What a ride! Steven L. Shrewsbury packs a lot of depth and action into a short story. Gorias La Gaul struggles with finding closure and meeting his final obligation to his father then faces off with a god whom he has to battle. Amazing! Looking for a fast, high-quality read? You found it. Insurmountable

Some good brutality in this one. Anyone who enjoyed Thrall should enjoy this story as it's another Gorias La Gaul adventure.

One heck of a story!

I read 'Author and Finisher of Our Flesh' before this story, and assumed it was the first in the series (which may yet be true). This story, however, takes place at an earlier time and is an excellent, excellent character study. Gorias La Gaul's efforts to do right by his deceased father show many facets of his character: the brutally skilled warrior; the introspective and dutiful (if not entirely willingly so) son; a man altogether flawed yet sympathetic, ruthless and clever, cruel and yet, after a twisted fashion, kind. If you're looking for a solid, visceral hack-and-slash story, you've just found it.
