Before launching her writing career, best-selling romance author Roxy Boroughs was an accomplished stage and film actor who appeared in the TV series DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH; and top-rated movies such as IT MUST BE LOVE, starring Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.
Look for her romantic comedy CRAZY FOR COWBOY; her suspense series PSYCHIC HEAT, featuring the award-winning novel A STRANGER'S TOUCH; and the popular FROST FAMILY CHRISTMAS series, marrying sweet romance with cozy mystery.
November 2021 marks the release of two original heartwarming holiday stories. Roxy is married to her first love, so she not only writes romance, she lives it! If she’s not typing away at her desk, she’s reading, quilting, whipping up a fabulous new recipe, or hiking around the Rocky Mountain village she calls home, where mule deer and bighorn sheep roam the streets.
A Stranger's Kiss is part of a series of books based in Bandit Creek. Each book is by a different author and so far I haven't seen any cross overs, but there are quite a few I haven't had a chance to read yet.
We meet Amy and her daughter Renee as they are fixing up the bed and breakfast that Amy inherited from her maternal grandmother. While there Renee finds a friend, but not the usual type. Her friend is ghost of a child murdered who is trying to right some wrongs. This isn't a huge part of the book, but it adds depth to a suspense filled story.
Amy is on the run, hiding both her and her child's identity mostly from Amy's mother. Amy's mother isn't the greatest of women and often hounds Amy for money. Always on the run, Amy just wants to protect the one golden light in her life, her daughter.
Sam Hutchinson is just looking to bring the killer of his son to justice, maybe even justice at his own hands. He has tracked the killer down to knowing Amy's mom. In search of the mom, Sam finds Amy and offers her a huge amount of money to stay at the bed and breakfast.
As a short time passes, the killer comes a knocking, along with the mom and a huge network of plot that has you guessing from one minute to the next. It's not a long story, nor a very complicated one. There were two very strong themes that almost had me stop reading. Not because the writing was bad, but themes I am uncomfortable with. The killer knows Amy very well and threatens her daughter. On top, Amy has had such a harsh life that she turns to sex to repay everything.
In the end, it all works out. All the plot lines get taken care of and a new one interestedly appears. The story offers redemption to both hero and heroine. Healing takes place and a new life of love begins.
An intriguing story that I had a hard time putting down.
Sam Hutchinson, a lawyer from Calgary, traveled to Bandit Creek, Montana, looking for someone who had information on his son Tommy's murder. He ended up staying at The Dewdrop Inn, the B&B that Amy Tesher recently inherited her grandmother. But what no one knew was Tommy's ghost was hanging around the B&B and Amy's daughter, Renee, had befriended him. Tommy knew trouble was headed their way and he wanted to warn everyone.
This book had a lot of twists and turns and surprises that I didn't see coming. I enjoyed learning more about the murderer, Morley, who was introduced in the first book in the series. I was blown away by the connection between him and Amy. I also enjoyed the romance between Amy and Sam. This book is a really great addition to the Psychic Heat series.
A Stranger's Kiss is a quick, fascinating suspense story about a woman hiding from her past and man struggling to overcome his. Amy has been hiding since she was a teenager from her ugly, damaging past. She has a beautiful daughter as a result, but their lives are not stable. They are constantly changing their names to keep one step ahead. Sam is on a mission to put his past to rest, to find the man who killed his son and try to overcome the demons of guilt that haunt him. When their paths collide, Amy and Sam start finding ways to heal each other, all while the danger comes closer.
A Stranger's Kiss is a novella, and a sequel to Roxy Burrough's "A Stranger's Touch." However, I had no trouble getting into the story, so it can be read as a stand-alone title. I felt for Amy and her daughter. Amy is a single parent trying to do the best she can while trying to hide from her past. I did have some confusion as to Amy's secretiveness. It seemed a bit odd to me that Amy worked so hard at staying under the radar and changing her name regularly, but then she came back to her aunts house to stay for a few weeks. To me, it seemed that if she really wanted to hide, she would never come back. I could have used a bit more clarification there.
I really did like the characters, Amy is a determined mother, and I felt for Sam, a grieving father who didn't realize what he had until it was gone. His losses taught him valuable life lessons, especially when it comes to spending time with kids. Sam gets along really well with both Amy, and her daughter Renee. Renee is an intriguing character herself, she is a spunky tween who can talk to ghosts. Her ability is unique and very strong, she can clearly communicate with Sam's dead son, and she is a key player in the story.
The romance between Sam and Amy is, at heart, pretty sweet. Both of them have hurts to overcome, but they find comfort in each other, and they make each other happy. Their relationship develops pretty quickly, and I'm not sure how believable that makes their relationship, especially considering Amy's past. But, by the end of the book I totally believe their relationship is solid, and I like how the book wrapped up.
Amy's past and Sam's quest for justice collide in this suspenseful story. I really enjoyed reading this book. Readers, if you like romantic suspense, I recommend giving this novella a try. I am curious about the other books in the series, and I will likely read more by Roxy Burroughs in the future.
5 out of 5 stars More Than I Bargained For!, February 26, 2012
Wow! I finished A Stranger's Kiss while on holidays and it was definitely more than I bargained for! Sam is searching for the man who murdered his son. Amy is the key to finding him and she quickly becomes much more…
Ms. Boroughs does an amazing job of creating deeply wounded, complex characters. This may be a novella, but it didn't feel like it because it was so well constructed. If you are looking for an intense, character driven thriller combined with a hot romance, this is the read for you!
Author Roxy Boroughs did an execellent job creating an atmosphere of supence, romance and paranormal. You instantly fall for the characters and will get wrapped up in this nail biter of a book! Just the opening page in itself is good enough to trap you...
You first meet Amy, a single mother who inherits a B&B and her daughter Renee, who talks to a ghost...Then comes a stranger named Sam, trying to find his son's killer...and Amy is the key to finding him....
Paranormal, Mystery, Suspence, Romance, and Redemption all combined for a satisfying read! I highly recommend this book.
This review is from: A Stranger's Kiss (Passionate Strangers/Bandit Creek) (Kindle Edition)
If you've never read a Roxy Boroughs book, you're missing out. This lady knows how to write! Tight plots, characters you can see and feel and enough excitement and thrills to keep you turning pages long after you should have shut out the light. A Stranger's Kiss is no different. From the beginning, when you realize Amy isn't using her real name, you know she's running from something, or someone. Enter Sam, the hunky hero with an agenda of his own, and a villain who makes your skin crawl and you have the makings of a superb novella. Ms. Boroughs knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and her quality writing will never disappoint.
This one is a nail biter! Think deserted Inn, being renovated by mysterious young single mother with a past (Amy Tesher), meets desperate stranger (Sam Hutchinson) with secrets of his own. It doesn't take long for Sam's demons to snake their way right back to Amy and her daughter, Renee. And that snake is a serial killer! This is a tightly written plot with well-developed characters who pull you deeply into their troubled lives - all the more to share the emotional high of their happily-ever-after. Don't miss Roxy's earlier linked novel, "A Stranger's Touch".
Roxy Boroughs writes stories that keep me on the edge of my seat. She did it with A Stranger's Touch, and now she's doing it again with A Stranger's Kiss.
The drama and twists in this story had me biting my nails, and worrying about the characters -- characters I had quickly grown to care about. For me, that's the best sign of a good story.
This might be a novella, but there's enough story that it feels like a full length novel. I highly recommend it.
Mystery and romance with a little paranormal thrown in makes this a great summer read. Stafford Web, a psychic with his own haunting past, is called in to help find an abducted child. Fighting his own demons he is pulled deeper into the case and the life of the missing child's mother, Maggie, as she struggles with her own past and trust in Staffords abilities as they search for Davie. A real page tuner with little surprises. Even better, this was a freebie on Kindle.
Packed with romance, suspense, and a happily-ever-after guaranteed to leave you laughing and crying, A Stranger's Kiss had me riveted from the opening page!
