Rogue storm chaser, Remy Tate learned the hard way, nature is a beast. She’s dedicated her life to chasing storms and saving as many lives as possible in the process. Her fast—paced job doesn’t leave much room for anything other than hopefully sleep and making it to the next storm in time. Sarah Phillips started out on the safe side as a meteorologist, but a chance encounter with Remy has her yearning for something far more exciting. She not only falls for Remy’s same career, but falls into bed with her much to her chagrin. For the last eight years, she remembers that night if only to keep from repeating the same mistake. The only thing more unpredictable than a tornado is love and the two women soon realize that outrunning the perfect storm is a lot easier than outrunning love.
Syd Parker was born in 1975 in California and now lives in Indiana with her partner. Syd loves to reminisce about growing up the oldest of seven kids. There were plenty of shenanigans with that many kids, many of which have ended up in Syd's novels. In school, Syd loved all things English, but put dreams of writing aside to concentrate on her studies. She set off for college with the goal of being a nurse, but ultimately opted for a much more sexy and debonair day job in financing. Not picking up a pen again until she was thirty-four, Syd hit the ground running, penning six novels in three years. She has finally realized her lifelong dream of being an author and telling her stories to the masses.
Having long realized her dream of playing pro golf will probably not happen with a wicked slice, Syd spends her free time three-putting on the golf course, riding her road bike Hammer or training to be a professional runner. The moments in between are sprinkled with a gaggle of nieces and nephews that she adores and spoils all the time. She fancies herself a down home gourmet chef and has an unnatural addiction to Doritos. She loves to read a good love story and thoroughly enjoys writing them as well. "It isn't just about writing a story, it's about creating a world and having the reader climb into it, experiencing it in first person. That's my goal...that's why I write." (from the author's website)
Of the books i've read by this author, this one is my favorite. First and foremost, IT'S ABOUT TIME we see a protagonist that admits what she wants without having to be wishy washy, in denial and fighting her feelings. It was almost a shock to me, after having read book after book from other authors with the same formula of having to force the two together through intervention from friends and family. And spend the whole book watching the painful back and forth of bad communication, drama, and angst.
In this book, the wonderful, possibly best character written ever, Remy the storm chaser, knows what she wants and actually communicates her feelings to the woman she loves. And THANK YOU SYD, for making a character that is smart enough to know that the object of her love clearly loves her too despite what she says. Don't you hate it in books when you and the other characters see the obvious but the protagonist is maddeningly dumb?
So, this book is a wonderful romance, but refreshingly off formula, and extremely well written. I wasn't bored at all during any point of the book, even though i could care less about tornadoes. Her writing style is so pleasing and flows so well, that she could probably make just about anything a pleasure to read.
It's just a personal thing, but I do like to learn something from every book I read, no matter how small a detail, and in this book it was about storm chasers. Those intrepid set of people that chase across the US in search of tornadoes, trying to give the earliest possible warning of towns and cities in their path. Add to that, two love stories and hot sex, all wrapped up in a story that's very well written, and you should be on to a winner. I hope that Ms Parker is, because it's great entertainment!
Books like these are why Goodreads need half stars. I liked this book for the back story of storm chasers. I liked the two main characters and their side-kicks but I had a hard time loving them. The book is well written but not particularly deep. The main character's back stories just get mentioned as were past loves who left. However, Remy and Sarah have chemistry which can't be denied even after 8 years. Definitely hot sex and angst make it worth reading for me. Looking forward to another by the author.
I don't know anything about storm chasing or tornadoes or whatever but makes it awkward a great romance and chemistry then you have all of my attention. There's not a lot of action in the book but it's great read and I will recommend it to anyone.
Syd Parker is so underrated, and I can not wait for the day she gets the recognition she deserves because she is one hell of a writer! .
Storm chaser Remy Tate is dedicated to her job. She lives, eats and breathes all things storm related. Her sole purpose is to try to devise a way to get the storm warnings out earlier and to try and save as many lives as possible. Remy has no time for anything else, not even love.
Sarah Phillips started her career as a meteorologist. But after meeting Remy eight years earlier, she decided on a career change to storm chaser. Sarah’s encounter with Remy was more than just work related, she ended up in Remy’s bed, having the best sex of her entire life. Eight years later she is still thinking about it. Remy and Sarah both have pleasant memories of that one night of hot sex. Remy would like a repeat performance, but Sarah will never make the same mistake again of a one night stand with Remy.
Will Remy realize there is more to life than one night stands and storm chasing? Will Remy persuade Sarah to give love a chance? Will Sarah relent and allow Remy in to her heart?
I love this book. I think it is an exciting, well written and researched story involving violent tornadoes, storm chasers and has a hot romance at it’s heart, so hot it is sizzling. Right from the first page, I was hooked right in. It is a page turner from start to finish and a book I was sorry to reach the end of. I read this book in practically one sitting, I couldn’t put it down.
The story has the two main characters, Remy and Sarah, I couldn’t help myself hoping they would finally see sense and get together. Also there is Sarah’s cousin and her storm chasing partner, Parker. Plus Remy’s storm chasing partner, Carmen. The interaction between all the characters is brilliant. The humor throughout is of the laugh out loud sort. Which in turn tones down the seriousness of the actual story for those who are faint hearted, but does not, for one minute, take away the importance of the situations and the story being told.
Syd Parker is a fairly new author. Each book she publishes shows her growth as a writer. One of the things I really love about Syd’s books is that the stories are always so varied and different in content and are centered around a romance.
It is my honest opinion that Syd Parker is heading down the path to becoming a big name in lesfic writing.
This particular book would make a brilliant TV drama or even a film. It has the excitement, story and scenery to hold an audience. Think Twister, think Twist of Fate. Both entirely different stories but the excitement is the same ‘edge of the seat’ sort.
Well done Syd, this is another for my growing collection of books to re-read. I can’t wait for your next book now!
Sometimes it is the secondary characters (cousin and friend) that help the story along. I very much enjoyed these two and their "assistance" in supporting and encouraging Sarah and Remy. Nice read with laugh out loud humor. Because of where I reside, tornadoes are a part of my life. Every tornado season, people in this area are on high alert and prepared to take cover as needed. We are thankful for storm chasers and the risks they take to help others and save lives.
I really enjoyed this one! Working in property claims in Missouri and personally having to witness the loss and devastation that comes from these storms really meant a lot. This was super well done and as usual with Syd Parker's books, I was completely enamored with all of the characters. Syd you have a reader for life!
Just finished Syd's newest book 'Twist of Fate". Way to go Syd loved it. As someone who has been there after a storm you captured the emotions and atmosphere perfect.
