As a rule, I am not a huge fan of the romance genre. I like it more the icing on the cake, rather than the cake itself. (My mother likes to joke that what romance I do read, I read to roll my eyes at. She's mostly right.) However, once I got past the Romance part of this book, I liked it. There were a few points I almost rolled my eyes, but not many - mostly the "he's so handsome/she's so beautiful parts." If romance is your genre, I highly recommend this book.

As for the non-romance part of the plot, I was captivated it. It is nice and twisty - exactly how I like it. While I knew that, somehow, the Romance part would come out (they always do) I was continually kept guessing as to how or where or when or why they would get there. Secrets abounded, and you found them out all at the right moment, and you never felt as though you had too many or too few facts on your hands at any given moment - what was withheld only added to the mystery and drive to finish the book. It took about a quarter of the book, but I got to the point where I could not put it down.

That said, if you have a queezy stomach, I do not recommend this book. There's some delicate issues dealt with here, and some people would rather ignore them. True, these issues do need to be dealt with, but if you're one of the people who wants to ignore stuff that goes on overseas of a less than honorable flavor, this is not the book for you. It is so much more than a sweet little romance.

However, if you don't mind delicate issues, and you like Romance, this is the book for you.

An intriguing love story that takes the main characters on a long and dangerous journey. I particularly liked the description of Cumbria and Asia. It's very hard not to feel for Annora and Tad as their love, and their lives, are put in danger. The story of how they met and their troubled past is riveting and the series of upheavals they go through makes it a difficult book to put down. Well worth a read.
