The New York Times bestselling author of Proud Spirit and The Eagle and the Rose teaches us how to unleash the spiritual force within us. As spiritual beings having a human experience, each of us comes into this world endowed with breathtaking gifts. We may have the power of intuition...the power to sense the invisible world around us...the power to create healing energy. All that we need is a wise teacher to turn the handle, so we can open the door to what lies within us. Rosemary Altea is that teacher. She has guided thousands of students in their quest for self-empowerment. Now she shows all of us how to unblock and develop our gifts through simple, effective, and proven exercises. We learn how to release stress and find peace, locate our energy and build it up, and tune in to our sixth sense. But this groundbreaking work of self-empowerment is more than a how-to woven into its fabric are miraculous stories of the spirit world, including the author's coversations with those who have departed this sphere. And it contains the wisest lesson of before we can communicate with the invisible forces around us, we must first learn to communicate with ourselves.
HER THIRD BOOK, PROFESSING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO ‘OPEN THE DOOR’…
Rosemary Altea (born Rosemary Edwards) is a British author and medium. She wrote in the Preface of this 2000 book, “Did it ever occur to you in those moments when you wish your loved ones in spirit could communicate with you in some small way, that you have to be home, and ready to receive your visitors? Did it every occur to you that it is you who must oil the locks, turn the key, open the door, and let them in?... I can show you how to oil the locks, to turn the key, to open the door… as you become more attentive to the needs and wants of the spirit world, you will discover that you are ‘at home today’ and every day, and that ‘home’ is a very good place to be.”
She recounts, “I have been working as a spiritual medium and healer for more than nineteen years, and run a healing organization in England. Over the last two decades I have had hundreds of students pass through my hands, and without exception, their initial reason for seeking me out as their teacher was a direct result of a life-changing trauma---either an emotional or a physical injury severe enough to arrest, or change, what used to be ‘normal’ thinking. The loss of a loved one. The loss of a child. The breakdown of a marriage… These are just a few of life’s tragedies that will stop us in our tracks and force us to ask the question ‘What is life all about?’” (Pg. 15-16)
She explains, “Now I must tell you, and this might sound like the greatest excuse in the world, but I have often found it impossible to meditate in the usual way. I love the relaxation exercise, and thoroughly enjoy every moment of it, but each time I relax and close my eyes, because I am always ‘at home, there is always something to see, to hear, to feel, which distracts me from my initial purpose…” (Pg. 31)
She points out, “Nor have I experienced ectoplasm, and some of you might be wondering now, ‘What kind of expert is she?’ I don’t blame you, and thank goodness I have ever claimed to be an expert. That is the claim that others may have made about me. Although I have never actually seen ectoplasm, I do believe in its existence…” (Pg. 49)
After recounting the story of a prominent medium who was shown to be a fraud, she suggest, “But that does not mean that physical mediums don’t exist. Just because we find a few rotten apples in a barrel does not mean that all apples are rotten. It does mean, however, that one might suppose the other apples are tainted. This is one reason why there are few displays of physical mediumship, as the very idea of interacting with the spirit world has become suspect.” (Pg. 51)
While discussing character traits, she admits, “I am very definitely selfish. But instead of just saying yes, I’m selfish, I should examine the various ways in which I am. And is this really a bad trait? Of course it is, but sometimes I feel that it is really necessary to be selfish. Surely as long as I am not selfish to the point of being destructive with other people’s feelings, than isn’t that all right? I ask, and now I have to do a little soul-searching, which is what this exercise is all about.” (Pg. 106)
She asserts, “When I have debated the issue of life after death, and have talked with the spirit world about life here on this earth, it has sometimes been said that those in the spirit world are often more alive, more vibrant than those of us so-called living, and that some of us on this earth plane are more ‘dead’ than those who are in spirit. How? Why would this be? I have asked, and the answer is simple. Energy. Those in the spirit world have it and use it. They know how. And those of us on this earth plane have it, and have little or no idea how to use it.” (Pg. 122)
She explains, “I am not an advocate of the so-called New Age, but more an advocate of the ‘Old Age,’ the age of wisdom, of knowledge, timeless, forever and always, of the beginnings of time, and before time as we know it. I am an advocate of … learning from the past… looking forward to the future and what it might teach us. I believe that it is necessary to question, to want, to be selfish, to gain, but not at someone else’s expense. Not if it means deliberately causing pain and hurt to someone else… It is so important that we learn to appreciate, to savor life, but not ever, ever, if it means ruining, without thought or compassion, the life of another human being.” (Pg. 227-228)
After recounting how she initially distrusted a neighbor, but later “I was now willing to call her my very best friend… I have told this … to illustrate how easy it is, even for someone like me, to ignore our knowing, to brush aside what our sixth sense tells us is right. I know that there are exceptions to all rules, but in the main, when we refuse to listen to our instincts, we do so at a heavy cost.” (Pg. 280)
She tells how that after appearing before a group of people who had lost their children, “I began, as always, by explaining that I could only do my best, that I was not God, and did not have the power or the authority to determine how things would go. All there present nodded their understanding… still praying that I would succeed in connecting with their children. For one or two, I did not succeed, not because their children were not there, but because I am a human being, with only so much energy and only so much time to give, and we simply ran out of time. But for the majority, I did succeed, and there were many wonderful and emotional reunions, as sons and daughters gave real evidence of their survival after death.” (Pg. 290)
In the closing chapter, she states, “Death is not a punishment. But when we hear of terrible tragedies, it surely feels as if it is, and for those of us who live our lives without our loved ones around us, it certainly seems that God is a cruel and punishing deity Mass murders, genocide, the annihilation of races, it is so easy to blame God, to ask accusingly, why di He let these things happen? So much easier than taking responsibility for the way we have allowed ourselves to become… Over the years, from time to time, I have given this a great deal of thought, this majesty of life, of God and the universe. I have questioned God’s motives, tried to reason and understand the intricate and amazing workings of His plan, but as yet I am still trying to figure it out. Each time I think I am coming close to some small understanding, something happens that makes me aware of my own limited human concepts, and at the same time makes me realize how much more power I own than I previously believed I had.” (Pg. 300)
This book will be of interest to those seeking mediums, and channeled teachings.
This was a good read although I felt like most of the knowledge in the book wasn’t necessarily new to me. Altea weaves a perfect mix of personal stories, information, and exercises to set you on the journey of learning your true self and your power. There were definitely still pieces of useful exercises and information for me, but this would be a powerful book for someone just starting on their inward journey.
This is a great book. Ive read most of her books I liked it for the stories which only makes up about 50% of the book the other half being lessons in meditation creative visualization sensitivity etc all designed to awaken your spirit and perhaps even become a medium. I didn't really practice the lessons probably not quite up to that yet but I still found the book interesting and even uplifting. Recommended if you like her work.
No one has commented on this book although ratings are fairly good. Increasing self-awareness is good, but most exercises are lengthy and, of course, contemplative. It is difficult for me to contemplate when repeatedly having to read or review each step.
Mostly a how to book, but reminded me a lot of meditation instructions in some areas. The visualize is a hard one for me, I don't do that. Some of us don't, and other options were not offered.
