A southern family struggles through the consequences of a chance occurrence, a crime unplanned. We are privy to their sorrows begun with the opportunistic kidnapping of beautiful fourteen year old Tessa, granddaughter in the three generation household. The staunch and respected family's roots in Louisiana started before the Civil War, but even in good families a bad apple can begin an avalanche of troubles. The tragedies test each until they're near breaking, many blaming themselves. The brutal actions of a disturbed cousin inflame family members. One is unable to let go of his desire for vengeance when the judge sentences the guilty to military service. He joins up to follow. Both are stationed in Okinawa and experience one of the worst battles of WWII where he seeks blood for blood.
IF I COULD ONLY SPARKLE
Rendered unconscious for a long period Tessa awoke without awareness of her circumstances. Taken to her mother's country home her awareness returns with a booming lightning strike to a nearby tree sparking a wish. After four years shrouded in darkness following her brutal attack she slowly recovers her memory of the events. She copes with her own changes, lost years and family loses while discovering her inner strengths.
Member since 2012 the first time. Please do not “friend request” me. I don’t honor this site, nor do I like to visit it. It is my opinion that GR has troll librarians who are conspicuous by their one star ratings, without ever bothering to buy/read the book. Nothing has occurred to change that opinion in over 7 years. I have books listed that are not supposed to be (never published) and a book that was listed for some time correctly is now missing and the toddler activity book listed in its place as part of the series. The titles are similar. The games never end. I have a very low opinion of this site, its owner, caretakers and policies. If you want to see my book listings and their true ratings look me up on Amazon.
*This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.*
Painted Tree Two Novellas is two short stories that start you out in 1941, an horrific crime and leads you through a family struggles with what happen and the events that followed and ending in 1945 with an awakening of a young girl and her struggle to recover from that awful day. I cannot say much more or it would be a spoiler. I will say that the Author has done another book with an imagination and writing style that gives the character’s depth that has you drawn into their world from the very first page. You feel the families heartbreaking struggles, passion for revenge and justice (an eye for an eye), and then to relive these through the eyes of the victim as she recalls her memories of that frightful day 4 years later.
Judith-Victoria you have written another beautiful 5 star story.
