Understanding Prophetic People: Blessings and Problems with the Prophetic Gift

Rate this book
Prophecy is cherished by many as one of the fivefold ministry gifts described in Ephesians 4:11 and foundational to the life of the church. Yet prophetically gifted people have a reputation of being different and difficult to live and work with. Understanding Prophetic People, written by a prophetic pastor who grew up as the son of a prophetic pastor and leader, helps readers better understand, relate to, and even minister to prophetically gifted people.

R. Loren Sandford answers fascinating questions such as, What is it like to grow up as a prophetically gifted person? What is the difference between adrenaline and anointing? Who validates authentic prophetic ministry? How does a pastor rightly relate to a prophet? This rich resource seeks deeper understanding and wisdom on issues of foundational importance for prophetic people and everyone who loves God's gifts.

4.5/5

Läxa lärd igen: Don’t judge a book by its cover. För jag tyckte omslaget, titeln, texten på baksidan va sus och nästan lite red flag. Men jag hade fått den rekommenderad så läste ändå och det är jag glad att jag gjorde för det var good stuff.

Some good points

I read this book never hearing about the author or understanding what the book was about. There is some very sound advise in this book which affirmed a lot of what I believed to be correct. However if one office is isolated from the other 5 then there can appear an unbalanced perspective.

I felt at the beginning rather than focusing on character traits of rejection etc the author should of focused on the Christ character in us. I feel like the book validates people's ungodly handling of the character they have rather than steering people to the new character. Sadly there are too many justifying their behavior by their calling rather than developing the character required for the calling.

One of the best books on prophetic people

I have read quite a number of books on the prophetic, many good and many downright horrible. I have to honestly say that this book is one of the best, if not the best I have read so far. It answered many questions I didn't even know I had. It clarified many things about me. Many painful but loving truths. I never craved the prophetic, nor would I ever recommend it to anyone. IF you think the prophetic is where God called you or you have to put up with a prophetic person, read this book before you read any other. We need more men like R Loren Sanford to help purify the prophetic and lead the way. He is a true humble pioneer.

Deeply Moving

I was moved to tears as I read this book. It was a gift and it was as I read it I understood why I had been given it. I do not consider myself a prophet, but this book opened my eyes to see that I am prophetic. It also explained my experiences.
This is a good read for all Christians, leaders and lay as it will help people to either understand self or others. The author is honest. Thus, making the book practical and yet deeply reflective.

More balanced than I expected. The writing style isn't generally what I enjoy, but I appreciated his experience and insight in the gift of prophet. For all the crap that's out there in terms of "the prophetic," "prophecy," and "prophetic gifting," I appreciate his more balanced contribution to the discussion.

Help! I'm Prophetic.😁

I would highly recommend this to older and young prophetic believers, as well as those Pastoring them. Gives clear understanding by Scripture as well as personal experience of the process by which God develops HIS Prophets.

This was very disappointing in that the author seems to think that all prophets are as emotionally confused, depressed, lonely, and "weird" as he is. How sad and discouraging. I know a true prophet who is normal, has loving relationships, is happy, helpful to everyone, and is wonderfully gifted.

I found this to actually be a helpful guide to the gift of prophecy. I think it also did a great job or pointing out many common misperceptions about prophetic giftings in the church.

Very eye-opening revealing book. Interesting to know I wasn't alone in things I've experienced in life. And finding a book with clear cut answers between right and wrong couldn't be any better than the Ten Commandments themselves. A great read by Sandford, I look toward to reading more from this author and his father.

Disappointing. He really doesn't go very in-depth. I don't think I learned anything new here.
