This is a four in one omnibus put out by the Science Fiction Book Club and although I’d owned and read the first three to have all four in a hardcover at a reasonable price was worth it. These books are a spin-off from Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series. Bran, The Marrok (head of all the werewolves in America), has two sons. Sam the doctor who we know from Mercy and Charles Bran’s enforcer this series revolves around Charles and his mate Anna.
Alpha & Omega – this story was first put out in the anthology On The Prowl. Anna had been changed violently and against her will three years ago. She has been abused by her pack since day one as they try to convince her she is a submissive wolf. She isn’t. She is something special, an Omega. Anna reads an article detailing the death of a boy that Anna has seen in the hands of her pack leader. She calls The Marrok who informs her that Charles is on the way to investigate and could she pick him up at the airport. Charles is taken with Anna from the start but the abuses by her pack make her skittish. Charles cleans up the mess that is the Chicago pack and claims Anna as his mate.
Cry Wolf – Anna starts to learn about being a werewolf and and Omega. She and Charles grow closer. We meet “The Moor” Asil an old werewolf who lost his Omega mate two hundred years earlier. Charles is still recovering from being shot with silver in Chicago when there are reports of werewolf killings in the Cascades and Charles is the most capable of finding and stopping the killer. He and Anna take off after the killer in the snow.
Hunting Ground – Charles and Anna are now officially mated. They go to Seattle as Brans representatives at a conference to work with the European werewolves about the American werewolves “coming out”.
Fair Game – Since the American werewolves “coming out” Charles has been busy. Infringments of the law cannot be condoned and if the local Alpha is unwilling or unable to take care of the problem Charles is sent in to do the deed. The violence and deaths are taking a toll on him and he is closing himself off from Anna and everyone else. In a change of pace assignment designed to give Charles a break Anna and Charles are sent to Boston to help the FBI find out who is killing werewolves.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series. I had to re-read all the stories to get to Fair Game. Now I want to go back and re-read the Mercy series.
This is the omnibus edition of the Alpha & Omega series books 0.5-3. I love the cover art for this one! We never get to see Charles in human form on the covers.
This series is officially one of my favorite series. I read it for the first time this month and I immediately started it over again. I'm having issues being done with this series. I'm out of books but I don't want to quit reading about Anna and Charles. I'm going to be rereading these over and over again for years to come.
Book one Charles meets Anna in a very busy airport to look into Anna’s current pack. Charles and Anna have a instant connection that you a can feel of the pages but Anna being abused and Charles being a very dominant wolf make there meeting difficult. Loved this really short story but would have loved more. love the world and all supernatural creatures PB has in them. If you like this try mercy Thompson series it's amazing.
Book two Charles and Anna are mates and are sent to summit meeting for wolfs to decide about coming out to humans. So much happens in this book and goodreads doesn’t describe it well. Fantastic second book in series looking for to more about Charles and Anna.
Book three Great story. It's nice to see Charles struggling a little and Anna been the rescuer for once.
This is a collection of the origin short story and first 3 novels in the Alpha and Omega Series.
Alpha & Omega - 5⭐ The story about how Charles met Anna takes place during the events of Moon Called. From the start Charles and Anna are fully fleshed out characters with insane simmering sexual tension we just can't help but want to read more about them, so this started the Alpha & Omega Series.
Cry Wolf - 5⭐ Anna takes up the Marrok's offer of a fresh start at Aspen Creek, where she'll get to live with Charles, learn about the pack and make a decision on what her future holds. The injured but still sexy Charles is doing everything he can to keep his wolf's paws off his mate, but a man only has so much patience. Then a rogue wolf hunting and killing humans creates a mess that Bran has no choice but to send his son out to fix. And decides to follow.
Hunting Ground - 5⭐ Anna and Charles attend a summit of Werewolves in Seattle to present Bran's controversial proposition: that the wolves should finally reveal themselves to humans. Inter-species politicking ensues as werewolves are not of one mind, the moderator is a fae and vampires make a power play. There is humor, pathos, thrills and death as Anna comes into her Omega powers, which let her do many things other werewolves, even Alphas, cannot.
Fair Game - 5⭐ Anna is assigned to "consult" with the FBI on a serial killer targeting werewolves, and this is the perfect excuse to get Charles out of his role as the Marrok's enforcer. While Anna and Charles play at Criminal Minds, they realize the serial killer is not just targeting humans and werewolves but half fae and fae as well, and something powerful enough to do this is bad news for all involved. The epic ending of this book has made this my favorite Alpha & Omega story so far.
I totally love Patricia Briggs and her writing. These tales made me love Anna and Charles even more than I did before! they are like any couple in the world with their insecurities of how their mate sees them and they are fierce I protecting them. Whether the law sees it right or wrong, I agree with them - and with Bran. I love the world Patricia has brought me into and I can not wait to see what comes next - maybe Mercy can meet and work with Anna...who knows?
I love the Mercy Thompson book series. That lead me to the Alpha & Omega series. This series has everything that draws me in. A great heroine who is both strong but needs help. A strong male lead that has multiple facets. A bit of comedy that makes me laugh out loud from time to time. A great world of paranormal. And overall good story telling. I love this just as much as the Mercy series.
The Alpha and Omega series is one of my all time favorites. I find myself re-visiting the stories and re-reading them at least every 2 years. I also have the audio books and love listening to them on long drives or flights.
Comfort reread. Werewolf romances are my guilty pleasure lol and this series grew on me a lot. Rereading it now, I appreciate how Anna's struggle to overcome PTSD is written and how she's such a strong character in terms of being resilient and kind. Wish there were more good werewolf stories.
Alpha and Omega:Call of the Hunt contains four books which are Alpha and Omega; Cry Wolf; Hunting Ground; and Fair Game. Each of these stories tell the story of Anna Lantham Cornick and Charles Cornick. In Alpha and Omega, we meet Anna for the first time trapped in a cycle of abuse and torture at the hands of her packmates directed by their Alpha Leo because his mate was going crazy with age. Charles rescues Anna from her pack to discover that she is a rare wolf called Omega. Charles is injured during the rescue and Brother Wolf claims Anna's wolf as mate leaving Charles to follow along. Will Anna remain abused? In Cry Wolf, we find that in the aftermath of the Chicago Pack fight and rescue changes where Anna is going to live from now on. There is trouble lurking in the Marrock's territory- a rogue wolf is hunting people which is not good for his plans to bring the wolves out to the public. The Marrock sends Anna and Charles out to hunt the rogue wolf while getting to know each other better. Can the rogue be stopped? Will Anna trust Charles? In Hunting Ground, Charles and Anna are sent to Seattle to negotiate with other wolf packs about the plan to bring wolves out into the public by the Marrock's plan. They are confronted with many problems and issues in doing this. Someone is trying to harm Anna and the negotiating . Charles and Anna must solve this mystery. Who wants to harm Anna and negotiations? In Fair Game, we find Anna and Charles not really speaking to each other. Anna knows that something is wrong with Charles but Bran cannot see it and won't listen to her at all. Charles is tormenting himself with the ghosts of his recent killings done in the Marrock's name. They threaten Charles hold on reality. Bran asks Charles and Anna to consult on a serial killer case for the FBI in Boston. Bran hopes the time away will help Charles cope with these ghosts and guilt. Charles slowly lets Anna into his torment but will it be enough. Can Anna help Charles? Can they stop this serial killer? Will Charles allow Anna to help him? Your answers await you in Alpha & Omega:Call of the Hunt.
Patricia Briggs is one of several authors that are what I like to call go to reads. I have yet to have read a book by her that doesn't fall into this category. The Alpha & Omega Series is set in the same universe as Mercy Thompson Series. I love that characters from both series make appearances in books. I'll admit I've got a soft spot for Bran. Please don't get me wrong I love Anna and Charles; it's just something about Bran that appeals to me on many levels. I look forward to the next adventure in the series.
A collection of the three Charles and Anna novels and short story published by SFBC, including the brand new novel Fair Game. I really enjoyed this omnibus of all of the Alpha & Omega stories about Charles and Anna very much. I don’t usually give myself the luxury of rereading all the books in a series when a new book comes out. Before Anna was made into a werewolf, she was studying music at college. As a werewolf, we see her turning to music in each novel to calm herself and the other wolves.
She sings “Simple Gifts” with Bran in Cry Wolf at a funeral, when she’s just come to the Pack and Montana.
In Hunting Ground, she and Charles are sent to Seattle to deal with European packs and she plays the piano, “Maple Leaf Rag” and “Mr. Bojangles” notably, when things gets dicey at a BBQ joint. Bran has decided that the North American werewolves are going to come out of their crates.
In Fair Game, the werewolves have been out for some months, when Anna and Charles are sent to Boston to help an alphabet soup of agencies with a serial murder— where werewolves and the fae are the victims. My favorite moment in music in this novel is when Charles hears the captain of a fishing boat (and werewolf) whistling “The Mary Ellen Carter” and wishes it were instead “The Witch of Westmoreland.” Yes, there’s a moment at the beginning when Anna plays her cello for Charles, but she plays Pachobel’s Canon and Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1. Eh. I wish she chose Stan Rogers, too.
Alpha and Omega: I first read this in the On The Prowl anthology by Patricia Briggs and other authors. This short story belongs to a series called The Alpha and Omega. It is a spin-off of the Mercy Thompson series that this author writes. If you have read the Mercy series, then you should be familiar with Charles, which is an unforgettable character. I liked Anna and was very glad she was a strong female character. Anna's back story is pretty sad, so I was so glad the author gave her a happy new beginning. This is a really sweet story full of character information. I honestly didn't mind how short this story was because I know there are several books after it. 5 star rating!
Cry Wolf: I recommend reading the novella Alpha and Omega before you read Cry Wolf. I enjoyed reading more about Charles and Ann. Their journey of choosing each other and how they adjust to their new life together was interesting. A bonus was learning more about Bran the Marrok, and his past. 4 star rating!
Hunting Ground: I liked reading more about Charles and Anna. I really enjoyed Anna coming out of her shell, and not so scared of her shadow much anymore. This book however took me a while to get through. The pace of the story was like a roller coaster, slow then fast then slow again. I already figured out who the villain's were before they were revealed. Which was a bummer, I really like a good mystery. I liked it good enough but I felt it was missing something. I can't say if it was the characters, or the story it's self. But it was lacking something for sure. 4 star rating!
Fair Game: I really like Charles and Anna. I love how they save each other from whatever they need saving from. Fair Game was a pretty decent crime drama mystery. I guessed whom one of the killers were early on. That didn't hurt the story at all, though. Briggs pegged the justice system dead on. We shall see what this new plot twist does for this series and the Mercy series. 4 stars!
Love, love, love Charles and Anna!!! I really hope that there is another book to keep adding to their story. Prequel: -Anna calls for help, reporting a murder that was committed by her pack in Chicago. The Marok sends his son, Charles, to deal with the problem. He didn't expect for Anna to be his Mate. She is rare for a werewolf, an Omega. Can Charles, the only werewolf to ever be born, can him and his mate truly have a life together. Cry Wolf: -Anna and Charles agree to their mating, but can Anna ever get over her abusive past to accept and love Charles? Danger lurks in their backyard. A werewolf like thing is killing people, trying to pass itself off as a rogue. Charles is still injured from his fight with Anna's previous pack. Can he protect them and still fight this menace? Will they figure out what is wrong with their bond? Hunting Ground: -Anna and Charles make a wonderful couple. She was able to let go of her past, but never forget it. Their bond finally came through when the Marok nearly killed Charles, but she wouldn't leave him. Now they're on their way to Seattle. They have to settle the issues with the other packs around the world and let them know once and for all that the Marok is serious and is going to tell the world about the existence of werewolves. Fair Game: Something is hunting and killing werewolves and raping them. Men and women alike. It's up to Charles and Anna to figure out what and put a stop to it. They're working with human agents to solve the murders. Charles has shut Anna out of his life and he won't tell her why. Their bond is damaged and when Anna is taken by the very thing that is killing werewolves, can Charles handle himself and get her back? Will he get there in time to save her from repeating a dark time in her life?
I really hope there is another book after this... something to do with Anna having a baby.. :D
I just finished this one, and loved it. This is actually a collection of three novels & a short story in one binding. In this collection the author introduces a parallel view on her world, develops these characters and their relationships, ties the whole thing together with her previous books, and then, in the final pages of the final story, deals a blow that shakes her world to its core.
I picked it up from the pile of Briggs books I was given because of the mention of the Anna character in the Mercy Thompson book I had just finished. I figured it was time to read this one - but I'm afraid the final novel is beyond where my Mercy Thompson reading is. A chronology in the front of the books would be a helpful addition.
In all honesty, while I love the Mercy Thompson books, I never thought I'd enjoy this omnibus as much as I did. There's nothing quite so satisfying as sinking your teeth into a new series and falling in love with it.
It's both oddly romantic, familiar and fantastic at once... and while I'm not as smitten with Charles' new love as is the Marrok's enforcer, I still think she's a compelling character and one I'm interested in following more.
If you've wondered about the dynamics of Bran and his children -- both literal and figurative, you'll enjoy this book. I'm hoping that, rather than these short novellas, Briggs will commit some serious pen time to her "new" power couple.
Lots of action, plenty of fun! But really, almost every page has to go into the whole Alpha Dominate, submission....that rather made it a bit tiresome for me. Seriously, anything that jealous every minute of every breath you take wouldn't last long in a relationship. I don't believe every time a guy walks into a room there's that much huffing and puffing to see 'who's the baddest'. And I didn't need to be reminded on almost every page the hierarchy. Otherwise, I did enjoy it for the most part. Looking forward to seeing how all of it's going to tie in with Mercy next time around!
I am absolutely, positively in love with this series. I adore Anna and Charles and love how Anna comes to find her own strength through the series. I seriously cannot stop re-reading the series!
