Caspian used to dream of adventures at sea, but the balance of power has shifted. Blacktip has stolen the magical ship that Jack has hunted for years, but his plan is far from complete. Captain Jack and his crew set out to gather more allies, hoping to defeat Blacktip. But with Ace’s betrayal still heavy in their hearts, the crew is losing themselves. The changing of seasons brings dangerous waters not fit for untested sailors, but the Chained Maiden is losing time. Every moment brings Blacktip closer to a treacherous end, and Jack is eager to end this feud with his former Captain. Jack has put his crew in dangerous situations before, but the coming battle will test their will, their hearts, and their kinship. Ace may have chosen the wrong side, and his decision will impact the fates of both crews. A pirate adventure story/queer romance and the final, heartbreaking chapter in the Keelhaul Jack Series.

First off, thank you to Brittney for giving me an arc in exchange for an honest review.
I had a really great time back in this world and with these characters! It took me a little bit of time to get back into the story. However, once the action started happening, I couldn’t put this book down. I enjoyed hearing from the multiple POVs in this book. I love the found family aspect of the story and all of the pirate adventure and action. I also really enjoyed, even if they were sometimes painful, the plot twists that occurred in this book. I love pirate stories and this definitely did not disappoint me.
The only reason that I docked a star from my rating is that I had a slight issue with the structure of some of the chapters. I found a couple of instances where I didn’t realize at first that I was reading flashbacks/backstory included in a chapter. Those occurrences took me out of the story a little bit, and I had to reorient myself although I recognize that those moments were necessary and brought something to the overall plot. I kind of wish those moments were maybe their own chapters…I’m not sure if that would’ve helped or not. Other than that, I think this was a great read overall. I look forward to more in this world and with these characters!
Another great adventure on land & sea! This is book 2 in the series and with it being a few years since reading book 1, I appreciated that the author brought in some reminders in a clever way having them be from a different character’s point of view. The story is of pirates though I’d argue some don’t fit the typical harsh pirate mold as well as others do. The relationships are my favorite part of her writing. Characters find more of themselves as they connect with others. The camaraderie of the crew and those they assist along with just a sprinkle of love make them all feel real. Recommend this series as well as the 4 books in her Blackbourne series!
I have read all of Britt’s published books, and was fortunate enough to be chosen to receive an ARC of this newest novel to read and review. Once again, the character development is top notch and propels the story along. It is important to have read the first novel in the series to understand the motives of the characters. This book has each chapter as one of the characters POV and for a story like this it works well. This picks up shortly after the events in the first book and propels us forward. I look forward to more works from this author as she continues to put out more works.
