilogy of shifters, love and power.

All little girls dream of being a princess. They dream of a prince. A fairytale of their own. They’ve all watched Snow White, Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast; but none ever dreamt they’d be the beast...

Sophie’s world is turned upside down when she discovers the truth about her life. About what she is. She’s scared but she’s not alone. She may not have her prince but she certainly has her Alpha and he’s all hers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and found myself occasionally laughing throughout the story. There’s action, friendship, betrayal, secrets, romance and, of course, wolves.

The story is written in first person, past tense, from the POV of 17 year old Sophie. The only downside to this novel (possibly down to being self-published) is the lack of editing which occasionally makes itself known through the odd spelling error and missing word, but despite this, it was a flawless novel.

This is a romance story and so much more and despite not containing vampires or werewolves (the wolves in this novel are known as “shifters”) I would recommend this novel for fans of “Twilight” as the William’s wolf pack reminds me so much of the Cullens family. And for once, there is not a love triangle!

I picked up this novel after devouring Maggie Stiefvater’s “The Wolves Of Mercy Falls” trilogy and found myself craving more. Outsider did not quench my thirst but in fact gave me a taste for something new.

Micalea adds her own twist on what could have been a cliché shifter novel.

Can i Just say i love the cover?? Its awesome Blossom. Totally love the book as well. Out of all the books i read from Micalea Smeltzer this one stole my heart. OK so Sophie is a shifter like the rest of the gang. The only difference is that she didn't grow up knowing this important detail, and it was for her safety that she didn't find out. Her parents move around A LOT so she spends summers with her Grandmother where she meets Caeden. The packs Alpha. He's sexy and confident. No wonder shes so drawn to him, oh yeah and the fact that shes his mate. Every Shifter thought mates were myth. Legend until Sophie and Caeden meet at her grandmas store. They get to know each other when the big bad wolf comes in and kidnaps Sophie. He and his deranged family keeps Sophie under lock and key torturing her for a long time. Shes gone for so long she even misses Christmas; which happens to be her favorite holiday. Caeden rescues her eventually with the help of her dog Archie. That little rascal makes me want to go buy the same type just to say i have Sophie's dog. The ending defiantly made me want to get the next book. Can not wait until Insider (Outsider Book 2) comes out. I so want a love like Sophie and Caeden.

This is one of the very few books in my did not finish pile.
I have nothing good to say I'm afraid.
I've never read a book so flat before.
Sophie finds out she's a wolf and has a destined mate- barely any reaction.
Sophie gets kidnapped and tortured- barely any reaction from anyone.
There is barely any building or progression of the relationship between Sophie and Caeden before they announce they love each other.
When they rescue Sophie, the rescue is done by the youngest pack members, we're told the kids parents are too old? ! That seems ridiculous!
When gran sees Sophie for the first time after being kidnapped- her reaction? Nothing! No fussing, no how r u? Nothing.
It's ridiculous!!!
When you read this book, it's very much:

I found a cloth and wiped up the spilt egg, then Caeden showed me to the disinfectant, so I used that on the floor, then . . . Then . . . Blah blah. No one cares!!!! Where's the important stuff??
I'm done! I give up!!

I came into reading this book with an open mind. I wasn't sure what I was getting but it looked interesting enough to try. I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised.

I was immediately sucked into the story and couldn't peel myself away from it. The blooming romance between Caden and Sophie was so sweet and I couldn't help but feel for them. She chose to keep many of the other characters in the background, but it worked. The villain in this story was well written and truly creepy.

I loved the flow of the story line. Micalea Smeltzer did a great job weaving the plot and progressing it smoothly. I was intrigued, yet satisfied as the story wound to an end.

The author is phenomenal. I will be purchasing her other books and eagerly look forward to the sequel, Insider.

Okeey, this book had its potential, but it became too much.. love and childish? Nothing did really happen, other than Sophie and Caeden loving each other... I considered giving up on the book multiple times through the book, but like i said, it did really had its potential to be really good, so i just had to finished it hoping it might turn completely around a become awesome, but sadly it didn't.. This book is for people who love 'love at first sight' books, where love is pretty much the whole story, but i'm a sucker for hate turned love relationships, so yeah, this book was not for me.. Not sure if i'll continue this serie, but who know, i might change my mind one day :)

When Sophie Beaumont's parents send her to her Grandmother for her senior year she has know idea that her life has had hidden elements to it. Meeting Caeden she feels an unexplained wholeness. Whens he learns that she is a wolf shifter on the cusp of changing and Caeden is her mate she has an important decision to make. Can a girl who was raised as human accept her fate?

This was very fun read. Has a bit of a teaser at the end but the story was complete. I appreciated that while Sophie and Caeden are mates it is not all sex sex sex, they have a respect for one another and are growing as friends to mates. Creative paranormal young adult read.

I was pulled in from the beginning. The building of the relationship between Caeden and Sophie was really well written. The innocence was there while this passion stirred in the background. Caeden waited patiently while Sophie figured out her new life.
Micalea did an amazing job developing her characters as the story developed. It was refreshing to see that not every pack member got along perfectly and those relationships developed as each person went through different trials.
I am not stuck in a state up suspense to read more of what Travis has planned.

I'm too old to read this book.

And that is daft really, YA books shouldn't been super immature but some just are, this is more a preteen book to me that features some YA topics like Sex and some violence. Other than that, its pretty young.

This being said I just didn't enjoy reading this book, I was at 20% and was thinking how have I not finished?
There is instant love Blergh,
There is just so much immaturity I just couldn't be bothered, I only got through this for my book challenge other than that I would have DNF this at 20% for sure. Shame.

OMG...Another ball hit out of the park by Micalea. Looking forward to the next book in this series...can't wait to see what challenges await the mated and bonded couple...what will happen with the new Alpha of the rival pack...will mates return and are they already present in the longing relationships we see on the horizon in this first installment! Sigh...waiting patiently on the next book.

I fell in love with this book the moment I read the prologue. I knew that I was going to fall in love with the chemistry between Sophie and Caedan. The love between them is every love that someone wishes for, soul mate or not. I love the way that Micalea is able to bring that out through the characters of Sophie and Caedan.
