When EDGE operative Dillon Caldwell was given a mission to infiltrate the Sanchez Drug Cartel and bring down its head, Rafael Sanchez, Dillon figured it would be a long, grueling year that he might not survive. He had no idea it would be three horrific, gut-churning years, or that the price paid for his efforts would be a nightmare worse than abject failure.
Then, after his cover was blown, he watched in horror as his wife was slain in front of him. His parents were next. And his sister, who died, broken and burning, in his arms.
Dillon, wracked by loss and guilt, is nearly rabid in his hunt for Sanchez, intent on ending his reign of terror. What he finds along the way, though, will change everything Dillon thought he knew to be true. Washed up on a nearby beach, badly beaten and suffering from exposure, is the woman he thought dead for the past twelve months. His wife Sara is alive.
Dillon's stunned relief and joy are short-lived, however, shredded by the razor-sharp fangs of betrayal and kept secrets, scorched by the obvious disdain from a woman who may as well be a stranger. And if that's not enough, not only is Sanchez is still out there, but Dillon can't even trust the people he works for. Not when they kept the truth about his wife from him, not when someone on the inside burned his cover.
He's got a sadistic, murderous drug kingpin after him and someone from his own country betraying him. He's got a wife who is alive, but looks at him with loathing. And he's got the knowledge that, despite all best efforts, he has failed every single person he loved. Struggling with that burden is bad enough, but Dillon's plate isn't yet full. The stakes that he's played with for three years are raised higher still when he finds out that Sanchez has something of his, something Dillon didn't even know existed. And it's a game-changer in every way.
As KATIE BRYAN, I write CHICK LIT and ROMANTIC COMEDY. I'm the author of the WOOF BOOK series and Loving Logan.
I currently live in Georgia with my family, one overweight German shepherd and three very spoiled cats. I have a varied background in the military, the airlines, antiques, and medicine. My favorite career is writing and sharing stories with readers and fellow writers.
As KT BRYAN, I'm an action, adventure, ROMANTIC SUSPENSE/THRILLER author who enjoys good wine, great art, Tuscany, and a touch of mayhem. (You never know what you might see when you wake up suddenly in the dark.) I’m the author of TEAM EDGE. USA TODAY by Kathy Altman says:
"If you're looking for a darkly thrilling read as unpredictable as it is emotionally wrenching, look no further. With The EDGE of TRUST, KT Bryan deftly delivers all that and more. Both the plot and the characters are gritty and layered, the story's intensity rising with every turn of the page. The book can be graphic at times, but the brutal edges are softened by Sara and Dillon's poignant recollections of more innocent, remorse-free times. These memories provide a stirring contrast to the overpowering feelings of hurt and anger that shadow every interaction between Sara and Dillon — even when they're running for their lives. Bryan had me asking myself over and over again the question that signifies a gratifying romance: How in the world will these two ever end up together?
Dillon's journal entries, recorded during his time spent undercover, were my favorite part of the story. In the midst of the couple's agonizing over whether their marriage is dead (while dodging bullets and jumping off cliffs), these snippets written by Dillon reminded me how much he cared for Sara, since he wrote them for her. Not only because she's a journalist always on the lookout for an exclusive, but because, before the revelations about his supposed affair, and before the explosion that ripped them apart, he felt close to her, and his journal allowed him to maintain that connection. I would have loved to have seen, at the story's end, some reference to Sara finding these journals, to reading them, and her reaction to this heartfelt reminder that Dillon never stopped thinking about her. Never stopped loving her.
Bryan excels at plot twists — veering the story toward a road that isn't anywhere on the map.
Adventure, betrayal, revenge and redemption — trust me, you'll find it all in The Edge of Trust. And after reading this story you'll be as eager as I am to dive into the next book in Bryan's Team Edge series, The Edge of Honor. The hero is a Navy SEAL. Go ahead. Try to resist. Me, I'm not that strong. Because, you know, we're talking SEALs. Hooyah!
Finding books lately has become a slight challenge for me. As of late, I really just wanted to get my hands on a good romantic suspense novel coupled with military or black ops theme-- it never seems like a tall order, but it is definitely becoming one. I've read and re-read the popular RS novelists, and last year I stumbled on Kaylea Cross and thoroughly enjoyed her work. I wanted something new, so I spent hours on the computer searching for something that would fulfill my need. Then it happened I found the name KT Bryan on a blog, clicked on the book, read the synopsis, and I lost all the evening hours possible to 'The EDGE of Trust.'
I've said it before and I will say it again, my favorite reading moment is when you start out reading a book expecting it to be an average read, but by the end you are completely blown over by how much you loved it. KT Bryan has done it! BRILLIANT!
This book had it all! It moved at probably the fastest clip I've ever experienced. I was certain though at some point it was going to hit a snag, but it kept giving and going. Bryan propelled this story forward, with an amazing ensemble of characters who endured so much, and packed it full of action and adventure it was an absolute joy to read.
Dillon and Sarah were both strong willed, stubborn characters, that at times frustrated me so much (in a good way) I wanted to put them in the penalty box. Dillon and Sarah's trials and tribulations were brought to you by one of the darkest and brutal villains I've read in along time Sanchez. I would feel remised in not declaring a secondary villain, Sarah's demonic father. Even though his scene was brief, and gave you insight into Sarah and her brothers childhood it certainly packed a punch! I wanted to reach into the pages and strangle him myself.
I consider it a sign of a good author when they ravel the reader into their web of adventure, deceit, loyalty, loss, and love. By the time I reached the end Bryan had me woven in, and gave me this bubbly excited feeling that wants me to sing this books praises and proclaim "It's a 10 star! Grab this book, and hold on! You're in for a great ride!" I simply can not wait until the next addition. My only hope is Bryan has a lot more to say, because I am ready to listen!

K.T. Bryan doesn't just kick off her Team EDGE series with this powerhouse of a story, she fills it with rocket fuel and launches it straight into the stratosphere. Powerful writing, a hell of a plot, and two flawed characters thrust into one incredibly perilous situation after another are the backbone of this awesome debut. As in all things, the devil is in the detail, and Bryan proved herself adept and snagging that devil by the throat, slamming it down on the page, and introducing her characters to hell. Gut-churning emotion, sweat-soaking suspense, and so much action I felt like I needed a nap after, The EDGE Of Trust snatched me up and commanded my attention through every single white-knuckled page.
Sure, there is no shortage of like-themed romantic suspense out there. There are certainly elements in this book I've read elsewhere. It has a military flavor, of course, and the former Navy SEAL alpha male warrior, now an EDGE operative, with plenty of testosterone and a rabid sense of duty to cause and country. The Bad Guy, head of a Mexican drug cartel, is an extremely violent sociopath who is so coldly ruthless it's a wonder he doesn't shit ice cubes. You'll surely recognize him, too, for all that type has been portrayed in everything from books to television to movies.
The plot, too, didn't have a whole lot of surprises in the direction it took or in it's major points...but how it was set up, fleshed out, and executed in full was superb. The fluid timeline, including moments of the past interspersed with current events, so often a stumbling block in books, was handled exceptionally well. Readers are treated to a fairly comprehensive view of the lives of the characters leading up to and including the real-time crises without once obscuring the main plot thread. Of note, I loved the passages from Dillon's journal, as it gives readers insight into the emotional price an undercover agent pays and how his character in particular evolved during his undercover assignment.
And when it comes to Dillon and his wife Sara as characters, we reach what, for me, elevated this book from a solid suspense read I really enjoyed to one of my favorite reads this year. Not only were they deliciously flawed and grievously wounded individuals (preferred for the depth it gives the characters), but their emotional baggage and all their issues were ripped open and exposed in deliciously gritty, brutal fashion, in actions and reactions, fights and fury, angst and passion. It wasn't always pretty, certainly wasn't traditional for a romance novel, but it was so damn realistic (within the fictional framework) that I was left shaken by several scenes, my heart in my throat and my stomach in knots.
Grief, confusion, betrayal, guilt, blame, shame, and worse...including ugly emotions that danced dangerously close to hatred, Bryan gleefully dipped her brush into them all and splattered them into the gaping, bloody wounds of her characters' lives. The result was a story-long evolution of a relationship, one that provided an unflinching and brilliant portrayal of two characters who used to love each other very much, then lost it all...or gave it away, and now have to deal with the aftermath of every painful choice and uncertain decision if they are going to have any hope of peace. Never mind absolution.
It was messy and harsh as hell, and made for some gripping, frustrating, and agonizing reading. I loved every second of it.
This definitely isn't a book for the faint of heart. Not only was the emotional gamut fairly harsh and unrelenting, but Bryan doesn't shy away from scenes of physical brutality either. While the majority of the book was fairly average for the genre in that regard, there were at least three scenes I can think of right off the top of my head that pushed the envelope. One was graphic enough and included subject matter that hit me hard, and I'm not a particularly sensitive reader.
I am a reader who appreciates Bryan's ability to create the sort of story she's written here. Well-written and complex, taut and emotional, action-packed and exhausting, this series debut is the whole package. It's one of the best romantic suspense novels of this type that I've read and one of my favorite reads of the year. In short, wow. Awesome read.
Disclosure: A copy of this book was provided to me by the author for review. This rating, review, and all included thoughts and comments are my own. ~*~*~*~ Reviewed for One Good Book Deserves Another.
I bought this book thanks to the amazon.com reviews. I thought the book might be good, but really… 18 out of 18 five stars reviews. That was too much. I had to check that out for myself.
This book was absolutely amazing. My head is still spinning from all the action. Right from the start I was engaged with the plot I was unable to put the book down. Everything was very believable; I felt like I hiked the jungle and jumped into the waterfall, my heart skipped quite a few beats in numerous part of the book, not to mention it broke altogether in a Q & A in a cave.
OMG I cant describe how much I loved this book. What a wonderful surprise this was.So much drama and suspense. This book just shows that loves always finds a way. I have got to get my hands on Jake's book as soon as its released.
What I thought set this apart Dillon and Sara and were so motivated to protect the other, but each made decisions that wound up hurting the other, sometimes emotionally, sometimes physically. There was a point when I thought Dillon should give up on Sara, and then later on, when I thought Sara should give up on Dillon. But in the end I found myself feeling that they could survive as a couple.
And all this relationship drama took placed as adventure, explosions, shoot out, car crashes, bat attacks were taking place all around! It might sound a little silly but it worked.
Only critique I really had is that it felt like the author threw in everything except the kitchen sink. In other words, there was a little too much going on in the backstory, secondary characters and tantilizing hints about future adventures. On the other hand, I will be looking for those very books as they are published!
After reading the first chapter, I've decided this book is not for me. The first sentence gave me my first clue but I decided to finish the chapter. I wasn't going to give this a star rating out of fairness. I changed my mind today as I was reviewing ratings. I review the one and two star ratings before I read a book to determine if it has elements that I don't care for. I've been grateful for some of those ratings. Not that the book is bad, but that it contains elements that I don't personally read.
Why didn't I like this one? Well, I don't care for descriptions that include "boglius, boss, and totally chill." Additionally, I hate anatomical references.
From what I've read so far, I think the violence is going to get a bit more graphic than I care for.
This was a great book! The book starts out with Dillion, a Navy Seals EDGE tam member seeking revenge on the drug cartel leader, Sanchez, who killed his wife, parents and sister a year ago. Dilion finds out his wife is alive when she swims onto the beach at the naval base where he is working. He sets out to find and bring down Sanchez while trying to keep his wife safe. This book has great action, a little romance, and a lot of emotion. You can't help but to like Dillion and his wife Sara as they struggle to stop Sanchez and put their lives back together. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
An entertaining romantic suspense that is light on the romance side and heavy on the angst and action. I very much enjoyed reading "The EDGE of Trust".
Who is leaking confidential information to a powerful drug lord allowing him to always stay head of Navy SEALs and Team EDGE? That is what Navy SEAL and Team Edge member Dillon Caldwell is trying to discover, along with the DEA and the Admiral of Team EDGE.
This book has it all. The thrills of an action book, the action of a thriller. Throw in a crazy romance, and it's everything you could ever want in a book. From the heart pounding suspense, to the heat it up love story. Dillon is by far my new fave book boyfriend. I love stories that include military men, navy seals, hot muscly guys! This was one of those books that you just couldn't put down! I'd go into more detail, but I def don't want to ruin it for anyone else!
I got this book free a few years ago, I finally got to reading it. Let’s just say I understand the desire for drama but the interpersonal drama was a bit over the top. Lot of repetitive comments, the 2 main people doubting each other and not talking to each other ( plots of eye rolling on my part). And the last escape was also a bit questionable. But it was entertaining at least.
The Edge of Trust was an okay book, but I expected a lot more. As the story moved along,l didn't know who to trust anymore; Dillon's mission was to infiltrate the cartel by gaining the trust of the family leader, Rafeal. He eventually gets in and is assigned to provide security for the leader's family. Initially, he was to spend only 1 year undercover, but spent three years instead - getting close to his boss' daughter and wife this time. There is also no explanation as to why his stint lasted so long. All this time, his real wife, Sara, is alone and kept in the dark about what he is doing..
Tragically, Rafeal's wife and daughter are killed in a car bombing that deeply affects Dillon because of the relationship he had with them. After all, it was his job to protect them. Then, somebody leaks Dillon's real identity and mission to Rafeal. The ruthless cartel retaliates, killing Dillon's wife, sister and mother. The story picks up a year later. Dillon's dreams are filled with memories of his past wife, which seem to wear him down. I got confused by going back and forth in time and following conversations between the various characters in this ride through time.
Suddenly, Dillon's wife, who was thought to be dead for the last year, washes up alive on the beach near his home. Most of the higher brass in the agency knew she was alive, yet nobody told Dillon - making me wonder who to trust going forward.
During the rest of the book, Dillon and Sara continue to bicker and question one another's feelings and integrity. Heck, she even insisted that he closed his eyes while she changed for the night and then slept alone. I would have expected a ravishing night instead. They were married, yet behaved like seven graders on a field trip, which annoyed me. Don't get me wrong, the book is also filled with edge of your seat suspense that will keep readers riveted and engaged, but it seems like these discussions become "filler" in between.
Dillon and Sara travel to Colombia in search of Rafeal and his brothers with revenge in mind. Little did they know, Rafeal's deep jungle fortress is protected by the latest security technology - infrared scanners, video, heat sensors, etc. and they are quickly captured. The bickering and feelings for one another continue to be debated...will they finally come to terms? Will they escape and be successful in Dillon's personal quest to destroy the family? Who will survive?
If you like romance (?) mixed in with action scenes, ruthlessness and killing, then this book is for you.
John Podlaski, author Cherries - A Vietnam War Novel
I really wish there was a 3.5 star rating for this book. The story was good with lots of action, it was well-written, but there were certain parts of the characters that I really didn't like. After 6 years of marriage, Dillon suddenly decides that he can't risk his back-from-the-dead wife's life anymore and wants to be noble and give Sara her freedom, and thus, protection. Admittedly, he has gone through the pain of her death and losing her once, but if his memories of them are as good as he (and she) remember, he should realize sooner that he should grab on tight to this woman and never let go again. Dillon is willing to go up against a monster of a drug lord, but won't take the risk of fighting for the woman he loves. Not that Sara is really any better. She lost her husband, had a baby by herself, learned to run and hide and fight for survival's sake, but doesn't go full-force against her husband to let him know how she feels and that he should man-up and fight for their love as she plans to do. The fireworks and relationship between Sara and Dillon could have been much hotter. That said, the action against the bad guys was great. The author did a wonderful job of creating a villain that readers will love to hate. She also left room for spin-off or related books that would tell the story of Matt and Craig.
I absolutely loved this book. It was a rare read that I just couldn't put down. I loved the action, the plot and everything that went along with it. Admittedly I am an erotic romance reader so I figured any book without that element wasn't going to hold my interest. In my opinion, most non-erotic reads come across as stuffy and the characters are too uppity to even let the word "damn" cross their lips. But here K.T. Bryan gave us a story that had all the actions and believable lines that an erotic romance would contain, just without all the sex. That's not to say there wasn't any at all. There was one consensual sex scene, though not what you would expect. And I will forewarn you that there were also scene’s of child abuse. They were graphic, but were portrayed as memories.
I also thought she did a wonderful job with all of the secondary characters. They were great supporting roles that will lead them into future stories – hopefully.
The only objection I had with this story was some of the words used. I had to hit the dictionary at least a half dozen times before I finished the third chapter. But I guess I can chalk that up to building my own vocabulary, so that really isn’t so much a complaint.
High recommendations from me. I look forward to Jake’s story.
Well, I guess I'm in the minority here, but the further I read The EDGE of Trust, the more I shook my head. Implausible plot points, but more importantly, implausible emotional drama. The two main characters argue about the same thing over and over and over, in nearly identical phrases and verbiage, throughout most of the book. Every time I think one of them is going to rise above and act like an adult, they revert right back to 7th-grade hysterics. I can't tell you how many eye rolls I did, and by the end of the book it was like watching the same episode of Days of Our Lives ad nauseam.
It was also interesting to read a female author's take on a man's sexual thoughts. Yes, I know men think about sex a lot. But this was utterly ridiculous. "Holy crap, she's going to get shot! But man, her butt sure looks good." That isn't an actual quote, just me being facetious. But it's an accurate summary of about 1/3 of the book. Here is an actual quote: "Sex so hot his balls practically jumped up and danced." If you like that, this book is for you.
Finally, there is a child rape scene that was just a bit too graphic for my comfort.
Personally, I think there are much better books out there in this genre.
Wow..."The Edge of Trust" by Author KT Bryan is an exciting and captivating thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense, the romance, and the 'edge' to the story. I did not want to put this book down.
The main character, Commander Dillon Caldwell of the EDGE team, is in constant danger as he fights the kingpin of the Mexican drug cartel. Sanchez is a notorious drug lord who has no conscience, no scruples and a lust for power and money. Caldwell goes undercover in order to bring Sanchez and his notorious drug ring down but at the same time not only puts his life in peril but, that of his wife Sara's as well. Their romance and love story is intertwined to add to the compelling theme.
Author KT Bryan weaves an incredible story with many subplots occurring and the unpredictability of what's going to happen next adding to the suspense. She manages to masterfully tie all the loose ends together at the summation of this well-written and intriguing novel. I very much look forward to the next one in this series. Author KT Bryan is one talented author!
I received "The Edge of Trust" as a free Kindle download.
I came across this book in my kindle library that I had got back in March 2013 and I do not even remember getting it! Reading the reviews I thought it was about time I had a look! WOW!!! I wish I hadnt waited so long! I didnt quite believe some of the reviews that say you feel like you are inside the story, thinking it would have to be quite special to achieve that, but heck it really does feel like you are there!
I dont like spoilers in reviews. So it suffices for me to say that this author is really special. I read lots of books, but to be grabbed almost from the first word on the first page is really something! The story totally demands your attention from start to finish and you are almost racing to finish the book, but also sad you are coming to the end! Everything in the story was fantastically detailed and made for an enjoyable read. It is so descriptive that it does almost feel like you are watching the action unfold rather than reading it.
I would recommend this book very highly, especially if you are a fan of military/action/thriller genres. I now need to go and look at the next books in this series!
This was a fantastic read and I was so looking forward to reading Edge of Honor I didn't know it wasn't out yet but back to The Edge of Trust Dillon Caldwell is a great hero and Sara Caldwell a fantastic kick ass heroine. You get to understand Dillon's hatred for Rafe Sanchez when you read this evil guy killed all Dillon's family or he thinks that all his family was killed he doesn't know that his wife Sara is living and that they have a little daughter named Ellie. When Sara and Dillon get together to try and save her brother Matt and their daughter from the clutches of Sanchez and Dillon finds out who Sanchez right hand man Vega truly is leads to a marvellous end to a great book. So thank you KT and I will look forward to reading your next book in the dge series.
'The Edge of Trust' pulled me in from the beginning and didn't let go. The storyline was well written and well thought out. Full of descriptive scenery, whether beautiful or down right ugly, thrilling scenes, a ton of action and secrets coming unraveled. The banter between Dillon's team was funny. The characters were great. Well, except for the bad guys- they were utterly despicable. Dillon was a bad-ass who had mad skills. He was put in the middle of some pretty hairy situations, but his quick thinking and skill attributed to his success. Sara was a determined character and her strength pulled her through. The way the book played out was awesome. I can't wait to read the next book. A great add to your tbr list. Definitely recommended.
I picked up this book "The Edge of Trust", because of the title and the book cover. Trust is a commodity that is often eroded in relationships and I was interested to see how the author tackled the subject matter KT Bryant has described a relationship problem that rarely gets discussed and I found that highlighting this issue was quite enlightening. Dilemmas were written about such as: Why do we hurt the people who mean the most to us? How complex and convoluted are the mind games we play with each other, the positive goals are often hidden by negative behavior. Thanks KT, a good read!
This was a free download & it was ok. I felt at times that I should have enjoyed it more & there were some good scenes in the book. But I didn't get into it as much as I thought I would. There were times when I wasn't quite sure what the timeline was and got a bit confused as to whether the story was 3 years in the past or the current time.
Nevertheless it was fun storyline & the author has set it up nicely for some other storylines so it will be interesting to see how things go with the other characters.
What a ride! It is a rarity when I rate a book 5 stars, but if anything I've read in a long while has warrented the ranking, it's this book by K.T. Bryan. Fast, edge of your seat suspense. I'm envious of her writing style-she pulls it off with apparent ease. I loved the way she kept the hero on his toes emotionally with the woman that he loves right up to the end. As a male of this race, I felt I could relate with the hero, and if I'm not mistaken, K.T. is a woman. Way to go! You got the perspective down pat. Looking forward to many more of your stories.
This was a wonderful book. The characters were well thought out with flaws and strengths. I read a few chapters each night and had to force myself to put it down and turn off the lights. The only thing I found hard to read was the journal entries. They seemed out of place, but they gave such great insight into Dillon that I knew they were necessary to the story. They were just oddly placed in my opinion. If you enjoy romance, angst, action and adventure, then read this book. You won't be disappointed.
I got this ebook for free from Amazon. I'm very happy I didn't pay for it. I didn't enjoy it at all. I wish I had spent the time reading something else. The violence was entirely too graphic, the romance was nonexistent, and the story was too contrived. I couldn't get invested in the characters. By the end, I just couldn't be bothered to care what happened to any of them. I won't be reading Book 2 in the series.
I really wanted to like this one, but it felt like it was stuck in an interminable loop, with the main characters getting caught/found/trapped over and over again by the antagonists. It felt as though the author was trying too hard to create suspense and, after a while, it became predictable and frustrating, detracting from the overall plot. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be reading the rest in the series.
I really enjoyed reading this book and personally cannot wait until book two to learn more about Jake.
As a veteran I can totally relate to the relationships between the team members and also some of the struggles that Sara and Dillion were trying to overcome. I thought the book was realistic and worth the read.
I really wanted to like this book more than i actually did. It has all the elements of a good book, a good series, but i just didn't connect with it. It took me over 50% of the way in to care about the charcters and even then, i had to force myself to finish it because i wanted to slap the main characters most of the time! This was just an ok book - not good, not bad, IMO, just ok.
