The Mystery of the Dinosaur Discovery

When Scott, Jack and Emily stumble upon some bones in the quarry above Castle Key, they're convinced they've discovered the gruesome remains of a murder victim!

My daughter laughed a lot when the doberman pinchers played with Drift. That was comic relief. Also funny how each time they think it is someone it actually isn’t. Like when they thought it was Margaret Atherton, but then they thought it was the wooly mammoth Ivan. It was just funny when Liam Kerrow ran into the crowd of protestors with the No to Raven banners. Huge rolling laughs from my daughter. Somehow this series is right up her alley.

I found one of the books from this series in a charity shop (The Mystery of the Smugglers' Wreck) so I bought it for my 10 year-old son to read. He enjoyed it so I sought out the other books in the series from the library - this was the only one that was in the catalogue at the time.
Anyway, we decided to read this one together as I knew it would be the sort of thing we would both enjoy and thankfully I was right. Although it was still modern enough to have relatable references for him, it was still old school enough to feel like a classic sort of children's book - like an updated Famous Five or something along those lines. It wasn't trying to be super cool like some modern children's authors (I wont name names - I've done that enough times when reviewing books I've read with my son), it was just a good yarn with excitement and a wee touch of peril. My boy especially liked the friendship between Drift, Rambo and Tyson!

The third in the series that I have written. Enjoyable - kids will definitely like this book. If you are of a young earth perspective, you will probably want to discuss some concepts such as radiometric dating (and assumptions involved in this) with your children.

There were a couple of phrases and insinuations that made me uneasy in allowing my 6 year old to read this book. For example, "Like when King Mark of Cornwall wanted to murder Tristan because he'd been getting a bit up close and personal with his wife, Iseult." I really don't want to open her mind to this possibility just yet. I imagine it will probably go over her head at this stage. There is also a little bit of silly boy girl crush kind of stuff in here.

A good read, but very assumption and quick to jump on the person x must have committed the crime, without any real back up to their accusations.
