Book 8 in the New Species series. Dr. Allison Baker is obsessed with saving the comatose New Species male. She has tried everything and there's only one option left. Alli will break every rule and put her life in danger by tempting 880 to wake, using only her feminine scent and touch. She just has to kidnap him and crawl into bed with him to make it work. 880 wakes in a different world with a small female who's been sleeping beside him, caressing him and wrapping her sweet body around his, teasing his senses. He lies silent and still, listening and evaluating each arousing touch, fighting his body's reaction. Hatred flares when he discovers she's human, but Mercile stole everything from him so he decides it's fair to take her in return. But things quickly change and he wants her at his side and in his bed. 880 has chosen a new name-Obsidian-the personification of dark and dangerous. He'll fight them all to keep Alli. No one will stand in his way.

I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.

No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.

I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

Obsidian’s life has been filled with darkness, pain and sadness and after being rescued from the horrendous Mercile labs, is now in a coma at Homeland.

Dr Allison Baker has been trying to get 880, Obsidian’s lab name, out of the coma and the doctors and the New Species Council are on the verge of giving up any hope of him ever waking up.
Feeling desperate and as a last resort, Alli kidnaps Obsidian from Homeland and takes him to a hidden cabin, where she can continue her efforts in reviving Obsidian.

This is a species male that has yet not been fully integrated into his new life of freedom, so when he awakens….of course we knew that would happen…how else could he and Alli ever have their HEA!!!! ….he finds himself in a world he knows nothing about. He’s a man of very few words!!!! Truly!!

Despite his mistrust and hatred for anything human, he finds himself strangely drawn to Alli to the point that it becomes an obsession. He takes orders from no one – the only thing that matters in his life right then is Alli. She’s the person who he allows himself to care for.

This male species is one hell of an ALPHA MALE……….he does not take NO for an answer ever.

I am getting really attached to the characters in the New Species World. I love the interaction between them, how much they value their freedom and their colleagues and friends.
A sweet love story.

*Spoilers*

Obsidian is the 8th book in the New Species series. I didn't feel it at all. It was just Meh at best. So Obsidian is about 880 later named Obsidian who is in a coma when the book starts and has been for months, is kidnapped by Dr. Allison Baker. Allison steals the NS male because she believes that if she can make him want a woman's scent she can wake him up from his coma and she feels she has no other choice. She went to Tiger and Justice with her idea and they told her No. So she took him knowing there would be hell to pay, but knowing she couldn't just stand around and wait for him to waste away to nothing and die. It worked Obsidian is awake and he wants Allison for his own and he is out of control and all hell breaks loose!

Obsidian:

 photo ba20d87b039007d58bca9ddb4b246fc9_zps3wpsvldj.jpg

Obsidian was way over the top like a roided out aggressive meathead. I know he was newly freed and didn't know the world around him and that he had a bad bad life, but he was rude and acting like a jerk! He was a bully who flipped out every few minutes. I didn't find him sexy at all I wanted to slap the shit outta of him and tell him to

 photo download 5_zps7vzvspww.jpg

"Do not insult yourself or me. I am not blinded by her memory. You are very appealing but you believe I am so baffled from my long sleep that I don’t know the difference? I am not a victim. I’m a survivor and I adapt. It’s what I do best.” His thumbs kept teasing her skin, making her very aware of his touch. “I want you despite your flaws. You lure me to you and you make my blood boil with need.”

“I’m not him and you are not 46.” He tilted his head slightly. “This isn’t wrong. It doesn’t feel that way. This is right. Feel it.” He paused. “Feel me.” He released her hair and cupped the back of her head, pulling her mouth to his.

“You are mine! There is nothing to fight about. I will win.”

Allison:

 photo 59384-Long-Blonde-Wavy-Hair_zpsugj194u3.jpg

I didn't really like Allison either she was like a timid mouse that let him and everyone else walk all over her. If the wind blew hard she was frightened. She let Obsidian bully her almost the whole damn book, and she was super insecure about her relationship with him.

“You heard me. Don’t glare at me with that mean look. I’ve let you bully me this far but you just crossed the line—the Grand Canyon of them.”

“I’m in love with you and that’s why I can’t allow you to make a mistake this big.” Those tears spilled over her lower lids and slid down her face. “I would do anything for you and I wish I really was the one you wanted to spend the rest of your life with.” She took a shaky breath while he did too. “This is too fast though and you have no idea what is out there or what your future could be like if you weren’t tied to me.”

 photo 63472-ben-stiller-dodgeball-gif-X1LA_zpsrt1y0u5s.gif

I didn't connect to them as a couple at all , didn't connect to the story line. I didn't feel any steam or romance. It was just ok at best. At times they both got on my nerves. I did enjoy Breeze. I didn't like that they fired Allison for kidnapping Obsidian, after all she did save his damn life and they rewarded her by acting like she was a evil trust breaker! It pissed me off that they let the psychologist talk to Allison like she was a rapist. I think it was bull crap that they separated them, because he was too wild and they would have to put him down. Really? That drama felt forced. He was just freed and out of a coma and was learning they didn't give him time. Not to mention if he mated with Allison, which he did, that would make him act a fool not better. It made no sense and would have made Obsidian not trust them since they told him they wouldn't take his mate away and that is the first thing they did!

 photo giphy 7_zpsgh1mpnfb.gif

I hope the next one is better cuzz this was blah! I leave you with the only part of the book that made me smile a little. I didn't really have a favorite moment.

“She stole you to save your life. I want you to understand that. She cared for you and stayed by your side. She put her life at risk to save yours. Do you know what happened to her?” “No.” “They locked her up. She’s a prisoner inside her home. She isn’t allowed to be a doctor anymore and is no longer trusted.” Anger deepened her voice. “We don’t agree with that but the males won’t listen to us. They are butt hurt over her being able to steal you as easily as she did. A mere little human smuggled you past all their security measures.” “Butt hurt? Did she give them injections to make them unconscious?” “No. Their pride is injured and they are being stupid,” one of the women by the door softly growled. “You’ve got to help her after all she did for you. It is the right thing to do.”

Obsidian: a black natural volcanic glass formed by the rapid cooling of molten lava.

Lava

This is the eighth book of this series and I have enjoyed them All!!! Patient 880 has finally awoken from his coma. And just like all recently freed New Species, he has chosen his own name>

Obsidian. She tried to think of the definition. A lot of Species preferred to take a name that had meaning to them. “Isn’t that a lava rock or something along those lines?”

He growled. “It fits me. I am burning inside and hardened by the life I was given."

Obsidian

Obsidian's book was story of self discovery. All Obsidian has ever experienced from humans, is evil and hate. They gave him a mate. Only to murder her in front of him. His story infuriated me and broke my heart at the same time. I had to practice patience with Obsidian, because he was so raw and wounded. I loved his transformation as he discovered life and found unconditional love.

New Species

Laurann Dohner has managed to keep this series fresh and interesting. Each character is unique and none of their love stories are similar. I love that and hope for many more New Species Romances.

The lost cause!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💚💜
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 🤓😉🤨😊
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Dr. Allison Baker - she is working for the NSO medical staff and it is her job to take care of 880 who was rescued from a small contingent of Mercile employees who went off the rails after most of the New Species were rescued and the NSO was formed. Since he was found he has been in a coma and none of the Mercile drugs that usually work on New Species to speed healing have had any effect on him.

The Hero: Obsidian (a.k.a. 880) - He is New Species and while he was still with some Mercile employees, he had to watch his mate being tortured and killed in front of him to keep him in line. He lost all hope and didn’t want to live anymore. He is an alpha dominant male who has darkness in his soul because of all the abuse he suffered and what was done to his mate.

The Story: Alli believes that finding a new female will be the only thing that wakes 880 from his coma, and she intends to help him by doing everything she can. None of the other New Species recognized him so they don’t know what all was done to him other than the loss of his mate, and they don’t know what he will be like when and if he wakes. Alli decides that the best way to take care of him is to kidnap him and keep him exposed to only her. She lays next to him in bed and touches him whenever she can, washing and brushing his long hair and talking to him.

This series reminds me a lot of the Breeds series by Lora Leigh as they are both about DNA experiments resulting in humans with animal DNA who were held by an evil corporation and treated extremely cruelly. In both series, they are rescued and end up living in a sort of free compound. I read most of that series and loved it and I am loving this one as well. I like that Laurann Dohner is great at building suspense within a story, there have been many times so far in this series that I have been on the edge of my seat.

This book is told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Vanessa Chambers. Vanessa’s voice is very pleasant and sonorous. She is terrific at doing different voices for different characters and there are a lot of characters in each of these books, so that can’t be an easy job, but she does it so well.

For all my Alpha-Caveman loving friends, this book is definitely for you. Obsidian alphas the hell out of this book! Even the other New Species are like, "bro, take it down a notch!" Even Kristen Ashley is like, "This guy is going a bit too far in the alpha thing." Yeah, it's like that.

When they bring Allison a bag of her clothing, Obsidian immediately starts rifling through it, inspecting every article of clothing.
"These cover your breasts, don't they?" He stared at her chest.

"Yes, it's a bra."

He growled and threw it over his shoulder. It sailed through the air and hit the opposite wall across the room. "You won't wear that."

Personally, I didn't find anything attractive about Obsidian because he was way too much of a big ole jerk for me, but I did find him endearing at times. He was a protective caveman who needed love from a mousy submissive woman. Allison fit that need - so good for her! She doesn't need a man who will ask her opinion, allow other men to look in her direction, let her leave the house, or have any form of verbal communication. Those things are not necessary for happiness - only a hot guy is important.

Everyone's priorities are different.

So, this book wasn't my favorite, but it didn't suck too hard. I'll give it a meh rating...

** 3 1/2 stars **

The story was good for the most part but I am soooo tired of the way every story has a conflict because other people butt into a relationship/mating. The drama and separation in this were ridiculous and unnecessary, why would they listen to a bad psychologist whom they all hate? Why wouldn't they get a different psychologist at their place?

I also don't like how the New Species don't seem to be in control of their homeland, I guess I am spoiled by the Breeds who are in control and much more advanced.

The story started out promising but I felt the romance was rushed and under developed. I also had issues with all the people butting into their lives and the separation, so it lost some points for me. I still don't understand why they couldn't have lived together in the Wild on Reservation and he could have slowly acclimated to his new life.

This guy!!

Think he's my favorite Species so far, I absolutely loved him!

I have to admit, I liked this change in pace in the series. This time, the chick doesn't get kidnapped/burned/almost killed and it felt like a breath of fresh air; even more, she's a bit of a badass in her own way and I really really liked her personality.

But let's leave the girl and the plot alone and focus on Obsidian! He's sooo so so hot!
Yeah, yeah, it's the 5th time I say this in my review, but I can't help myself, I loved his alpha nature (a really alpha alpha nature) and how he kicks ass and doesn't care! I can't help it, I love strong guys, and I love it even more when they have a great woman by their sides (it doesn't happen too often, so I appreciate it whenever I can find it).

Throughout the whole book I was like this

and like this

Now here's a version of a hot Obsidian.

I am a big Laurann Dohner fan, but I am so disappointed with Obsidian. She really missed the mark with this one. Whereas I loved the "Me Tarzan, You Jane" routine in Valiant, Obsidian just didn't do it for me! Simply put, I was bored and underwhelmed. I usually love Dohner's formula, but this go round no! The writing was stilted, rushed, and disconnected. I couldn't fall in love with Obsidian the way I have with other main male characters in the New Species series. I was left wanting and I think Dohner's problem with this book is that the foreplay she usually builds between the characters was absent and a result of poor writing. I felt like this book was too much dialogue and narrator driven. I don't need to be spoon fed and told what to think as a reader.

Alli's internal dialogue was unappealing because I couldn't connect to her character and lose myself in the story to become her. She was annoying. The writing in general had a lot of telling, but little showing and too many loose connections. So how does Obsidian go from being practically threatened to help and see Alli after the kidnapping to obsession and a mate claim? This part of the novel was too rushed and there should be another chapter between five and six. Obsidian's obsessive behavior was too childish and underdeveloped, whereas Valiant 's possessiveness was more endearing. That's my two cents.

Out of all Dohner's books, this is the only one where I wish I could get my money back. I love the New Species series, but Dohner needs to make it fresh again. Amp the writing up and leave the sophomoric pandering to the amateurs. The book should have started with the excerpt Dohner had shared before the book's release, right at the point where Alli had stolen Obsidian and then done a flashback to how she did it. The rest of the exposition seems tacked on. Also Alli was not credible as a doctor. She didn't sound educated whereas Trisha in the novels does. You expect a doctor to have a more developed vocabulary other than prosaically using the word "sucks" over and over again. The overuse so early on in the novel grated on my nerves. I get it, the female lead should be relatable with the female reader, but in this case I felt like my intelligence was insulted. Alli's intelligence was severely downplayed in relation to Obsidian's caveman vocabulary. I just didn't like Alli and Obsidian's "love" story because the plot was underdeveloped.

It was ok but i couldn't really connect with the H/h..
I appreciate the fact that the telling of this story brings another aspect to the whole world of NSO..

Yeah, thats Obsidian.. Crazy wild dog!! That wants to kill everyone, or at least attack anyone or anything..

Thank God for Moon and Breeze later that told him

Well in the end he made it .. And everything turned out great.. I like the end.. He was polite and more civil but funny too..
I would love for them to spent more time together and do things beside destroying beds.. Like learn how to cook together.. With more details..

Obsidian in the end..
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- I was happy seeing again my favorite male Moon..
- Also known what Brass does - i loved him and i'm hopping for a book about him..
- I loved the glimpses we had on Fury's and Justice's lives..
- Breeze was so good again and always helpfull like Trish..
- Obsidian was a bit too much for me at some points..
- Least adventurous of all the books of the series and i was totally fine with that..
- I Hate Kregkor and Kit..

“They aren’t my people,” he stated firmly in a husky voice. “You are.”

Man, oh man. I have so many feels right now and most of them are not good. Obsidian and Allí were great together. New Species not so much. First, Then, The more books I read the more I hate Justice. He’d rather play nice with the humans than to defend his people. That was torture and he used the same tactics Merciles used to control the males. I’m so surprised no one else has noticed this or has said anything about it. I’m still so mad they did it and no one apologized to the couple.

I was scared at the beginning of this story. Dr. Allison Gordon seemed very childish and a little crazy. Well, a lot crazy. But she grew on me and even Obsidian, the controlling bully (her words) grew on me. He didn’t know how to express himself so he did the only thing he knew to do. Control. Intimidate. Force. He had to do that before. His first “mate” and that relationship left some serious scars. Obsidian was expected to just get his shit together and function in a new world with people he didn’t trust. And honestly, he was right in not trusting them. Look at what they did to him. Still mad here. Anyways, even though the relationship had a rocky begining it was the real deal and I loved them together. I also really loved Moon and as always my girl Breeze. Breeze deserves her own spin off series.

**re-read**I can never get enough of Obsidian and his one track mind(Alli)

(not sure how many times I have red this one now) I love this book but them forcing Obsidian and Alli irritated me because that wouldn't have happened to anyone else but I love this book and Obsidian!
Laurann Dohner did it again, I loved this book! This is one of the best if not the best PR series I have read in a long time. Once I picked this book up I didn't want to stop reading it till I was done. Not only are the main charcters great but the side characters are just as good and she always gives us a glimpse into new story lines and updates on previous characters. The only negative is that we now have to wait for book 9. Laurann Dohner and this series are auto buy for me.

OBSIDIAN & ALLISON

One of my favourite books. It made me cry more than the rest of the books.
The best scene was when Allison came back, Obsidian looked so happy and she thought he does not want her any more.
All good in the end of course...

Any release date yet??

If you are Jonesing for a dohner fix and have already re-ready everyting twice (or more) Abducting Abby (Dragon Lords of Valdier, #1) by S.E. Susan Smith is not a bad read, hot aplha males but not the hard assed non-emotional ones probably on the spice level of the Dohner Raines books though good value but be aware it is self published so some word usage issues - nothing i have not seen in other "published books" gasp even some of Lauranns' ones >.< lol its almost like a out of wedlock lovechild of NS/cyborg/Zorn series something to get you by at least.

This was an enjoyable entry into the New Species .The characters of Alli and Obsidian I felt complimented each other.Though not as an exciting read as some if the others, the story was tru to the characters.Obsisian was in a coma the first part of the story and Alli, his doctor was so drawn to him that she kidnapps his comatose body and takes him away from the hospital in order to make him come out of the coma by bonding to a female.Once he comes out of that coma, the story moves along nicely and held my intrest.Obsidian was the usual alpha, possessive male and will stop anyone who gets near his mate as he comes to think of Alli.

Each new book by Ms Dohner us eagerly awaited by this reader and chomping at the bit for her next book. This book was solid 4*** read and rec for all LD fans.

Not my favorite New Species book but still really good. I think I just had to adjust to 880 (later Obsidian) being such a dominant prick. I think I liked him better in a coma (just joking). However, this behavior just reinforces how badly he was treated at Mercile. He was also always in seclusion so his language and coping skills are not very good. There were some very touching moments...like when Alli teaches him how to give his first kiss.

I love the way that Moon and Breeze take Obsidian under their wing and help him to adjust to his new life. They never gave up on him...so sweet.

By all rights, this should have been a heartwarming, engrossing, and highly erotic story. Well, the erotic scenes are yummy, and when that's all I want, I'll come back to Obsidian. He is haaawt. And funny, always with the "mine" and giving orders in the bedroom. "Strip!"

I suppose I'm greedy, wanting some engrossing story to go with my sex, but -- wow -- there wasn't much happening here, beyond the solid gold opening when Dr. Allison (rashly, illegally, and unprofessionally) saved Patient 880 from death by disinterest. Those opening scenes were vivid, getting 880/Obsidian . I know from those vivid scenes that Dohner can write well.

But after that opening part, just tons of sex scenes, much like a ladies' porn flick. Don't get me wrong, I liked the sex scenes, but they became repetitive. And exactly how did Obsidian go from having to be bullied by Breeze into letting Alli see him (at Homeland, when he first came out of his coma) to instant obsessed mate claiming? As one reviewer said, "This part of the novel was too rushed and there should be another chapter between five and six."

There was so much lost potential for a heartwarming story here.I wanted to watch Obsidian emerge from his dark prison (figurative and literal) into the good green earth -- which should be momentous and magical -- so I needed some active scenes showing that.

I wish Dohner had portrayed -- in active tense -- Obsidian learning how to adjust to life in the free world. There could have been fun scenes showing him learning his way around the kitchen (instead of "I'll teach you some day"). He could bring breakfast in bed to Alli or simply get up early to prepare the coffee for her. Show him learning to drive the golf cart ( we got a teaser scene) and how to use the lawn mower.

And of course, the new species needed to learn socialization -- how to get along with others. Kindergarten basics. We didn't get to see that happen. Nope, we just got a chapter titled "Three Months Later" where suddenly Obsidian plays on a soccer team. Grrrr.

I felt annoyed and kinda cheated.

I wanted to see tender heartwarming scenes, not just sex. Show them talking, or caressing while watching a movie and eating popcorn.

But the sexy times sizzle. "Bend over!"

(-- not to nag, but why the hell did Darkness and Moon let Obsidian fight when challenged over Alli?? Of course he'd fight to kill. Duh!))

Another sexy, steamy book by Laurann Dohner! This one is my favorite out of her New Species series!! Of course everytime I read the next book in the series, I say that!! I love them all and I love the New Species males and have decided that I would like one all to myself!! Who wouldn't want a man who is loyal, faithful, sexy, and puts their mate first. Of course, they are a little dominating and controlling but hey, I could put up with that if the reward is eye candy and all the loving I could ask for!
This book begins with #880 who is in a coma and fading away fast. His mate was killed in front of him and he has lost the will to live. Dr. Allison has been taking care of 880, and has become obesessed with his well being. She fears he doesn't have long before it is too late and he will die. The other New Species feel her plan to bring him back to life by scent of a female is too dangerous so Alli takes it upon herself to kidnap him and fight for his life. Allison gets more than she bargained for with 880, who eventually calls himself Obsidian. He is extremely domineering and demands obedience. These two bond real fast but there are things that do get in the way. Will love conquer all so that they can be together? Or will situations come up and make it so they will have to be apart.
Of course it goes without saying that the sex with these two characters was explosive. There was also so much more to these two as well though. I fell in love with Obsidian and found his character to be so endearing. He had an innocence about him and the way he thought and understood things was so literal it was cute. Yes, he is rough, tough, and wants his own way but he is also extremely intelligent and very gentle with Alli, he just melted my heart. It was also nice to see some new characters come into this book as well as some old ones. I love all that Laurann Dohner writes, she is an auto buy for me and I was not disappointed in the slightest with the wonderful Obsidian. Once again I devoured this book quickly and am all set for the next in the series which I am sure will be highly entertaining and enjoyable. Thank you Laurann for the great writing and giving me a wonderful world to escape to when life gets to be to hectic.

Just needed to reread a new species book to get me out of my "wow real life is nuts" funk and this one was just as good as I remembered it. Love this series, love these characters. Just need so many more to be written.

5 STARS... I SAID FIVE MOLTEN LAVA STARS!
description
I didn't do a review the first time I read this, but I remember it was sizzling and so heartwarming.
My re-read only reminded me of how good it was!
I wasn't disappointed at all and it stayed as amazing as I remembered it. I just couldn't keep the 4star rating.

Dr. Allison Baker is obsessed with saving the comatose New Species male. She's tried everything to keep her patient with the living, but 880 wasn't getting any better. The people at Homeland were already giving up on him, so she suggests rousing him with a feminine scent. No one is willing to risk it or accept her proposal. Being denied the option, Alli finds herself forced to break the rules to save 880's life. No matter the cost.

First of all, I am a fan of Laurrann Dohner. I love her work. But I especially love her New Species series. That doesn't mean all of the books of this series are good. There are some better than others and putting my fangirl feelings aside, I am always honest with my reviews.

That said, I loved every freaking minute I spent reading this!
The world building was strong and it kept faithful to the previous books. The continuity seems natural, the events and characters add up perfectly. The pace was good and the writing flowed nicely.
I love how previous characters make an appearance and are still important. As I am thrilled to see new ones pop up to tease us, cause there's always a possibility for one of them to have their shine sometime in future books.
I'm still waiting for Flame, Jericho, Rusty, and others!

I love the fact that the MC's do not outshine the rest of the characters. The exchanges between all of them are part of the world building. There's a bit of action, a considerable amount of drama and sizzling hot scenes.

Alli...

Is a woman who's passionate about her work. She's sweet, brave and tries very hard to do the right thing. I love her inner struggles and how she tries really hard not to be selfish. Allison is flawed as she is virtuous. I love that Laurann manages to make female characters that are brave or strong in different aspects. They don't have to be necessarily badass, physically strong, fighters to be cool and loved. They don't have to be a Mary Sue to win our admiration. This author knows that.

Obsidian...

I am in love with this man!

He is a force of nature.
His background is heartbreaking and explains a lot of his thoughts and actions. He's a survivor and adapts. Obsidian is wild, tough, rude and possessive. But he is truly sweet and vulnerable at the same time. He's a quick learner, smart and naive...
description
His story pulls every string of my heart and takes me through a rollercoaster of emotions.
And the chemistry and love between the two MC's are truly beautiful. The dialogues between these two melt my heart.
Maybe there are some repetitive sections but I can ignore that. I also have a suggestion, because I feel there are too many doctors as heroines in this series. Its turned into a common trope. But it didn't make the story any less good. It's just something that might be cool to change cause there are so many amazing women out there that aren't necessarily doctors.

I love this story. I recommend it. And I'm totally reviewing the rest of the series which I have already read. Soon...

Loved Obsidian!

This installment was highly anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed!

Not one to ‘Spoil’ a plot, which is why I never rehash the novel—I will share that I loved how Ms. Dohner chose to take an unconventional route (from her previous books) to tell Obsidian’s story. Instead of the anti-New Species kidnappings, rhetoric spewing and shenanigans that normally take place this novel was truly about Obsidian’s struggle to become a citizen of NSO society and not the proverbial ‘lone wolf’ or ‘canine’(to use the appropriate reference =:-).

I welcomed the introduction of a few new characters (i.e. Darkness, Destiny, Book, etc.), reveled in revisiting beloved characters (i.e. Flame, Slade, Fury, Justice, Breeze, etc.), but absolutely allowed my ‘heart to bleed’ quite freely for Jericho!

*** An aside: Jericho needs an HEA! I will also take this moment to unabashedly advocate for an HEA for Flame, as well =;-).

The camaraderie and interaction among the New Species males was evident and the dialogue between the various characters produced a few hilarious moments. BTW, I <3 Darkness!

There really weren’t too many things I took issue with in this story. The standard literary devices that come to mind are couples not communicating and too much internal dialogue, but those pet peeves (of mine) were few-and- far- between, in fact, there was very little that vexed me with this story.

Overall the writing was crisp and succinct, something I’ve come to treasure with this author, whether it’s the New Species, Cyborg Seduction or the Zorn Warriors series. I just settled in for a good read… and it was! Looking forward to the next New Species novel!

4-1/2 stars.
Very good addition to this series. The blurb really didn't do the book any favors. If I had just been going by that I wouldn't have picked it up. It made the book seem like it was going to be sort of hokey and trashy. But it wasn't at all.

It was really interesting to see a New Species who was brand new and hadn't acclimated at all. I thought that the doctor's motives (which seem prurient on the back cover) were quite clear and not goofy at all. The connection between the two of them was intense and almost violently emotional.

The only reason I deducted half a star here is that I felt the ending lacked a little something. The rest of the book had been so riveting and intense I felt the end needed to be more sweeping and romantic.

I would say this is my 2nd least favorite book in the series, after Brawn, so far. I didn’t really like Obsidian and while I do get that he had it very bad before got freed and he has like zero social skills, still it annoyed me how he treated Alli. He pushed himself on her without much explanation but was able to talk with Moon about what bothered him. (By the way I love Moon and can’t wait to read his book!!)
However it got a little better later and in the end I thought they were cute.
Besides him I didn’t like the whole story too much. Sometimes it was super slow and then especially towards the end the story felt way too rushed.
I still liked this book, hence the rating but it’s a book I don’t see myself rereading, unlike most of the other books in this series.
