I read the book Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 For Dummies by Dan Gookin which is an excellent book which I bought from kindle. There is a separate post on the standard 7 inch Galaxy Tab on my site at http://scratbagroberts.com. This post is about the newer larger model. It comes in 2 versions the wi-fi that uses your wireless network for data transference & the online version that allows direct telecommunication. If you buy the version with an online version it needs to be set up which will often be done by an agent in the shop but unfortunately you are robbed of the opportunity to open it. You can use skype with the wi-fi version to make telephone calls via your wireless network. It doesn't have an internet radio app built into it but there is plenty of free apps like pandora radio. It has a capacitative screen that you can't touch with a pointer as it won't register and you must use your finger. It uses android as its operating system. This version of android can be updated and you will often have to download security patches which is semi automatic. You can use a blue tooth keyboard or practically any blue tooth device with it for that matter of fact. Some people prefer a proper keyboard to the virtual one supplied. It has many common features shared with other tablets like if you pinch your fingers on the screen it reduces it, if you do the opposite it increases magnification. It has a swipe feature where you can select whole words in one finger stroke on the virtual keyboard.
I generally do my quick and brief reviews on Goodreads using either my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone (formerly 3) or Tab 4 so I'm an advanced user who didn't benefit from reading this book but it wasn't from lack of trying or lack of content from the author. A novice user would find this book a great help.
I've had a tablet for almost a year and it works great and has decent battery life. I use my tablet to mostly build and watch my Disney DVD library, social betwork, read comic books, and surf. The Galaxy Tab is a great tool and a cheaper and subjectively better alternative to the iPad.
