They are known by many names, from Gods and Immortals to Demons and Vampires. They are whispers in the shadows, myths, and legends. They have existed alongside mankind for thousands of years, always in hiding, always feeding. They are are the top of the food chain and humanity is their only prey.
Alone and outnumbered a small group of men and women stand their ground, fighting to drive back the darkness anyway they can. They are our first, last, and only line of defense against monsters that know no fear. They are the Vampire Hunters.
Jake Bishop is a normal, easy going kid that spends his summer days playing with his action figures and watching cartoons. The biggest, Earth shattering problem is his life are his parent's nonstop arguments over money. That all changes one hot summer night, when a demon from his father's past comes crashing back into his life. Jake is plunged into a surreal, terrifying world beyond his worst nightmares. Jake is nearly killed, his mother kidnapped, sending his father into a mad quest for revenge. Jake learns two truths, vampires exist and the Bishops have been hunting them for hundreds of years. And they are VERY good at what they do.
Vampires come in two flavours now and neither of them sparkle. Dustin Palmer has created a fresh vampire tale in a world full of ubiquitous stories of the Nosferatu kind. What he has managed to do here is create an action packed, emotion filled story that grabs the reader from the first page and holds them until the very last word.
John Bishop is a man who deeply loves his wife and son and is trying to get along living his life on a day to day basis. He wants to leave his past behind; a past that involved hunting down and slaughtering vampires. The money was great, but the hazards were costly. And the the inevitable happens; his wife is kidnapped and John sets out on a quest to find her, leaving his son Jake with his father. Jake then discovers who he really is, where he comes from and learns that monsters really do exist. Sometimes they look like family members.
I enjoyed this book so much I ended up reading this in one sitting. Could not put this down. Devoured it and wanted more.....looking for the sequel......
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review
This is a book about vampires, but the author took a different track writing it. This book/story is more concerned about the people killing the vampires than the vampires themselves. The characters are well written and defined, their pain and actions are well documented, the resolutions to the situations they are placed in is believable, and the little plot twists fit into the general story without fault
