Deadly Trap is a book full of twists and turns, taking the reader into the art world of Italy. Initially intent on recovering two stolen paintings from Nick and Isabella’s families, they are soon embroiled in danger, surrounded by secrets, and not knowing who to trust. This complex story kept me guessing and each new clue only led to more questions. I loved this book and getting to know Nick and Isabella!

Danger, art theft, and a dash of romance make Deadly Trap a thrilling ride through the streets of Rome! I was hooked from the start as FBI agent Nick Caruso and journalist Isabella Rossi team up to rescue Nick's grandmother from danger and unravel a sinister plot. The stolen paintings mystery kept me guessing, and the family drama added depth to the characters. A perfect blend of suspense and romance in the heart of Italy!

A very special thanks to the author for the gifted arc.

Once again a page turning, attention holder from page one. Nick an FBI Agent and Isabella reporter didn't start out well but to help their Grandmother's they join together to solve the theft of family art.
Barbara Freethys Off the Grid FBI series keeps you guessing and turning the page throughout and throws a little romance as well. Highly recommend this book. I look forward to the next one.

I’m never let down when I read a book by Barbara Freethy. The story has us traveling to Rome and becoming immersed in the world of art. It is an intriguing, fast-paced thriller, with well-developed characters and wonderful world building. There are so many twists and turns that I was genuinely surprised many times throughout the book. Isabella and Nick started off disliking each other and watching them come together was fun and had me rooting for them. I absolutely love this series and recommend you read them all; however, this book can be read as a standalone.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.

Barbara Freethy has done it again! I absolutely loved Deadly Trap by Barbara Freethy, the thirteenth book in her Off the Grid: FBI series. Barbara Freethy has once again delivered an incredible romantic thriller with Deadly Trap and has provided her readers with amazing characters; I love all the characters in Deadly Trap! Who does not love hot, sexy men and strong, passionate women? Deadly Trap was an incredible romantic thriller, and I loved every moment on every page, it was impossible to put it down. It was an amazing story and I highly recommend it. I love how Barbara Freethy somehow manages to find the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong woman on her own, to balance out the career focused FBI agent. Deadly Trap is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. Deadly Trap is filled with everything that I have come to love and expect in a Barbara Freethy romantic suspense love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Deadly Trap had me guessing throughout the story as to who was behind the thrilling events that took place in this story. The identity of who was behind the art heist and break-ins was truly a surprise when it was revealed. I enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Barbara Freethy has once again proven that she is a master storyteller. Deadly Trap is the story of Nick Caruso, an FBI agent and Isabella Rossi, journalist. When Isabella recently relocated to Los Angeles her grandmother, Gloria and Nick’s grandmother, Anna set them up on a date, which was a total flop. Gloria and Anna are best friends and now live together. Nick had just finished an undercover case and his boss Flynn told him to take some time off. Anna reaches out to Nick to inform him that a family painting painted by his great grandfather, Tomas, was stolen from an Italian museum exhibit along with a painting by Gloria’s mother, Lucinda. Nick heads to Italy to help locate the missing paintings and discovers that Isabella is already there since she was in New York when her grandmother reached out to her. Isabella and Nick have not seen each other since their dreadful date. As Isabella and Nick are investigating the missing paintings several unexplained events occur, causing Nick to send the grandmothers to his Los Angeles home. An attempt is made on Isabella life, while Nick is taking the grandmothers to the airport. They are not sure who they can trust and continue to investigate the history of the paintings as well as Tomas and Lucinda. They work together to discover who is behind the art heist and another stolen painting from a painter who was associated with Tomas and Lucinda and more attempts are made on their lives. Nick finally decides to trust Isabella enough to share everything with her. I love the secrets that Isabella and Nick share with each other, especially Nick’s feelings regarding his grandfather’s death in a single car accident, Nick’s home life and his relationship with his parents and Isabella’s home life and her relationship with her mother. As they continue to spend time together, things change between them. I loved how the relationship between Nick and Isabella changes them, from mistrust and that they are both willing to take a chance at love. I love how they continue to tease one another about their disastrous first date. I really enjoy the poignant and bittersweet moments, the plot twists, and the surprises that fill this page turner that I have come to love and expect in Barbara Freethy's books and Deadly Trap did not disappoint. I love how they solved the mystery of the paintings, but it almost cost them their lives. I am glad that Isabella’s relationship with her mother, Sylvie, changed during the story and that Nick reconciles with his parents. I love the ending of Isabella and Nick’s love story, and the changes that Nick is willing to make in his career to have a life with Isabella. I love how all the loose ends get tied up and the revelation of who was behind all the events in the book. I love all the characters and the way Barbara describes the locations in Italy and the surrounding areas. Reading Deadly Trap felt like a family reunion, I loved catching up with the other FBI agents in the series. I received an advanced copy from the author.

As an avid reader of Barbara Freethy novels I always anticipate a new release! I just finished reading DEADLY TRAP, the newest story in her FBI series “Off the Grid.”

Nick Caruso is an FBI agent who has been working undercover, case after case, and desperately needs to take a break. His boss ordered a vacation and Nick is trying to relax and rediscover his “true” self when he receives a call from his grandmother Anna. She asked him to fly to Rome as she needs his help. She and her best friend Gloria Rossi are widows who live together, volunteer at a local art museum, and have recent ancestors who were artists. They each loaned a family painting to the museum for a special exhibit featuring local Roman artists. The women were late leaving the museum when a robbery occurred. They hid and were safe for the moment, but were stunned to find the only paintings stolen were the unknown and not particularly valuable paintings they loaned to the exhibition.

Isabella Rossi, granddaughter of Gloria and a noted journalist, is also summoned to Rome by her grandmother for help in locating the stolen art. The grandmothers previously set Nick and Isabella up on a date that was a disaster, and the two aren’t happy to see one another again much less work together to find out why the relatively unknown artist’s paintings were targeted; and hopefully to have the works returned.

Nick and Isabella reluctantly agree to work together after their offers to help the local police and the Carabinieri T.P.C. are rebuffed. What follows is a roller coaster ride of home invasions, gallery and museum intrigue, attempted murder, murder, characters who are hiding deep secrets, international art thieves, complex family conspiracies, and situations that are truly not what they seem to be.

Once again Barbara Freethy kept me up all night with a novel that I just couldn’t put down.

If you love romantic suspense, you're going to want to read Deadly Trap! This book will grab your attention from page one and hold it until the very last page. There are so many twists and turns that you’ll never see coming!

Nick is an FBI agent who spent his summers in Italy as a kid with his grandparents. Nick hasn’t been there in a year, since his grandfather died, but when his grandma calls and needs help he doesn’t hesitate to get on a plane and be there for her.

Isabella Rossi is a journalist who lives in LA. She’s on a vacation from work when her grandmother calls and needs help. While she hasn’t been to Italy in years, she’s always loved her grandmother and will do anything to help.

Nick and Isabella's grandmothers met at an art school after moving to Italy and became instant friends. Years later, after losing their husbands, they decided to move in together. Now Nick and Isabella are both in Italy trying to help their grandmothers figure out what happened to their family's stolen artwork. While they aren’t exactly thrilled to be working together after a disastrous first date back in LA, they’ll do whatever they can to help the grandparents they love. Nick and Isabelle are finding that there’s more going on than just the two missing paintings. The deception goes back generations and the more they discover the more they have to decide who they can actually trust. They're also realizing that there may be more feelings between them than they realized.

This is the 13th book in the Off The Grid series but can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend you read them all because this series is amazing!!!

I love Barbara Freethy novels and the FBI series is my favorite. If you like fast-paced, high adrenaline suspense, then this series will not disappoint.

Nick has just completed an assignment and he is burned out. He is urged to take a vacation to try to recharge. He flies to Italy because his grandmother, Anne, needs him. Anne and her best friend, Gloria, witnessed a robbery during their visit at a local museum where two paintings that they loaned were taken. Anne and Gloria are confused on why the paintings were stolen as they were not very valuable. Gloria's granddaughter, Isabella, has joined her to add support. The two friends had tried to introduce Nick and Isabella in the past, but that was a disaster, and this reunion is still contentious. Nick and Isabella believe that there is more to the stolen paintings after the home that their staying in is burglarized. They believe they have made someone nervous with the questions they have asked but there are so many suspects so they decide that they will need to be a team to find out why these paintings have suddenly become valuable.

Nick and Isabella know they are getting close to the truth because they find themselves in danger and they have no idea who is after them. As the stakes keep getting higher, their bond is getting closer. Both wonder if it is adrenaline or real feelings that they have. This is tested in the second half of the story.

The best part of these installments of the FBi series is that you go from 0-60 beginning in the first paragraph. They usually cover a span of a week, so there is alot of momentum to get to the end and the pace of the story is very fast.

Deadly Trap by Barbara Freethy Is the newest book in the Off the Grid FBI series. I can't believe this is actually the thirteenth book. I certainly have been following her and her books for awhile now and I enjoy every one. The books while having romance are also suspenseful. You never really know what's going to happen next.

In this novel FBI agent Nick Caruso just finished an undercover operation. He was exhausted and ordered to take a few days. He flew to Rome to see his grandmother, where she was part of a robbery and witnessed a crime. Only to find out the guard had been shot and the paintings that were stolen were from their family that they had lent to the museum. Nick and Isabella's grandmothers live together and have been best friends since they were 20.

His grandmother's best friend was with her at the robbery and she shared the same story with her granddaughter, Isabella Rossi. Isabella flew out to be with her grandmother in Rome as well. Isabella and Nick went on one horrid date and determined that they were not ever going to see each other again. Until their grandmothers needed them.

Why steal paintings from mostly unknown Italian paintings from 50 years ago? Why harass Nick’s and Isabella’s grandparents? Nick and Isabella start to investigate the theft and eventually people start to follow them and actually get pushed off the road.

Once again Barbara Freethy wrote a great book that was suspenseful with a great romance intertwined. Deadly Trap was a good read.

I love Barbara Freethy books. I have read and enjoyed all of them. She is one of my top 5 authors and a must-read when one of her new books is published. That being said, this was a challenging book for me to read. The reason it was a challenge for me to read is the art world and art theft is not usually a trope I enjoy reading, but I was willing to read it because it was a Barbara Freethy book. The MMC was Nick Caruso, an FBI agent, and the FMC was Isabella Rossi, an investigative reporter. It occurs in Italy. It had A LOT of characters to follow. The Caruso family = 6 people over 4 generations including Nick. The Rossi family = 6 people over 4 generations including Isabella. Plus,12 more non-family characters were added. That’s 36 characters and their backgrounds to keep track of and interacting with each other to solve the mystery involving art theft/murder/crimes/intrigue. I actually read the beginning 3-4 times trying to keep track of all the characters, and finally made a flow chart (like the detectives on TV do) to keep all of the characters and facts straight, which helped me follow the story as more characters were added. This is a good romantic suspense mystery and had a HEA after the crimes were finally solved. I highly recommend, but be sure you read it when you can concentrate on all the characters and the clues for the mystery. Whew! Intense challenging read!

Nick and Isabella both raced to Rome not knowing the other one was going to be there. When both grandmothers reached out to their respective grandchildren asking for help, neither one could stay away when confronted with the grandmothers being a witness to a theft at a local art museum, and as it turns out each of them had family paintings not seen in 50 years in the exhibit, and they were targeted for the theft. After their one and only failure of a meeting that they only agreed to because the grandmothers were pushing for it, they are not crazy to be working together, but will do anything for their grandmothers.

Loved all the twists and turns as they navigate the history of the paintings, about their family members who painted them, and the ever growing circle of suspects. All while trying to stay alive, trying to find the missing paintings, and to keep the grandmothers safe. Loved reading about the various parts of Rome and Italy as the journey went along, and how they have come to realize that first bad impressions aren’t always the best, and how they each struggle with new conflicting emotions that neither was looking for.

Highly recommend. Barbara Freethy never fails to deliver stories that grip you right from the start and keep you guessing as to what will come next.

This is part of the Off the Grid: FBI series. While a couple of characters from the previous books do make appearances in this one, they are very brief so it can be read as a standalone with no issues.

Nick and Isabella previously met on a date set up by their grandmothers. It didn’t go well. Now, the pair are reunited when artwork tied to their families is stolen from an exhibit. They work together to not only solve the mystery, but to keep their grandmothers safe.

This wasn’t one of my favorites of the series. Normally the books in this series grab my attention at the beginning and hold it to the end, but that wasn’t the case here. It felt like it dragged on a little too long in some spots. Also, the amazing chemistry that usually exists between the main characters is missing here. By the end, I was more interested in what was going on with the art theft than the relationship between Nick and Isabella.

I still enjoyed the book, just not as much as the previous ones. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy romantic suspense, especially if they like mysteries involving art.

“Deadly Trap,” the 13th book in Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid FBI series, has everything I’ve come to expect from this favorite author:

• Great characters? Check.
• Mystery filled with twists? Check.
• Satisfying romance? Check.

Set in Rome and other parts of Italy, “Deadly Trap” had an additional nuance I didn’t expect — how do you solve a mystery and catch the bad guys when you don’t have access to all your FBI whistles and bells?

I enjoyed how this bit of isolation forced Nick and Isabella to work closer together. To be sure, Nick did have help from his FBI colleagues back in California, whether doing a little research or helping Nick’s and Isabella’s grandmothers, but it was research and knowledge from our hero and heroine that solved the case.

Thanks to their grandmothers, Nick and Isabella have a slight — very slight — bit of history. As they rely on each other and search together for answers, they both discover they may have more in common than simply deep love for those same grandmothers.

The mystery in “Deadly Trap” is as intriguing as ever. This time, however, I learned a bit about art history and areas of Italy that I would love to visit.

Another thrilling story by Barbara Freethy in the FBI series! Nick, an FBI agent travels to Rome to help his grandmother after she witnesses a robbery and shooting in a gallery. Paintings by local artists that appear to have little value are stolen and the guard seriously injured. After his grandfather died a friend of his grandmother has moved in with her. Her friend’s granddaughter, Isabella and Nick had a horrible date a few years ago when the grandmothers attempted to match them up. The two need to work together to find out why the robbery took place when they don’t like or trust each other at all.

Nick and Isabella don’t know who to trust since it seems like the authorities might be involved and want them to stay out of the investigation. It also appears that the death of his grandfather was actually murder as well as others who died in a fire many years ago. As they search for motives for the robbery their lives are in danger.

From page to page it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Great thrilling story!

This book is a great addition to the FBI Off the Grid series! In this book we meet agent Nick Caruso, who is fresh off yet another undercover case and feeling burnt out and confused about his life. Just as his boss orders him to take a vacation to get his head on straight, his grandmother in Italy calls him shaken because she was involved in a robbery of stolen art. When Nick gets to Italy, he finds himself caught up in a huge mystery of who stole art painted by artists barely anyone knew, by people connected to his family. As Nick works to solve the mystery of today, he is brought back into the past 50 years ago with so many connections between what is happening now and then. Nick is also forced to work with Isabella, the daughter of his grandmothers best friend, and the subject of one of his worst dates ever. Yet, as they work together both are forced to examine what they initially thought about their date gone bad. This book was filled with many twists and turns, and heart pounding suspense and romance. Another amazing book by Barbara Freethy!

This is another exciting book by Ms. Freethy that takes place in Italy. Nick and Isabella’s grandmothers in Italy tried to get the two together in LA, but it wasn’t a good time for either one of them. Meeting each other again in Italy when their grandmothers are in trouble was awkward at first. The mystery that Ms. Freethy was able to lead us through kept me on my toes. I didn’t know a lot about art before reading this book, but learned a few things after reading it. I couldn’t believe how hard it was going to be to try and figure out a mystery that started 50 years ago, and Nick and Isabella had so many ups and downs as well as dead ends while they were on their adventure. There were many times in the book that were scary, and I was on the edge of my seat. It was interesting watching Nick and Isabella get to know each other. I loved how the two were able to play off each others strong points. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

Deadly Trap continues Barbara Freethy’s Off The Grid: FBI series and is a tremendous read. Every new one is my next favorite. FBI agent Nick Caruso has just come off his undercover operation. Flynn tells him to take a vacation just when his grandmother needs his help back in Italy. Paintings have been stolen that are not valuable except to his family and Isabella Rossi’s family. Or are they more valuable to someone else than they realize. Nick and Isabella try to figure it out before they become a casualty in this hunt for the paintings. Freethy writes each story so you are completely immersed in the mystery, romance and intrigue. Each time I got a chance to read a few pages, I didn’t want to put it down. I had to see what happens next. There were so many well written twists and turns to the plot. There’s always a personal aspect as well as the main story in each book. Well done Ms. Freethy. Can’t wait for the next story to be told.

Deadly Trap by Barbara Freethy. I extend thanks to the author and publisher for the Advanced Readers Copy that was gifted to me.

As a long time fan of Ms Freethy, this latest installment in the Off The Grid series did not disappoint. It was high time the elusive Nick Caruso took front and center. She took a character we've all wondered about and brought him to light perfectly. His character is obliterated matched by the lovely, smart, and sassy Isabella Rossi. No story stealers in this review but suffice it to say that the author has exceeded expectations once again.

As a big rule follower I would suggest going back to the beginning of the series to savor every fabulous moment but this book can stand alone as well.

I couldn't recommend this book more. Be ready for a great mystery, love affair, with just a little reconciliation.

Book 13 in the 'Off The Grid' series by Barbara Freethy is just so good! You'd think by the 13th book the series would be getting a bit stale. Not so! We're off to Italy to save Nick and Isabella's grandmothers!

What a wild ride for all of the characters! Why were paintings from unknown artists targeted, and paintings worth more and by very well knows artists left hanging? Who would want them and why?

This book moves along at a good pace. Nick and Isabella, have to move forward from their past prejudices against each other and now work together on the theft to find out who exactly who is with them and who is against them. Looking back on some family history as the book progresses, you're given some indication of why the unknown artists did what they did.

A fun romantic thriller with an ending I didn't anticipate.

FBI agent Nick Caruso and investigative journalist Isabella Rossi had one date several years ago . . . The first and last. It ended with Isabella angrily walking out of the restaurant and going home. They meet again when they rush to Italy when their respective grandmothers are in danger. They definitely don’t like each other, but they work together to find the art thieves who have put their grandmothers in danger.

Like all the other books in this series, this story has a lot of heart pounding twists and turns. There were so many possible suspects, that it was impossible to figure out who the thieves were until the very end.

I have really enjoyed the Off the Grid FBI series. I hope that this isn’t the end of this series.
Ms. Freethy is a master of writing romantic suspense stories.

Nick receives a call from his beloved grandmother after coming off an undercover assignment. His boss has told him to take a few days off so when he's concerned for her safety, he heads to Italy. What he doesn't expect is to see Isabella almost the minute he arrives. Isabella's grandmother and Nick's are best friends, both widowed and currently living together. The grandmothers have tried to pair the two with each other but that didn't go well. Now they need to work together to solve the mystery of some stolen art and they find they aren't as incompatible as they thought. So many twists and turns in this story as we try to unravel the story behind the art and why it was stolen. This may be book 13 in this series, but it is easily read as a standalone. Always good to catch up with people from past stories. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.

A previous encounter left both Nick and Isabella with a sour taste in their mouth. The fact that their grandmothers are best friends and live together negates their distate for each other, especially when their grandmothers are the ones in danger. Isabella is a journalist and Nick is an FBI agent. The egos get in the way in the beginning until Isabella finds herself in a deadly situation. Nick saves her life and they put their past behind them. The suspense in this book is great, Barbara keeps you waiting until the very end to figure out who dun it. The chemistry is strong between Nick and Isabella too. The book had some intersting characters and the way she wrote it kept you changing your mind on who wanted them dead. I was totally wrong!! Check it out if you love art, suspense and a little chemistry, along with lots of love from the grandmas!

In Deadly Trap Barbara Freethy takes us on a trip to Italy and we enjoyed every step of it.
To please their Grandmothers Nick and Isabella went on a date; the date ended with each hoping they would never have to see the other again.
Now their Grandmothers are in danger and Nick and Isabella will do anything to keep them safe, even work together.
All they have to do is figure out what their Great Grandparents had been doing in the past and why it was causing trouble in the present. Which side of the law had they been on?
While solving the mystery Nick and Isabella learn that when it comes to family it isn't always all about you.
I really enjoyed this book and it deserves the 5 stars.

Deadly Trap is full of twists and turns and just when you think you're on the right track, you find out that you're not. Nick Caruso and Isabelle Rossi met once, it didn't go well but they need to work together to keep their grandmothers safe and to find art which has been stolen from their families. Its a tale of romantic suspense, criminal art thieves, lies and corruption. Nick as an FBI agent and Isabelle as a journalist must use all their skills to solve this puzzle before anyone else loses their life.

As always Ms Freethy keeps you on the edge of your seat and the cast of characters try and unravel the mystery of the stolen art work as well as the mystery of the deaths of family members.

Deadly Trap is Book 12 in the FBI series written by Barbara Freethy. The stories keep on getting better and pulls the reader in to join in the next adventure. Nick is a FBI agent and Isabella is a reporter who both rush to Rome to help their grandmothers. The art museum where they work were showing art work done by family members and a robbery occurred while the grandmothers were at the museum. Nick and Isabella want to find the paintings plus make sure the grandmothers are safe from harm. The twists and turns in the story keep me guessing till the end. I really wasn’t sure who was guilty and why the paintings were stolen. I enjoyed this book. Another must read in the FBI series by Barbara Freethy.

Book 13 and we dive head first into another thrilling and suspenseful FBI thriller. Each of these stories has grabbed my attention, demanded it from the start and this next book was no different! This time set in Rome, we jump on board Nicks rollercoaster ride of danger, drama, action and a little romance as he partners with an old flame from the past, Isabella to save both their grandmothers. It’s an intriguing and fascinating story of thievery, betrayal, lies and deceit as we venture into the past to uncover the secrets of the present. A highly captivating read that had me on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns thrown our way as our duo resolve to solve the mystery and save the day.
